Wired is suggesting that Adobe Systems may launch a competitor to Microsoft Office. Not only would this not be surprising (though I see little evidence in the article pointing to the presumption), but if anyone were to do it well, it would be Adobe. The only thing better would be if Adobe, Apple, and OpenOffice could get together. Open source plus two of the most innovative makers of software in the industry...I'm salivating. (In fact, don't you think that it makes a lot of sense for Apple to acquire Adobe, given the similar corporate mentalities/competencies? Me, too.) From the article: ... Link To Original Article

Hi. I get this error on my Vista (Ultimate) machine if I try to login away from the network. The machine will reboot 4-5 times with a "windoes has encountered a critical error and will close in 1 minute". No other users experience the issue. Is there a Group Policy setting being applied here preventing local access unless a DC is available? Regards and thanks in advance. Mark

Wireless access Local Only
by Guest Spaniel Jasper- 0 replies

I've a VAIO laptop running Vista Home Premium with a DLINK router. I've searched threads here and elsewhere and found similar problems but no definitive solution for my problem. The problem is I get seemingly random occurrences of Local Only access. I say seemingly random but it seems to occur after exiting sleep mode, after switching user or when going from battery power to mains power but not every time. The signal strength remains at normal strength hence no loss of siganl. The cure is sometimes to disable and re-enable the PCs wireless adapter, sometimes re-boot the computer and sometimes I have to power off the router. KIM (MS) replied to a similar …

using WSUSSCN2.CAB
by Guest Rainer- 0 replies

Hello, I am trying to find a way to obtain the list of patches and security updates that should be installed for specific Microsoft operating systems and applications. It has to be some sort of list, which depending on the operating system or application given, it brings the list of patches or updates that should be installed. I would like to know if this information can be obtained from the WSUSSCN2.CAB file and how. The KB article 927745 brings some information on this issue, but I find it quite cryptic and incomplete. Using MBSA and MBSACLI are not an option, because they both require administrator rights. Thank you for your attention!

Dell Inspiron 6000, Running Windows XP. Computer has worked perfectly all along. Today I noticed that the remove button from Add and Remove Programs was missing. Then I noticed that there are tons of new programs listed - looks like many of them are mtoolkit files according to some research I've done. Some forums say they are unique to Dell some say they are related to wireless. I am looking for a definitive answer to what these files are, why they showed up after two years and if I can delete them – and if so, how to delete them because they don't show up in a search and there is no remove function in Add/Remove programs. Here is a partial list mCore mDrWi…

XP Forgets Settings
by Guest Jethro- 0 replies

My XP PRO SP2 frequently forgets at least some 'settings' upon a fresh boot-up. For example - my resolution is supposed to stay set at 1280X768 to handle my LCD monitor, but this AM, the machine booted up to 800X600. The desktop display also threw all my icons to upper left portion of the screen, requiring me to manually put them back where they were when I shut down. There are other 'forgets'. Is there a fix or utility for this anomaly? Thanks Jethro

Normally on this PC if I check IE6 - properties- " Temporary Internet Files settings" it shows the Temporary Internet Files folder as being: C:\Documents and Settings\Bill\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files OCCASIONALLY, when I check it, it shows as it does right now : ( OLD designation): "C:\Docume~\Bill\LocalS~\Te Internet Files " ( I wrapped text 'cuz that's how it looks) If I click 'View files' it shows full path in Explorer, but why a '~' on Settings page ? I noticed it today and it was AFTER Norton Antivirus had updated ( at boot time). It took the system a few minutes to 'get going' (I've noticed that when NAV updates at boot time) and…

I have individual and a shared calendar set up on our system. Is there anyway to link calendar entries creates in a personal calendar to the same entry in the shared calendar so that if one entry is edited or deleted then the duplicate entry in the shared calendar is also edited without having to go in and edit the two manually.
