All of our Production servers recieved Approved updates from WSUS server last night 8/16/07 at 3:00AM, when they were scheduled for Sat. 8/18/07??? This is very strange... why would the schedules be changed? I dont see any info. on the WSUS server console that would indicate a problem? Approved updates for Servers Group set for 8/18/2007. I checked on a few of the server clients c:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log and I am seeing 'Forced install timer expired for scheduled install.' What would have forced all servers to receive updates early? 2007-08-16 02:24:27:627 1280 10e0 AU >>## RESUMED ## AU: Search for updates [CallId = {19074487-…

The 08-14-07 Auto updates apparently changed some settings in my Newwork and sharing center and I could not login until I ran diagnostic and asked for an IP address and then it immediately connected but keeps trying to find a public connection. The little circle in Vista keeps spinning but lets me connect until I restart the computer and then there is an X by the network. I am set to Private connection but it wants to make a public connecton. I have to run diagnostics each time I start the computer. So, I went to restore and restored to back to before the 08-14 updates. Had to use safe mode to get it to work and the problem is gone, but so are the 10 …

If you need to keep both optical drives, you can add a PCI IDE controller card to facilitate the expansion. but you may fnd it cheaper and more practical to buy an external USB or firewire Zip drive(plenty on ebay). Another possibility is to add a RAID controller card to handle the two hard discs and configure a RAID array(an advanced solution, but it frees up the IDE controller on the system board for your ZIP). Good luck. "Kulot" wrote: > I am trying to install an internal zip drive for backing up information on a > PC. Users folders (home folders) are owned by Administrator account, this is throwing off disk quota. This is because all the user folders where created by the Administrator account, & new users will get created by the Administrator account. There is a manual process, by using a Win2k3 server to give ownership to the users folders, but we have way too many users to do this manually. What can I do to automate this? So that current user folders & new user folders that get created are owned by the right user, not the Administrator account. Any suggestion is much appreciated. Whether it be a script or something in AD. Thanks. Jason

I've recently had a Windows Security Alert pop up on my task bar. When I click on it, it says I have no Malware protection. I have AVG Free on my system and it's always showed up before. I also have the default Windows Defender, in addition to Ad-Aware and Spybot installed. According to Windows Security Center, no antivirus software can be found on my computer and it shows Windows Defender is turned off. If I try to turn Windows Defender on, a window pops up saying it's looking for updates then it can't find any newer updates but it still never turns Windows Defender on. Something has gotten screwed up at some point and I haven't done anything to my system…

My home PC is equipped with Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz and Windows Vista Home Basic edition. I have the following problems on verifying the installation of Java 6 Update 2 by Internet Explorer (IE): (1) When the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is enabled, IE will stop working and restart. There is a pop-up message "To help security, DEP has stopped IE". I have tried to put IE and Java Platform SE Binary into "Turn On DEP for All Programs and Services Except" dialog box, but the verification still fails. (2) When DEP is disabled after applying bcdedit.exe at the command prompt, IE works smoothly and the verification passes. How to configure D…

Does anyone know how to stop unwanted Vista updates? I previously had Office 2007 trial on my PC. I uninstalled it properly using the add/remove programs feature in Windows Vista and installed Office 2003 instead. Critical updates provides me with both 2003 and 2007 Office updates. I de-select Office 2007 and install only the Office 2003. But next time critical updates load, the unwanted 2007 updates are back again. In XP when you de-select a critical update you then have a confirmation box come up that says "don't ask me about these again". You check the box and you never get bugged about the unwanted updates again. Does Vista have this feature or someth…

On the left pane under "Publish to", there are some options to export the project as a .WMV video. Here you can also choose the quality of the video etc. "Earl_G" wrote: > I made a slideshow project with MSWMM on Vista. I'm trying to run chkdsk and it seems to be working except the screen is completely blank - no progress of indicators of which keys to press, etc. which makes things rather difficult. Is there any reason why this would happen? I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit including all updates.

No. There is no way to revert ACLs. There are two possible recovery options, short of reformatting and reinstalling. The first is to use icacls on a clean system to save the ACL and then restore it on the corrupted system. The second option is to use something like Process Monitor (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/processmonitor.mspx) to figure out what file access is failing and adjusting the ACLs on those files. There may be many complaints to leverage against OneCare, but I am pretty sure none of them include corrupting ACLs. At least I have not seen it. What services are failing? --- Your question may already b…

Installed Quickbooks 2007 onto 2 laptops. I was able to make my backup CD-RW's fine on both laptops for a couple of days, then began getting the "Cannot complete CD writing wizard" error message on BOTH computers. Intuit troubleshooting says it is not their program causing the problem. I've check settings, speed, uninstalled and reinstalled the .net framework 1.1, used multiple cd's...wasted too much time! Spent more time w/compaq on the phone, waste of time. Read as many articles online as I can find but still cannot make a cd. Is there a way to make a CD without using the wizard without buying new software? One of the computers is only 6 mths old. Thanks…

When I was at work, my vista ultimate must have restarted. Now I can't get past the log-in screen. Every time I try to log in by clicking my name, I get the "Welcome" and then "Logging off". Then I noticed that there was an option to install updates. Tried that. Installed 5 updates. When I restarted, after configuring updates, I got back to the signin screen. Click my name, "Welcome" then back to "Logging off". Then I noticed AGAIN that there are updates. This time, it installed 3 updates. After all that, same "Welcome" "Logging off" sequence. AGAIN updates. 4 this time. Same results. Then 3. Same results. Then 5. Just tried again. 5 mo…

I have an HP Officejet 6100 series fax/printer. After the latest update, if I plug my memory stick into the USB port, Windows pops up another window stating it is starting the configuration routine for this other (6100) USB device. It didn't do this before when I plugged in my memory stick. Is this a problem with the update or is this now normal?

I ran the automatic security upgrades last night and when the computer restarted, it seems to be running, but all I get is a blank screen that flashes up "1: Analog Video - Can not display this mode". I tried to reboot, but the bios doesn't come up any more. What can be the cause of this? Any help is appreciated. I have an intel DG965 MB. Everything was working flawlessly before the last 10 auto upgrades that MS sent me yesterday.
