Layered windows and Windows Vista
by Guest MueMeister- 0 replies

Hi there. Does anybody of you know about problems in Vista when using a layered window while video overlay is in action. I have an application where I play video with video overlay (like WMP). Now, when I use layered windows on top of that application UI everything starts flickering really bad. The problem seems to be gone when using modes like DXVA or video for windows. Is there a way to avoid this (flags, etc) ? Or is this default behavior in windows vista ? TIA Mue P.S. Another address for me where I should post this question ?

easy way to switch *default input language*?
by Guest dspame@yahoo.com- 0 replies

My German girlfriend and I want an easy way to switch between German and English as the *default input language*, as you do with more hassle from the control panel "text services and input languages" menu. The language bar switchis easy but only affects the current window. I need something similar on the desktop to set the default for all future windows I open. There must be a way to do this using VB script and perhaps toggling a registry switch. Does anyone know how?

Vista cannot see volumes on my firewire drive
by Guest GaryM- 0 replies

I have a new Vista install and I want to access files on a IDE drive in an external IEEE 1394 Icy Box caddy. Vista recognises the drive in device manager but no drive appears in Computer. When I rescan the drive from device manager I get an error message saying the volume information cannot be read. If I plug the caddy into my XP laptop, the drives load and I can access the files fine. I have loaded the drivers supplied with my motherboard. The IEEE 1394 interface sees my DV camcorder. Any ideas? Thanks

Just having critical stop sound after/during loading Windows after SOME boot ups. Some boot-ups, because it usually does not occur. It sometimes occur. Why?

i have a box running WinXp pro sp2. each time i try to shut the system down, i get a message saying that windows will install important updates before shutdown, then i get a screen looking like the logging off screen but with a progress message like installing update 1 out of 3.. installing update 2 out of 3.. installing update 3 out of 3.. and it's always 3 updates, what's even more weird is that i get this for all users regardless of the privileges each has. my Norton antivirus detects nothing. is this a normal behavior ?

Disk group has no valid configuration copies
by Guest George Volis- 0 replies

I realise that this is aServer 2003 forum, whereas my problem is with a Windows 2000 Server, but it may be related. My server is Dell poweredge 2400 with a PERC 2/si Raid controller. I have for raid 1 containers (mirrored) which are all ok. On a restart of the system, two of my " dynamic sets" have come up with offline. When I try and reactivate the disks the message reads "Internal Error: Disk group has no valid configuration copies" I have used various file utilities like file scavenger and can see the contents of those drives. Is there a way to reconstruct disk configuration of those dynamic disks. Any assistance would be grateful Regards,

IE7 security updates
by Guest Lane- 0 replies

After installing the 2 recomended security updates that come up after the reboot from installing IE7 I get a blank page and any action results in a save download to file instead of opening the page. I have gone as far as to uninstall ie7 and ie6 and reinstall. Last time I checked every step of the way and it occurs right after installing the 2 updates for ie7 after ie7 is installed. Note they are not re downloading but just reinstalling. System is XP Pro.
