Hi, I have a 2k3 Server (std, sp2) with couple of 3rd part apps to track application usage (web, ftp, etc.). Within the application there is a file that has a hard coded username and password. The user who's username and password is being used within the app, has his account locked out when he changes his password. The developer does not recall where he might have placed his credentials (BAT, CFG, etc.). There are no services running using his account. I believe that this server sends the authentication request to run the file/app/process but eventually times out. I have checked the Event Viewer but I am not sure if this application or process has been…

I am attempting to correct the local Group Policy on a DC running Windows 2003. I am following step 2 of the following KB http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/933994 My policy is suddenly missing the entries which does not allow the network connection to come up, unfortunately group policy will not allow me to make changes while the network is down...I seem to be stuck in a loop with this one. Is there anyway I can force add the Administrators group to the correct key?

The Samsung TS-H552U Writemaster works okay when a pre-recorded DVD or CD is inserted. However when a blank disk i9s inserted it tries to read the disk and then reboots my PC. The error logs shows the following - Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 806ee753, parameter3 f183a0e8, parameter4 00000000. Looking at Control Panel - System - Device Manager shows all okay. Any ideas? Jol

The PC user is set a scomputer administrator but cannot execue any program. The message says no permission. Explorer lets me see the program on the C: drive, but it will not execute. The message is that windows cannot run. I've done a full spyware and virus check but found nothing. In Safe mode, Administrator can execute. Creating a new user with admin privileges, then reboot in normal mode, that user cannot execute any program either. What do I look for? -- Doug

I get constant lockups now after the last 2 weeks. I assume it is the driver updates. And yes it appears to be the networking updates. The only problem is that I downgraded the network driver (nforce 4 eth) to the previous version and still get the lockups. This is on Vista. I have had my windows xp home edition lock up lately. While using the machine, the mouse just freezes, and none of the keys work. Ctl-alt-del doesn't work, and I can't regain control of the machine --- so I just have to hold the off switch to kill the computer. When it restarts, I get the useful message that my machine has recovered from a serious error. I've gone into the "administrative tools" folder and looked at the error log, and what has been reported is: event ID 1003, error code 100000d1 When let the event viewer show me what this error is supposed to mean, none of the listed items seem to make any sense for my condition. I did not get a blue …

Hello. I have two computers: 32-bit xp pro and 64-bit xp pro. Both are set to share with folders, files and printer. Permissions are set properly. The 64-bit xp pro can see all the folders and files very well. The 32-bit xp pro can see the 64-bit in the network as well. I can see the shared folder but everytime I click the folder to access the files, it always ask me to log-in with password. The printer is attached to the 64-bit xp pro and is shared which I can't access too from the 32-bit xp pro. Do you think this might be because it uses 64-bit drivers. Those are my two problems: Cannot access the 64-bit xp pro files without logging in (which I do not have log-o…

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows XP Home installed on it. The laptop has died (display is completely blank, and external monitors show a blank screen), but the hard drive is okay. I bought a USB external enclosure for the hard drive, and I hooked it up to my PC. My BIOS permits me to boot from the drive, but the XP installation itself complains about the hardware and won't boot. I wanted to then try a repair installation, but the XP disc that came with the laptop works only on the laptop hardware. So I tried to do a repair install with an XP Professional disc, but that complains that the XP Home disk does not contain an XP compatible partit…

Rev. Aug. 18, 2007 I've learned a bit more about this, and it's reflected in this revision post. [start of an Aside on How This Got Started] Learned from various sources including the thread I started here, "Can W2K Be Installed on SATA Drives?" Let me start with an explanation of "the Hard Way". I have a P5NSLI ASUS motherboard that supports both IDE and SATA controllers. The key word is "both". I wanted to install W2K on the STATA HD, a 320G WS SATA drive. I had some fun trying to get to a point where the OS install asked how I wanted to partition the drive. I was stumped by this window that came up in the install: ============================== 76294…
