Corrupt file apparently causing multiple issues.

When uninstalling Outlook 2000 from an Office install, a notification popped up stating that the mssign32.dll file was corrupted. (I believe it was this file, I dismissed it as we have had similar issues in the past where chkdsk worked.) So I restarted the computer and CHKDSK ran, found the problem with the file, and stated that it was corrected. When I logged back into Windows and started to navigate to the Outlook 2007 location on our network, I noticed that the left side bar where common tasks are located was completely blacked out except for the task links. Then when I try to install Outlook 2007, the osetup.dll cannot be loaded. The install works fine on othe…

tray area maxed out

That's just my guess. I noticed some time last week, that my realtek, and Intel graphics media icons were missing from the tray. I use them all the time when the sound messes up, or the desktop gets too dark. This is a NEW problem since adding the wallpaper gadget. The desktop getting too dark. The boot settings for the desktop revert to original settings at every boot. And you can't remove the wallpaper gadget. No idea what that's all about. You can remove it from the sidebar, but not the gadget gallery. I've been going back and forth the past week just trying to keep them in the tray. right click task bar select properties- notification area- customize- turned b…

Antigen and Rejected Mailhosts

I am running Antigen for Exchange on a Exchange 2003 machine. My Outbound Mail Queue constantly has messages from my Postmaster that are in RETRY state trying to send NDRs (I guess) to what I assume are "spoofing" spammers. For these, the Additional Queue Information shows "the remote server did not respond to the communication request" which indicates the spam came from a spoofed or illegitimate source, right? I have added many of these spoofing spammers, the domains and or IPs, to my Rejected Mailhost lists but I continue to see my Postmaster is trying to send NDRs to the same blocked Rejected Mailhost. It seems like if you block a domain\mailhost t…

TPM connection problem
by Guest Don- 0 replies

I am running a 32 bit Vista Business OS on a T60 Lenovo laptop. At startup I get the message as follows: There was a problem connecting to the TPM (security device) on this computer. It is possible that anti-virus or firewall software is blocking the connection. A missing or disabled device driver could also cause this problem. See the online documentation for more information. Everything seems to be in order. The chip (Atmel TPM vesion 3.0.0.15) is enabled and neither the firewall nor antivirus appear to be blocking. Any help on how to handle this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Don -- Don

Installing programs to a mapped drive
by Guest s.halihan- 0 replies

We have just begun testing Vista, and we're having difficutly getting any client / server (Time in a Box, Microsoft Dynamics SL, ect. ) software to install. It appears that the programs see Vista's mapped drives as UNC locations, and the installations fail. I've tried using the netuse command and tried running the programs as the administrator, but haven't had any success. I'm sure I'm just missing something basic, any help would be great.

BusinessWeek Online - Sometimes the best solutions to the energy crisis are the simplest, and often they're right in front of our eyes. Consider the use of solar power to light a home. Even the most advanced photovoltaic solar panels convert just 20% of the available sunlight to electricity. The resulting direct current (DC) then must undergo conversion to alternating current (AC), losing another 20%. If that AC goes on to light an incandescent bulb, which is only 5% efficient, you end up using a fraction of 1% of the original sunlight as room light. ... Link To Original Article

A thought struck me this morning: would you really want your database/application server/office productivity suite/etc. developer to also be the author of your operating system? On one level, the answer is an easy 'yes': tighter integration between the OS and the applications that run on it is a good thing. On the other side of this coin, however, is the reality that today's integration is tomorrow's barrier to entry against all other applications. Take Microsoft, for example. Microsoft has arguably done a very good job of encouraging third-party applications on its Windows platforms. But Microsoft has done less well once it starts to compete in a given appl…
