for some strange reason, I can add from administrators acct in the security tab of file/folder property everyone, administrators, some built-in acct but not other accounts, or even users, power users. what can I do to fix up this winxp pro os?

I had a Wireless Keyboard and Mouse hooked up to my old dell windows xp Dimension and the plugs on the Keyboard and mouse wireless transmitter were both PS2 type not USB. Now I have a Dell Vostro with Vista and of course it doesn't have any PS2 ports so I had this neat little adaptor which converts the PS2 keyboard & mouse plug into 1 USB plug. All is working great except for the volume up & down and mute buttons have no effect in vista at all whereas they did in XP. come to think of it no multimedia buttons (like play stop etc.) work on the keyboard now with vista. When I backed up a large number of folders to a second external hard drive, some of the Folder Settings folders were created as hidden while others were not. In the source, they were all hidden files. Is there a universal setting that can unify them all? It would take way too long to sync the whole drive (especially since both the source and the target are hard drives on USB 1 ports), and I would prefer not to have to change each one separately (they are scattered throughout about 30GB of folders and sub-folders). I don't want to leave them that way because sync and backup programs will then say the source and target folders are different when in effect that is th…

The same functions “RasSetEntryDialParams†and “RasGetEntryDialParams†work differently on XP and Vista. On Windows XP, the function “RasSetEntryDialParams†and “RasGetEntryDialParams†can be used to save the password in the dial entry and get the password later. On Vista, both functions return no error but the password is never returned. I have tried both updating SDK on XP and compile on Vista. Neither of them works. Anybody can help? Thanks.

I have a WatchGuard SSL VPN firewall, in which the VPN login's were linked using LDAP to the Windows 2000 Active Directory (AD) accounts. With this configuration, the users could login to the VPN using their Windows 2000 AD credentials. When the Windows 2000 Server was upgraded to Windows Server 2003, the AD no longer works with the WatchGuard SSL VPN using LDAP. No configurations to the WatchGuard SSL VPN firewall were changed prior to upgrading to Windows Server 2003. Windows Server Std. 2003 SP2 We have had shadow copies runniong for months now but I recently discovered they are being deleted except for a days worth. For example, when I checked this afternoon, I see a 7:00 AM and 12:00 for today and only the 12:00 from yesterday. The volume is on an iSCSI SAN and there is plenty of room. The volume has about 500 GB of data and we have allocated 100 GB for shadow copies. In the shadow copies properties on the volume it only reports 867 MB being used. Any ideas why our shadow copies history is gone and it is only keeping the previous days worth? Thanks

There is an InstallShield updater program on my new laptop (wiith Vista) that pops up spontaneously with multiple "IE Script Errors." I can't find this program in the Control Panel Uninstall. Can anybody suggest how I can remove this program?

I recently tried loading the 3d feature of maps.live.com called Virtual Earth 3d and couldn't do it. I get an error telling me to install MS .NET Framework 2.0 and try again. I tried to install Framework but couldn't do that either, getting a "Error 25007. Error occurred while initializing fusion. Setup could not load fusion with LoadLibraryShim( ). error: 0X80131700." I can also load all Office 2003 programs except Access. Could these problems be related and if so, where do I turn next?

Dear All, Sorry for chipping in, but this is my last opportunity to get help. I jus bought two new laptops (one HP, secodn Fujitsu-Siemens) with VISTA. I was unable to install my printers despite downloading drivers form the manufacturers pages. One is Kyocers FS-1010, second is Lexmark AIO X6170. I get an error message - SubSpoolingApp is something, the second is error 0x00000002. Iwas able to fix the sub sopooling thing (from microsoft tech help), but then the second error pops up. My question is: Should I stay with XP, and not bother with VISTA for anither three years? Or can anyone help me - please at least direct me towards a solution..... …
