On a Windows XP Pro with SP2 on a 3.2 GHz Dell Dimension 9100 with hyperthreading and 3 GB RAM: I just replaced the original system disk, which was having permanent disk errors, with a larger disk using Seagate's cloning utility. The system works perfectly except for one thing: I cannot use the backup utility (ntbackup) if volume shadow copy is not disabled (and it cannot be disabled for system state backups). What happens if volume shadow copy is not disabled is that I get a blue screen error BAD_POOL_HEADER, Stop code x19, parameter 1 is 20. If volume shadow copy is disabled, the backup works properly. What seems creepy about this error is that…

Hello All, Every Time I try to create a VPN connection, it creates it as a dial- up connection. Not sure why this is happening, every other VPN connection I have created on different machines works fine. I go to network connections, then the Create a new connection wizard, I choose the VPN option, I choose VPN, I give it a name and an IP address, but when I hit finish it creates it as a dial up connection. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jason

I want to be able to do something absurdly simple - to highlight any numerical string anywhere on my Vista PC, right click on it to bring up a context menu including the item "Dial", to select "Dial" by left clicking on it and find that I am being connected to that telephone number. I feel it must be dead easy to set Vista up to do that but seem to be too dim to figure it out - please help. (I have the facility to do that from within AZZ Cardfile 4 beta-C, but would like to be able to do it from anywhere.)

All of a sudden my pc won't recognize a blank cd or dvd, yet it will recognize a software cd or any that I've already recorded on. Light will blink as if it's trying to read it, then quits. My pc actually read a blank cd today and let me burn photos on it, first time in a month, put another cd in, and nothing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled cd drive, I've done everything listed on Troubleshooting Reading CD discs. I recovered my pc, but not to factory condition, just to point of uninstalling all non-factory-installed software programs. I've also tried different brands and speeds of the cds with no luck. Any suggestions?

I am Swedish and I have a Swedish keyboard (purchased in Sweden that is). Recently I accidentally hit some key combination and I can't change it back. It was not alt+shift, I've tried that. The problem is that instead of getting one ( ´ ) I get two at the same time ( ´´ ), so I cannot type any character that needs an accent. Same goes for ^, ~ and ¨. Please help, thanks

Hi, Not a big deal, just a minor little annoyance: I like to have my desktop icons a little bigger than normal, so I do that by holding control and rolling the mouse wheel. But sometimes the icons are reduced again when I close my browser after having used the same technique on Web pages. Is there a way to lock in the desktop icon sizes so they don't change unless I want them to? thanx

Hello everybody. Due to a computer problem I had to reinstall Windows Vista 64 Bit Ultimate and afterwards move the Windows.old folder back into the root of my harddrive. After I moved everything back I tried to update my computer through Windows Update. It finds one update that it wants to install but stops with error 80246008. I looked into the Windows Event Protocols and found out that it throws error 2147942522. What does this error mean (I can't find any information out there in the web) and how to solve this issue? We have numerous machines running Vista and Office 2007 that receive extra password prompts when trying to view a document from an intranet web site that is in the "Trusted Sites" zone in IE. They will be prompted three times before receiving the document. Clicking 'cancel' on the authentication dialog opens the document. We have tracked the issue to several extra HTTP OPTIONS and PROPFIND requests that are being issued to the web server as the document is opening. Some of these requests are to the folder containing the document, others are to the root of the site. The web site does not support WebDAV, and does not need to. Stopping the Web Clie…

Hi All, I am using MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0 (MSXML4.DLL v4.20.9841.0) in "classic" ASP to Post a request from one IIS web site to another. The sites are located on the same server. There are times when my XMLHTTP.send() command (and sometimes other commands) fails with the error: "This method cannot be called after the send method has been called". The error is caught in the JScript code's "catch" block. I have a JS file that contains the object declaration and the code that uses it. This object/code is then used by a number of different pages and processes. The order of steps in the code are: //------------------------------------------ // Define/Declare…

I am still fighting this HP ZV8000 laptop on some networking issues. I had tried to hook it up to a router to make a simple network. I could not get the machines to talk to each other. As a test, i got rid of the router and did a simple peer to peer network using a crossover cable. On the laptop now, i can ping the other machines IP. I cannot ping the laptop from the desktop. I set them both up staic IP 192.168.1.(200,201). If i do a local loopback test on the laptop (127.0.0.1), it pings ok. If i try to ping the IP of the laptop on the laptop, it times out. Windows firewall is off. No other firewall is on the machine. As a test, i hooked a USB network card to…

I am receiving the following message with all downloads that i am attempting, Either 'A network error occured while accessing this file on the Internet' or 'Internet cannot download this file, and the connection with the server was reset' Browsing is not an issue, and my connection seems fine. I am connecting wirelessly through a netgear DG834G router/modem. Have checked firewalls and even disabled these on both Vista and Norton AV to determine whether this is an issue. If anyone is able to help this would be highly appreciated. thanks Cletus

Hi, I've just been asked to look at licensing for a client, and I have a couple of questions, that I'd like to get straight in my head, as I still find the whole licensing area complex! If the client is running 1x File/Print Server (Win 2003 standard server), 1x Exchange Server (2003), 1x Update/Web Server (Win 2003 standard server), & 1x ISA Server (2006) and they have 10 users, they need: 1) 10 Windows CALs cover all 4 servers, as long as servers are configured in "per seat" mode? 2) If they brought 10 Core CALs this would cover them for all 4 Windows Servers, and the Exchange server (as well as any SharePoint/SMS servers they might get in the fu…

I am running SBS on our network and have set up a shared calendar accessible to all users which is located in our public folder and added to Favourites on each PC. Is there any way to set appointments in the shared calendar which will send reminders to all users without having to copy to their personal calendars.

Ever since we upgraded our 2003 RIS server with SP2, which replaced RIS with Windows Deployment Server, the server randomly locks up. It stops responding to pings/network requests, and you can't terminal into it. If you go to the console, it'll let you get past the login screen, but then it sits there. You have to hard power it down and bring it back up. This happens about once every two or three days, especially after we RIS a (relatively) large number of computers. Has anyone else seen this, or have a fix for it? Thanks!
