Please help. The listing of cookies that used to be in my temp internet folder has disappeared. Since all the cookies placed on my computer do not show up in the "cookie folder," I have used the temp internet folder to find and delete them. How can I restore the listing of cookies in the temp internet folder? Thanks, in advance.

I had an event on my XP system that just popped up a text file. If the system was not on at the appointed time then it would start when the system was started. If the text file was closed it would keep reopening every 5 minutes. (If it was already open it wouldn't open another.) I would use this as a monthly reminder. When I was done with it I would reschedule it to start next month. I've tried to do the same thing in Vista but it won't. It runs if the system is on, but doesn't start it on system-start if it was missed. Nor does it restart if I close the text file. I have it scheduled to start one time on a given date. I have the check box for start on system-…

Hi, My links on the pages I visit seem to "expire" within a day or two making it difficult for me to determine if a specific link has been visited recently. I thought there was a way to set the number of days that links showed visited before they "expired." I'm not sure what to call it. In Internet Options | General tab | Temporary Internet files and History Settings | History there is a setting for how long a site stays in History. I thought it might be in Advanced Tab as there are a bunch of check boxes, but didn't find it there either. I hope this makes sense. If someone could tell me where that setting is made I would sure appreciate it! -- Kathy…

While listening to streaming audio and watching Gameday real time updates at http://www.mlb.com I will invariably (after an hour or so) get the following error message as IE7 shuts down: "Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.60000.16512, faulting module flash 9d.ocx, version 9.0.47.0, fault address 0x00099a25." The problem seems to occur only at the MLB website. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Brand new motherboard Gigabyte GA-VM900M with Socket 775 CPU in it P4 3.0Ghz. and 512megs ram. Oddities happening all over this installation made me doubt the thing is working right. So, I decided to get out a brand new hard drive that has never been used before, install XP fresh on it and install the motherboard drivers thereafter. All APPEARS OK but when you do something requiring a lot of mucking about, it sometimes dies. This is EXACTLY what happened with the computer before under its own CPU and motherboard and older XP installation. I thought the case may be busted because some fool who put the computer together used the "case open" warning attachment on …

Please add this fix to the Microsoft KB. The solution to the BITS (Background Intelligent Tranfer Service - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/331716) startup problem (thereby making the O/S unstable and making downloads of updates pretty much impossible) seems to have an answer. However no solution is discussed in the KB, or so it seems. I did this myself and it fixed the problem for me. Why does it work? I have no idea. The answer is posted here: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/30563319/bits-service-fails-to-sta.aspx Text: 'This was the third newsgroup I have posted to and this has become a bit of a sore point. I started …

To clean up and get of rid of the stuff that system would not let me get rid of, I am trying to re-install Windows XP with the original CD that I installed my current system more than 4 years ago. I did activate the Windows however I did not register. During the re-install process, Microsoft asks me whether I accept the terms of the licensing agreement, however, when I enter that "I agree" the system does not accept the input or responds to it. It only lets me "Reject" the terms in which case the installation stops. The only changes that I have made to the system are changes to the memory, and updates to the Motherboard and the DVD Burner BIOS's. Does anybody ha…

Hi, I've been experiencing a problem with SysTray for quiet some time now and have not been able to figure it out. I'm hope that someone here can help. The problem is that the contents of my SysTray seem to change on alternate re-boots. On one re-boot I'll have 13 icons in the SysTray and the next I'll have 2 lesss - 11 icons. It appears to be consistent, the 2 icons that are always missing are The Norton 360 and the "SoundBlaster Volume control" icons (note the Windows volume icon is always present). It's almost has if Windows uses 2 slightly differenct configurations and it alternates between them on each re-boot. I'm running Windows XP SP2 with all the l…

Using Windows XP Professional SP2 on a Compaq Presario V6000 laptop with 1 GB ram, cannot get system to complete boot one time in three (no desktop) if there is more than one account with administrator privileges. If there is only one account the system comes up fine in 12 seconds. Any ideas on what causes the failure to bring up the desktop if there is more than one account? In instances where the desktop doesn't come up, pressing the power button to hibernate the system, and then restoring it, brings up the desktop.

Hello, I wasn't keen on networking in XP and i had NOT any kind of problem under Windows 2000 with same hardware but i decided to upgrade XP SP2 Pro. The problems has begun with installing XP rather than 2k, my Surecom EP-320X-S ethernet NIC was recognized as "Asound 10/100M Based Fast Ethernet Card" resulted a lot problems that i don't want you to make confused by counting all. Maybe my ethernet chipset is based on that card but it's not sufficent so i changed to original Surecom driver MANUALLY. My ethernet adapter is Surecom EP-320X-S and i've updated driver to 2.74 from 2.60. Then after several next boot-ups my computer started to freeze at Welc…

I use my Vista Ultimate machine as a Home Theater PC. When the PC starts up it goes directly to Vista MCE and the remote is unresponsive (as is the machine) for up to a minute. The ATI driver also does not fully load and other such fun things. Does anyone know why this would be happening? Thanks!

I have application error 1000 and system error service control manager 7000 that freeze XP. No security errors. Can't get details on errors in event viewer because computer freezes when clicking on red X next to error. Dr. Watson Postmortem Debugger freezes. I have tried SFC/Scannow (took 3 hours) but it didn't help. Any suggestions would be appreciated -- Mike X

I have been getting reports of an "APPCRASH" when I launch Media Center. The "Media Center Extensibility Host" fails to load probably due to my firewall, but Media Center itself loads and seems to run fine. My question is, should I care? What does this host do? If I should care, how do I allow this in my firewall config?
