I am running a dual FX-74 system and I would like to utilize the S3 power saving feature. However , if I have medium power savings enabled (S3 enabled at 1 hour), sometimes my computer fails to recover from hibernate/standby mode. If I shut down and reboot, it damages the boot volume and then I need to use the windows recovery environment. This worked a few times. One time, I needed to completely re-install Vista. Is there a fix/update to correct this problem? I have ACPI 2.0 enabled in the bios and the S3 is set to automatic. Any suggestions?

My 3rd-party app runs a task on a Win2K server. Sometimes, this task - which is created by its parent service - suddenly dies, requiring the service to be restarted, or sometimes the server to be rebooted. How can I get information on why this task died so that I can do some kind of post mortem etc? There is nothing in the event log, so I presume the task encountered some kind of exception and died.

AVG's response - When a file is moved AVG Virus Vault, it is deleted from its original place, encoded and saved in a non-executable form to a hidden folder on your harddrive. Your PC is not infected anymore. Therefor you should not take any action, your computer is virus-free now. If you think that the files that were detected are a false positive detection please do the following: AVG suggested . . . 1. Disable Resident Shield: - Run AVG Control Center - Double-click the AVG Resident Shield plugin - Uncheck "Turn on AVG Resident Shield protection" option - Confirm changes by the OK button 2. Restore the files from Virus Vault - Open AVG Cont…

Half the time, when I press the start button, the machine freezes with a white bar stuck halfway across the screen. The two F8 & F12 titles are still showing but don't react. If I then shut down the machine by pressing the start button until it shuts down, and then restart it then works OK, although pausing at that "freezing" point for about a second. This has happened virtually from when my machine was delivered but Dell aren't interested. Any thoughts? Monty Law

Hi all, i really need an answer to this. It's killing me. I'm using a Windows Vista Ultimate edition. And recently reformatted my PC. At first, i installed all my basic drivers and softwares, and sort out the links (start menu) of all the softwares to each folder that i want. Later, when i installed my wacom tablet driver, i noticed that 'all' the start menu links to the softwares that i have installed are gone. But the softwares are still in the programes folder and the still working fine. (note: the wacom driver worked fine although this problem occurred) Although the start menu links to my installed softwares and driver are gone, the original link…

The last 2 times I received a Vista update (home premium edition) it broke my Outlook software. When I launched the program it stated "Outlook is not your default email program" even though it is set that way in Program Defaults. When I tried to send or receive mail, I received a "Not Implemented" error. I had to insert the Office Professional CD, launch Setup, and select "Repair". The program ran for about 10 minutes, then required a reboot. After that Outlook ran ok. Am I the only one having this problem? Is MS aware of this? Can or will they fix it? ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions w…

My mouse curser ran wild, moving and clicking on its own. It was not the remote Microsoft mouse. First I ran anti-virus programs, anti-spyware programs and anti-everything else programs, but the mouse still ran wild. As a last resort I went to the Microsoft beta Vista online Safety scan program and let it run. That scan found a number of issues including registry issues. After a reboot the mouse problem was gone. Sure wish I knew just what was the cause, but there you have it. Richard

Hi there, We have a storage array with a volume seen as RAW rather than NTFS. Since several days, we are working on it, with Symantec tech support and their last idea is: "From the screen shots that you sent us, looks like your volume should be in a healthy status with a file system. MSFT does have a fix that may just correct your issue. You will have to open up a support case with MSFT to obtain this patch. This will be their latest fix for mountmgr.sys on windows 2000 SP4. This fix is related to filesystem showing RAW status." We can't find the KB article related to what Symantec told us. They can't tell us where they found this article...(int…
