We want to setup a user on our domain with access to our Windows Server 2003 event logs, specifically the security log. What is the minimum requried for him to access this? Does he need to RDP in as a domain admin, or is there some other way to access this log? Thanks!

I have a batch file that runs the ntbackup tool fo some of my important users. I have scheduled the task to run with the NT Authority\System account, the task runs fine and creates the backup file, but when I go to see the log file it doen't exist. I have tried adding /L:F or /L:S to the ntbackup command, but no success. The point is that if I doble click the bacth file it created the log file under the correct path: C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data It means the bacth file is fine but there is something wrong when I run the process with the system account. Certificate Authority

I just installed CA on one of our DS, I can request a certificate as a domain admin, but when I try to do it as a regular user I get an error message saying "You do not have permission to send to this recipient". I've checked the permissions and domain users have read and enroll rights. What step did I miss? Thanks.

We have a server that already has Oracle 9i installed and works fine. When attempting to install the 10G client on the same box, everything installs successfully, but when we launch SQL Plus, nothing comes up and a dr watson occurs. The sql plus for 9i works fine. Also, all other components for 10g appear to work fine. Can someone tell me if this is a compatibility issue, or just a configuration issue. Thanks in advance.

Forcing XP to acknowledge connecting devices
by Guest scs0- 0 replies

Aside from installing an OS that wasn't built by Microsoft engineers, is there a way to get a PC to recheck all of the external firewire/USB devices and connect to them if not already connected? I'm using WIndows XP Pro - SP2. I have a firewire DVD burner. If I connect it to my XP-Home system it recognizes it every time. The XP-Pro machine? Eh. Since the drive is noisy I like shutting it off, but when I turn it back on I have this crazy expectation that, you know, things will actually work. So now I have all these applications running, one of which is the one I want to use with this drive and Windows refuses to see that a drive has been attached. I don…

Audio Record Problem - SB Live! Basic (WDM)

Hi all, I hope that someone here may be able to help me resolve my recording problem. I'm using the good ol' Creative SB Live! Basic (WDM) soundcard and for the most part it's been very reliable in the past. No conflicts listed in system information. Speakers and headphones are working fine. I can play cd's, dvd's, record and playback audio directly from cd/dvd/avi/mpg files etc.. The mic and line in work, and any sound input to the mic/line input is output through the pc speakers/headphone. Problem: I can't record audio with any of my audio apps. I even tried recording using the plain old Windows Sound Recorder, but even that won't record. The driver …

A domain was recently reconfigured. Many of the machines are generating a netlogon error that says to re-establish the trust relationship. Does anyone have a link to a white paper/kb article on how to do this? (Or a simple step-by-step?) Thanks....
