Learned from various sources including the thread I started here, "Can W2K Be Installed on SATA Drives?" Let me start with an explanation of "the Hard Way". I have a P5NSLI ASUS motherboard that supports both IDE and SATA controllers. The key word is "both". I wanted to install W2K on the STATA HD, a 320G WS SATA drive. I had some fun trying to get to a point where the OS install asked how I wanted to partition the drive. I was stumped by this window that came up in the install: ============================== 76294 MB Dis 0k on bus 0 on atapi C:NIFS(Drv1_main) 76003MB<6360MB Free D:FAT32(Drv1_extra) 290MB<237MB Free 131070MB Disk 0 at at 0? on?…

I'm not even sure where to begin with this problem. IE opens randomly and tries to load the following web page: http://www.example.net/some/place/ It fails and gives me an HTTP 404 error. Does anybody know what program might be making this happen? Any ideas on how I might find the offending program? More importantly, how do I make it stop. Thanks for any help you can give.

I have a system running XP Pro SP2 with 2 shared folders and a shared printer that the other computers in the workgroup (all XP Pro SP2) need to access. The shared folders are mapped as drives on all the other computers. We have been having a problem with the computer with the shared drives disappearing from the network along with the shared printer. If we reboot the computer it will usually reappear on the network. I have checked to see if there are any scheduled tasks that might be running that would cause the problem but there doesn't seem to be. Any help will be appreciated. TIA, Gregg

Suppose you tryed to do something but discovered you could not. You try latter and discover you can. In other words, you initially find a problem but when you try later you discover there is no problem. Situation 1 I boot partition G, which contains Wxp, and after awhile I try to run a game, which has always run before, but this time the game starts-up then the desktop appears. I try to run the game repeatedly but the results are the same. I shut-down then boot partition F where I work there for awhile. I then shut-down F and boot G. At G, I try to run the game and discover that it runs just fine. Situation 2 I boot partition H, which contains Vista…

Hi, On multiple occasions I have attempted to follow up occasional software problems using the System Information application in System Tools. Inside that is a Software Environment Tab and one item listed is Windows Error Reporting. Each time I use this the System Information application goes non-responding. Under Reliability Monitor that is always reported as msinfo32.exe having gone non-responding. In Computer Management here is the text of the error report: Log Name: Application Source: Application Hang Date: 14/08/2007 16:57:01 Event ID: 1002 Task Category: (101) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: …

I am trying to import an AAC audio file into movie maker. When I click on the Import Media options, I can get all the way to the folder where that file is located, but when I open that folder, a message displays on the screen that says "No Items Match Your Search". Do I need to convert this AAC file before trying to use it? If so, how?

I downloaded the latest security updates on Tuesday. I have two user accounts, myself, and another. Whoever logs in first gets the toolbar at the bottom of the screeen, start, icons, etc. Once the second user logs in, the toolbar at the bottom is dark blue, and I can't get to anything. When I try to log off, the screen goes blank, and takes about 5 minutes to actually log off back to the first user. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance. I just installed a new hard drive and cloned the old one. Now, while trying to stop a USB flash drive, the message pops up, "An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel file c:\winnt\system32\hotplug.dll" while using the remove icon and the same message with "hdwwiz.cpl" when using "add/remove hardware" in CP. If I just remove the flash drive, I, of course, receive the "unsafe removal" message. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I didn't like the look of Windows Vista even before I had tried it out, but now I am forced to use it at work (I am a Web Developer and work at my boss's home office, so I have done everything from install software to write code with the Windows Vista machine). I have noticed that many pieces of software, even the most recent version of some made by Microsoft (in this case, Visual Studio 2005 and certain features of SQL Server), either wouldn't install correctly or were not completely and correctly functional once they were installed. Another reason aside from software compatibility that makes me not want to upgrade my own computer to Windows Vista incl…

We have a dell server with Microsoft Small Business server, which is in real need of updating. I need to increase the hard drives within the server however in doing this I will have to format the existing data. This should be a major problem, however I need to back-up or make a report of all users, user permissions, user email addresses and any other info surrounding user account. Does anyone know of a tool that can do this? I will be making a Microsoft back-up however because I am changing the storage size I am a little worried that the back-up I make will not recover correctly, which in turn is why I need to find a tool to do all the above. Thanks

When I'm viewing a CD/DVD disk and then eject the disk tray, how do I stop Vista's Windows Explorer from closing itself? This didn't happen in XP, so why now? I'm using a HP dv6565ca Laptop with vista home premium pre-installed.

When I try to use firefox, svchost.exe makes my pc slowdown or even freezes or hangs. Firefox uses low memory but the pc hangs or freezes. This has been happening since I installed an update to my addon on firefox. When I use IE in the pc, my pc became stable even in multi-tabbing though IE uses more memory. Is Firefox or svchost.exe or some other programs responsible for this? Note: I use IE 6
