I have a file server that houses all our users folders (home folders.) When we get a new users, I have to logon to the file server & create a folder, setup share/security. The problem in doing that is, the file created is owned by the Admin; since that is how I am logged on. When I look at disk quota, the Admin account is shown for using up space that should be credited towards the users. I have inherited this domain & would like some ways to... 1. Set ownership up on curent & new files/folders so users own their own folders, not the admin. We have too many users to do this manually. 2. Create a policy that when a new user is created, a home folder wil…

Hi, I recently purchased and installed an upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate. Everything seems to work fine except two things: 1) My sound stopped working. I still have a sound card installed and it appears to be operating. I tried updating the driver, but it said I was already running the latest version. My soundcard is a SigmaTel High Def Audio CODEC. When I check under hardware it says there is NO AUDIO DEVICE INSTALLED. 2) I can no longer use MS Terminal Services to log into a remote server that I usually work on. I can log into new servers, but when I try to log into the server I worked on before the upgrade I get an …

Article 926031 states that Windows Server 2003 SP2 has a compatibility issue with Exchange 2003 OWA and refers to another article (841560) for a resolution to the problem. From 841560 I infer that the fix is only for SP1. Is there any update to 841560?

I have been monitoring a server with 4 G RAM, 4 CPUs, the disk: is at a 14 SAN RAID 5 disk group, I have setup the alerts, the following are some of the performance counters show in Event Log, I have some questions about them: 1) Counter: \\servername\Process(msmdsrv)\% Processor Time has tripped its alert threshold. The counter value of 792.187223329792 is over the limit value of 99. my question is: How is possible a CPU% is over 100%? Is it because there are 4 CPUs and it shows as 8 CPU instants in Windows, and number 792 means 792% when it sums up for 8 CPUs? 2) Counter: \\servername\System\Processor Queue Length has tripped its alert threshold. When I shutdown or go to Hibernate or standby it will take up to 8 minute for the machine to load and bring up Windows XP. During this time the screen remains black and nothing seems to happens, then xp will come on. This problem started about 3 weeks ago. I thought it was the video card and I bought a new card with 128 mb. Bur apparently that's not the problem.

Currently I hqave serveral users, with roaming profiles, that use the same folder as Domain Admininstartors. Now I want to take the administrator privledge away from them and still let them use the same folder. How do I set all users as "Owners" of the folder? Would I set up another Group (non-administrator group) and add the users to that? thx

From a usability standpoint a warning like DO YOU REALLY WANT TO REMOVE ....? when the checkmark is cleared in the Add/Remove Windows Components action. It is easy when adding a component to think a checked component need not be added, so the checkmark can be cleared.

When I create a folder then add a file to the folder, the group function creates its own 'group setting', ie, group by name. I then change the grouping to what I want, which is group by none. Then I add another file and the group function changes the "group setting" again, to say group by type. The file extensions can be the same or different. It does not matter, the group function changes "everytime" I add a file. Sometimes it sets the same group setting, ie. group by name, sometimes it is different, ie. group by type. Is there some way to disable this or make it QUIT changing my settings not matter what I put in the folder? Usually I have mixed fi…
