Re: Safely Remove Hardware Program not working
by Guest GEE- 0 replies

My safely remove hardware icon seems to appear and disappear at will. I appreciate the information on right clicking the start button. I did that and changed it to show all the time, but it did not appear. Usually it will show up after a full restart and then just disappear sometime later. I use a thumb drive daily, so it's a pain having to go into my computer and eject the drive. -- GEE "Quaoar" wrote: > > "shaoen01" <shaoen01@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:4BC6B39E-0EBC-4FD5-9A7A-1507D07D5D0D@microsoft.com... > > When i plug in a USB such as a thumb drive or Ipod, the safely remove > > hardware should…

Net Use lpt1 not working?
by Guest talkinggoat- 0 replies

I am trying to make a net use script to add a printer that is attached to another computer. net use lpt1: \\backleft\hplaserbw /persistent:yes It says that the command completed successfully, and show up when I type net use. However, when I run the command, it doesn't show up in the printers/ faxes listing. I can add the printer manually, by right clicking on it and selecting connect, but not with net use.

I had a malware infection, and it was necessary to repair Windows files (Windows XP w/ sp2). I work for local court system, so the county tech. assistance did this for me. I own my own laptop computer with an infrared port. I use it to print my court documents on the county printer without doing a cable connect and disconnect. When at the control panel, there is an icon for "wireless link," but I am not able to open it. The device manager shows the device and tells me the item is working properly. When the laptop is in the vicinity of the printer, the printer infrared flashes to establish contact. Since there are no settings in "wireless link," I am not ab…

Dear all I don't know whether or not I should post this here or in comp.kerberos but I will do both. After successfully implementing a cross realm trust between AD and a UNIX realm, it seems that the clients that user SP1 can successfully have SSO to the UNIX machine whereas the SP2 people can't. Can anyone help me out, since I am not a Windows expert :-) The tool I use for SSO on the Windows clients is Vintella Putty 0.60 q1.129. Kind regards Miguel

Intermittent wake-up from sleep mode bug
by Guest bostonpaper- 0 replies

Vista Ultimate recently installed goes to sleep perfectly when requested but does not wake up roughly 20-30% of the time. It requires a complete re-boot. This occurred straight out of the box and has continued with new sofware and hardware added. There are rare reports that this is a known Microsoft bug to be fixed. Any confirmation from someone with inside knowledge?

Vista 64 Malware Removal Tool is Arabic version
by Guest Scoob Droolins- 0 replies

Went to run mrt.exe from the System32 dir in an English install of Vista 64, and it came up in all Arabic. This happened on two different US-based Vista 64 machines in different locations. Version is listed as 1.18.1507.0, date 9/18/2006, size 6,020,000, language Arabic (Saudi Arabia). These installs are up-to-date on Windows Update. Any idea how this version of MRT could have gotten onto these machines?

Problem to launch an application, except in Safe mode.
by Guest Daniel- 0 replies

Hi everybody. I have this application (a French dictionnary) which worked beautifully for years, until this morning. It is a "one-session only" app. Now, for some reason, when I launch it, nothing happens. If I try to launch it again, I get a *normal* message (i.e. generated by the application) indicating that this application is already being used. However, it doesn't appear in Task Manager / Application. I cannot relate this problem to anything I could have done. My system (DELL, Windows XP SP1) is very stable, maintained, and I didn't install any program lately. No virus, as far as Norton can say. No other bug I know of. I tried to reinstall the ap…

We want to setup a user on our domain with access to our Windows Server 2003 event logs, specifically the security log. What is the minimum requried for him to access this? Does he need to RDP in as a domain admin, or is there some other way to access this log? Thanks!
