Folks, I posted about this before, but I didn't get a reply. However, I now have more information from testing. The problem is that when I read a large directory tree - either with a program or a DIR command - Windows XP is a lot slower in normal mode than in Safe mode. Thinking this might be due to running applications, I tried disabling ZoneAlarm, disabling the Anti-virus, removing the Google Desktop (which had indexing disabled), removing QuickTime, but none of this made any difference. Trying Safe mode (either command-prompt, standard, or with networking) made things a lot quicker (6 seconds rather than 17 seconds). Now I happen to try this on thre…

I have several terminal NLB farms with multiple nodes in each farm. When a user calls in with issues it is hard to find exactly where that user is logged in at (which node) with tsadmin. Is there an easy way or GUI somewhere that will show the contents of the Session Directory to find where the user is actually logged in at? Thanks,

What is the default font that is used for labels, tabs, etc. in dialog boxes? I had a problem with Adobe Photoshop recently, and to fix it I had to copy all my fonts in C:\Windows\Fonts to a temporary folder, delete all the fonts from C:\Windows\Fonts, and then reinstall all the fonts. This solved the Photoshop problem, but ever since that time, many of the dialog boxes in programs I use (such as Adobe Acrobat and Adobe FrameMaker) use a larger font size for text box labels, tab labels, etc. This means that text is sometimes truncated or covered by another control. I would like to get the size back to what it was before. Dan

I've used my wireless router for quite some time, but I recently got a new computer. Therefore, I'm sure that's where the problem enlies. I set up preferred wireless connections for school and home. Whenever I'm at school, the internet connects automatically, but at home it wil not connect. In fact when I look at my available wireless connections, I see "Unnamed network" Secured. This is my network because it's in high signal strength and I can connect to it. The problem is everytime I need to connect, I have to type in the name for the network and the key. It has detected my network the first time I set it up with the name and did it automatically, but i…

hi, i've read that Vista's backup does NOT back up EFS encrypted files... is there a good 3rd party backup utility which does, or is this inherent with EFS ??? can i assume that Vista's Complete PC Backup (image) utility does backup EFS files & that they can be restored ??? thanks, mike.

We recently installed windows 2003 terminal server with SP2. Most of our printer are HP laserjet printers and to be specific laserjet 4100, 4050, 4300and 9000 series printer. We get the default printer mapped ok while logging on to the terminal server but seem to lose the additional trays in the printer settings on the TS client. Is there any way to fix this issue. If we log on as admin to that TS session we can add the trays and the setting for that particular workstation remains OK. Is this a permission issue? Once we have the trays the printing is not an issue
