Profiles not migrating to new server
by Guest Innovations- 0 replies
I am trying to shut down a company's orignal server (001) and move to a new server (002). I have gone into group policies and changed all the folder redirection policies and I have changed their profile settings in AD to send their profiles to the new server. As best I can tell everything is telling them to save their My Docuemnts, etc. to 002 but looking at the file updates times it is apparent that they are instead still saving to 001

USB Shuts Down on Standby

I do not want it to so that my external USB tuner can work and I can wake it with the Keyboard or mouse - both USB. I've unchecked all USB Hub options to allow power management, and anything else that might affect it. I've 2 HD's I run in it , both with SP2, one that doesn't shut off the USB ports and one that does, so it's not in the BIOS, it's the OS. Any ideas? I'm going crazy here.

Does it not exist? You're using a web interface to newsgroups so whether you can see certain newsgroups or not depends on which "portal" you are using. FYI I'm using a real NNTP newsreader with server msnews.microsoft.com For convenience I'll cross-post to Vista General. If your portal includes it you should be able to click on the newsgroup name in the hea…

Photo Gallery Skips Photos when clicking "next image"
by Guest Derek-kun- 0 replies
I am having a problem with my photogallery application. The problem isn't the order of the photos in the folder, but photogallery is actually skipping pictures all together. So even if (for IE) photo 1,2,3, and 4 are in order, the photogallery (when i click the next image button) will skip to say, 3, then 2, then 3 again. Its order isn't always the same but it's rather frustrating. Anyone know a fix for this? Perhaps it's a bug, cause google has shown a few others having the same problem.

Classic Windows Shutdown
by Guest Bob J- 0 replies

I have seen this requested on many occasion in this discussion group: If you miss the classic W Shutdown dialog box, there is a way to display it in Vista too. You can make this dialog pop-up by clicking an empty area of the desktop and then tapping ALT+F4. From this classic dialog, you can choose between various options depending on your system type, including Switch User, Log Off, Restart, Sleep, Hibernate, and Shut Down. I found this on the attached website, plus many more, some are old hat, but there are a few unknown ones, worth a visit. http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_more_tips.asp The site also has many other interesting articles. -- …

vista basic to premium problem
by Guest jack sprat- 0 replies

purchased a new laptop. it came with vista basic. purchased an upgrade license and now have vista home premium. this was done 3.5 months ago. began having problems with windows media center. would not play a dvd, said no codec was installed. then i found out that windows media player will not even launch. attempted to put the upgrade disk in and reinstall vista the way you used to do in xp (as an upgrade) on first reboot it says cannot write the XXX? that is required to finish the install and quits. had done this 5 times. is there a way to reinstall media player and windows media center without doing an entire install. another problem is my Zune software…

I cannot offer remote assistance to anyone else on my network. I've tried offering it to myself and it works just fine. I've ran ethereal and attempted to offer assistance from another computer and i can see the request sent to me and my computer sending a response right away. Thats when i get the message "The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable". Also I can telnet to port 135 just fine and windows firewall is disabled on all pc's in the domain. other notes: - The following GPO's are enabled - "computer/administrative templates/system/remote assistance" -Solicited Remote Assistance and -Offer Remote Assistance (Helpers: 'DOMAIN\…

help with LimitLogin
by Guest Computerguy- 0 replies
We have setup and configured limitlogin (or so we think), but we still have users who can login multiple times, simultaneoulsy. The IIS server was installed without error, and the same with the AD partition. We can only think the vbscript is not being read or there is some kind of resolution problem. We also noticed our users are connecting to the domain controller acting as a backup instead of the DC where we configured the limitlogin partition. Any help would be appreciated as we are trying to avoid paying for Userlock. Thanks.

Task Manager Processes Tab blank

Hi All, When I click on the Processes Tab in task manager, I only see blank page. Also the numbers under Totals, Physical Memory etc under Performance Tab disapper. Other Tabs in task manager work fine. It seems to be related to some services I am running on the machine. If I stop these services, the task manager will become normal. But what could be the underlying cause? I need to run these services on the machine. I am remotely logging to a Windows 2000 server. But I observe the same thing with Windows 2003 server. Thank you very much in advance, A

I am running Vista Business on a Sony Vaio with 100 GB hard drive and 2GB of RAM. I have tried to load the "New" 2007 version of Project Professional. When it get almost done it says that I don't have enough memory and will not let me go on. Once I make sure everything else is closed and there is enough memory, it says the files are corrupt and stopsme at that point. I try to uninstall it and that does not happen. Trying to change, does no good either. Help.

Multi-ISO boot from USB Drive
by Guest Dragon- 0 replies

Hi, I have seen several of MSDN DVDs that contain multiple OS products. Upon booting from them, you get a choice of which OS to install. We reload OS all the time on our test beds when reconfiguring testing labs for different configurations. I would to be able to do something similar but with a USB drive. I would like to copy/add several bootable ISO files onto my USB drive, then boot from the USB and get a choice to load one of the ISO images for installations. Does anyone know of any way to do this? Thanks.
