For some reason I am having a lot of difficult moving icons on my desktop. For example, if I wish to drag a shortcut into a folder on my desktop. I drag and I get the right arrow but when I drop it on the folder either nothing happens or I get an error message saying "The action can't be completed because the file is open in another program. Close the file and try again." Meanwhile the file is not open. I noticed that I already have an identical shortcut in the folder but instead of just asking to overwrite the existing nothing happens. Then if I try to delete the shortcut from my desktop I also get a file in use error message. Anyone encounter this?

Windows media player is starting for me after resuming from sleep. The application does not appear, it does appear in the task list running as the logged in user. The problem is that if I then start a media file (say a movie) the sound plays, but I don't get the user interface. If I kill the task, and open the media file again, it operates as normal. There is something that is starting the wmplayer.exe process. I thought it might be the task scheduler starting it via hotstart so I disabled that task scheduler item. It didn't work. I run a self-built desktop pc (asus motherboard, nvidia 8800gts graphics card, core2duo processor, 2gig ram)

Hey all, Ive got a Terminal Server running Windows Server 2003 with Office 2003 SP2 running happy as larry, but a couple of months ago, I thought Id throw the SP2 for Server 2003 at it because, you know, Service Packs are supposed to be good things. A couple of days later, the server had it's first ever freeze. All user accounts started locking up (not all at the same time, sort of like dominos falling over) and while the server would still accept incoming RDP connections, it would freeze immediately after login, so we had to restarted the server (which is a pain becuase it's hosted off site). Being it's first ever crash, I didnt think much of it, the Event …

At school we have a Novell network. All our PC files were moved from the HDD to the server. I've had problems with some of the files since then. First: the file icons have a circular arrow pattern on the lower left corner. I can't find any reference to that kind of icon pattern. Second: some of the files open with a warning that they are being edited by "ME" and ask if I want to open a read only copy. If I open it and save it as a different filename, it may or may not open normally again. Today I copied one offending file to the HDD and the icon was normal and it opened normally. I discussed this with my IT and am considering copying all files back to…

Hello all, I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and need to access the WebDav feature in WebCampus CE6. When I try to create a webfolder, I receive one of two error messages. If I go through the automated feature in WebCampus, I get the error message: <%@ include file='/applicationframework/CommonHeader.jspi'> . If I try to create a web folder, I get this error message that IE could not open the website <url> as a webfolder. Would I like to see the default view instead? The tech people at my campus have tried to help and have duplicated the error, but cannot offer a solution. I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. …

I purchased an (outdated but new) Palm m515 PDA because there were available (outdated but new) keyboards for it that I could operate while on my back during all of the next 6 months. Now I found out that the driver needs Win 95/98/2000/ME or NT. My OS is Win XP sp2. Both PDA and keyboard are outdated enough that there is no longer any telephone or online support system. Is there a way to load the ThumBoard driver on my computer (and thus my PDA) with the Windows XP system? Any options that anyone knows of? -Bella, and Blessing her wheelchair Service Dog

I use a batch program to print out several hundred documents to a Canon multi-funcion copier. In this process there are both letter and legal size documents and I use the Canon software to compress the legal pages to the size of letter. This has been working now for well over a year. I installed a new Canon MFP (different model) to our environment and it apears to have corrupted something w/ the existing print drivers and I cannot get the original program to work properly. Here is why I am not completely convinced that it is an issue w/ Canon. I print to a different model copier (we also use Konica), the exact same result appears (legal is getting cut off and n…

The installation of Paperport 11 version for Vista requires the installation of MSXML4.0. Checking out this file on the Microsoft support website there is no mention of Vista, only earlier Windows versions such as 2000. What is MSXML4.0? Should I download and install MSXML4.0 in Vista? Is there more than one version of MSXML4.0? Thank you.

Hey all The Licensing Server Service will not start because of low disk space. I get the error stating that the log file could not be created and so the service will not start. How do I change the log file location at service start up? I have already cleared as much disk space on the OS drive as possible but have plenty on other drives. Thanks.

Just recently upgraded from Windows 2000 pro to Windows XP Pro, and ever since, we have intermittent problems of logging off, restarting or a shutdown once logged on. I have disabled the "switch user" option ( did not work ) The only way that we can log off is to use the switch user button and then restart the computer at the log on screen. Any help would be appreciated.

Recently I find myself unable to switch between input languages, namely English and Japanese... The language bar 'freezes' and locks the whole system to English. I can temporarily fix this behavior by uninstalling and reinstalling East Asian support then restarting, but even then, once I have closed any application that I used the Japanese IME with, the system locks to English, not even a restart will fix it. I am using XP SP2 with all recent updates Does anyone have an idea what would be causing this?

I cannot login to my server at work. When using XP i did not have this issue. After entering the address to reach my employer's secure server I am first met with a window that states I "do not have the proper privileges to install this application". I click "ok" and at the bottom of the page that has opened I click "continue" which allows me to go to the SecurePage though it states that I will be doing so with "limited accessiblity" However, once on the page it says that me access is "unrestricted". Next, I am able to access my Outlook emails to both send and received. But, I am not allowed to connect to my work computer's desktop remotely. When attempti…
