Dear all, in order to save energy, I would like to be able to remotely shutdown / wake on LAN my up-to-date-patched XP Prof SP2 (Dell Optiplex 745) machine. I created a small shortcut to %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Hibernate to be able to hibernate via remote desktop, and successfully use AquilaTech's WakeOnLan to reboot. However, since sometime/some patch (cannot reproduce what exactly changed) a hibernation leads to an immediate reboot after a random amount of time (usually several minutes). I am sittinng behind several layers of firewalls in a big network (university), so wake-up-signals from "out-in-the-wild" should not be …

I have a number of XP SP2 machines to be updated via SMS. Because it is difficult to sort out which are using XML 4, 5 or 6, is it advisable to install all 3 patches in sequence, regardless of the actual configuration? What could go wrong? Thank you, /_urka

So I just got a new vista laptop and every time I shut down and restart I have to manually connect to my wireless network. I have it set to automatically connect and it looks like it's trying when it first boots up but than it doesn't connect. When I go to it, I can connect right away manually but I just don't understand why it won't connect on its own. Are there any other settings I need to play around with? Thanks

Hi, On my Windows 2000 Server SP4 file server there is no option to change the owner to other users or groups, the option box just isn't there, I can only set the owner as administratot or the user currently logged on. Also, when a user creates a new folder no owner is assigned at all so it can not inherit any permissions. Would anyone know why this is occuring? Thanks, Colin

Re: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898628/ Quote To determine which version of Windows Installer is currently installed on the computer, follow these steps: 1. In Windows Explorer, locate the following file: Msi.dll This file is located in the Windows\System 32 folder. 2. Right-click Msi.dll, and then click Properties. 3. Click the Version tab. Note the file version number. .. If the version number is 3.1.4000.1823, the computer has Windows Installer 3.1 (v1) installed. .. If the version number is 3.1.4000.2435, the computer has Windows Installer 3.1 (v2) installed. Unquote. Okay, I right-clicked Msi.dll, clicked Properties: General- Type of file…

Hi, As far as I can tell. I am only able to set up & manage email filters by accessing Live Mail through my browser and then accessing more options. I prefer using the desktop version as I can keep it running in the background and I don't have to keep opening up my browser to access/manage my email. But it doesn't have the option to set up & manage email filtering. Or at least I haven't found that option anywhere. Does anyone know if it is currently possible or if it will be added in a future version? Couldn't it be added as an extra tab on the "Email Safety Options" found under Tools?

We applied the hot fix to our Exchange 2003 server so that we can now reply to and compose emails using Vista/IE7/Outlook Web Access. However, now we find that we can't view attachments at all. Is there a patch for this one too???? We also can't edit our notes. Please advise, very frustrating for end users and making us wish we never got a Vista machine.....XP looks awesome right now.

when I right click on a folder and click "restore previous versions", the box comes up blank. it shows the tabs but not the box where all the files should be. I have tried to find something on the internet and tried a "solution". this was binding the file and sharing protocol to a network connection.

I am using a Mad-as-a-fish broadband connection, and I cannot access the internet with certain applications. I have followed the soloution on their site, and it didn't work. I recently installed Visual C# 2008 Express which requires a connection to the internet. It worked fine. Windows Update can function perfectly. However when I use Office XP (Outlook and Frontpage) to access the internet, they can't. Same for IE7. Does anyone know why this has happened, and is there a soloution?
