I have 80 GB harddisk, partitioned into 4 drives of 20 GB each. I installed XP on the first drive. However after intallation was done and a couple of reboots, somehow the partitions changed. The first drive (C:) reduced to 12 GB and an unallocated space 8 GB left between C and D. Now disk Management Console has actions greyed out on this space. Any idea whats going on and whats the remedy

I used to be able to see the number of times I visited a specific website, i.e., when doing a search for "Best Western" for example (without typing in the actuall address), the search results come back and beside the one that I wanted it would show the number of times I had visited it in the past - unfortunately I made come changes via Internet Tools, but can't find where that option is to turn it back on. Can someone please assist? Thanks.

Hello, I have a new Lenovo Thinkpad T61 with Intel Turbo Boost memory. I have enabled "readydrive" and "Readyboost" in the Intel Turbo Boost memory control panel. However, when I look at the hardware settings for my hard drive, in the NV Cache Tab I get this message: "This device has 387 MB of NV (non volatile) cache and can help improve system performance. If using this disk as a Hybrid Hard Disc is enabled, the disk can provide power savings and optimize the boot and resume times of the system. The use of this disk as a Hybrid Hard Disk can be turned on or off by the group policy administrators." So, my questions are: (1) If I've turned on Readyboo…

Run Wireless repair as non-admin
by Guest ddamico- 0 replies

Does anyone know of a way to allow non-admins to select and run the Wireless repair option? Every now and then the wireless network connection drops and the only way the customer can reconnect is to restart the system. We would like them to use the repair option. The repair option is grayed out if you do not have admin rights.

unsigned driver won't install but, DID work previously
by Guest sunset_kisses- 0 replies

I am trying to install a Belkin Network Adapter on WindowsXP. I installed it on this machine before & it worked, no prob. I have since, had to reinstall XP & get ALL the windows updates, through SP2 and my Belkin install CD broke so I had to download the driver from Belkin & install from a self extracting file. When I install Belkin now, it installs the wireless utility & then asks me to plug in the wireless card. When i do this, it can't find the driver anywhere. Also, Im not sure if my SP2 installed properly... in the "add or remove" window, it shows that it is installed but lists no info about size, date last used etc. Any Help would be so…

Windows Mobile Device Center & Outlook
by Guest Bob Druzisky- 0 replies

I have an older version of Outlook (2000). When I attempt to load Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1, I receive an error that I cannot load the program unless Outlook is set as my default Mail, New, Calendar and Contacts program. I have changed the file associations for these in the control panel. When I open Outlook it says that it is not the default program and asks if I want it to be set as the default program. I repeatedly select yes, however, it does not work, as I receive the same message the next time I open Outlook. I am running Vista Basic (came with the new computer). Why would Microsoft create Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (which only ru…

Screen Saver Does Not Come On
by Guest Otto Genf- 0 replies

RE: Windows Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba Laptop The screen saver does not come on, and the hard drive always seems to be doing something, other than sitting there quietly when I'm not doing anything. Could there be something running in the background that keeps the hard drive busy and thereby not allowing the screen saver to come on? I know of MSCONFIG to see what starts up, but is there a system utility that can tell me what's up and running that may be causing the hard drive to keep working away? Thanks

asp not working
by Guest runner7@fastmail.fm- 0 replies

On a Windows Server 2003 system I am working on, asp is shown allowed in the iis snap-in. When you put an asp file in the webroot directory with the html content, however, you can view the html pages in IE but the asp page will not show up. There is some redirection going on in the system, but I am not sure how it works. Could iis be redirecting pages according to their extension rather than their directory location? Is there something else I need to do to make asp work right? Any insight as to what may be our problem would be greatly appreciated.

Problems accessing CD and DVD drives (e.g., drive not accessible)
by Guest RichardD- 0 replies

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 desktop running XP Professional. It has a CD-ROM drive (D:\\) which came with the computer; it has a Sony DVD RW (E:\\) drive which I installed a few years ago. I have never had problems with either. Today, I started having trouble with the "D" drive...when trying to access it, I get a "Not Accessible....Incorrect Function" error message. Initially, the "E" drive worked ok right after I saw the problem with the "D" drive, but then it very quickly started having problems. I could access it, but often, it would show no data on the CD or DVD I had in it ("E"). Some times, when going into My Computer, the Volume label would not show u…

MS06-034 repeatedly reoffered by Auto Update
by Guest Randy- 0 replies

I am experiencing the problem detailed in the following kb article running on XP Pro SP2.: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917537 Their brilliant "work around" is to remove the IIS Common Files. Well heck, Microsoft, maybe I have the IIS Common Files installed FOR A REASON. To see the Exchange attributes in ADU&C you must have the IIS Common Files installed. Googling about kb917537 I see many people having the issue. Anyone know of a fix besides disabling Automatic Updates or installing full blown IIS which I don't need on an XP box? I know I could disable the Web services after installing but it sure seems like overkill. thanks in advance, Ran…

error 1722
by Guest ac- 0 replies

I am having problems sending and saving statemrnts from Quickbooks Pro 2006. I will send statements via e-mail and I get a pop up that says there is an unrecoverable error and it shuts the quickbooks program down. I have contacted Quickbooks tech staff and we went thru all the scenarios and determined that Quickbooks is not the problem but it is something within a Microsoft program. I guess the Printer Spool has an error(whatever that means) and I get error code 1722. Any help would be appreciated. I am not computer savvy and do not know how to correct. I am sure it has to do with Microsoft doing updates and it has interferred with my Quickbooks program. …

How do I get "Inkball" out of the Registry?
by Guest Bill- 0 replies
I deleted Inkball sometime ago, but cannot get the Inkball references out of my registry. I've right clicked on Permissions, then tried to give full control to my user-ID, full control to Administrator (Me), and I've tried to create a new Everyone user who has full control. Everything I've done has been denied. I know this is trivial, but I would like to understand why I can't get rid of this item! Thanks, Bill

RSOP vs GPEDIT ???
by Guest JN3- 0 replies

Studying for MCSE...need help with this one. OK Local GP's applied then SDOU...got it. RSOP... Resultant set... Now if Local GPO is applied, and clearly it is, why doesn't RSOP show the effects of the Local GP? Symptom: e.g. I assing an IPSEC policy on a server locally. GPEDIT shows it's there, IpSecMon shows its there, the policy is working according to network access tests. But using RSOP...no IPSEC policies to be found. Doesn't seem to be well documented... but RSOP apparently does not show the effects of the local GPO. Why not? This would seem to be useful info in the RSOP info, no? I'm only getting domain-based GP info in my RSOP display. This i…
