Hello, I have several machines with same kind of IP adresses 10.2.XXX.XXX. They have all the same subnet mask, the same gateway. They are all connected to the same switch. They can all ping themselves. They have all the same property ''Link speed and duplex''=auto-detect. All the machines can ping machines with IP adresses 10.1.XXX.XXX except 1 computer. And this is my problem. When this computer (@IP=10.2.XXX.XXX) try to ping machines with 10.1.XXX.XXX IP adresses, the following output appears: hardware error hardware error hardware error hardware error The computer who can not ping has the following operating system: microsoft windows xp professional x64 e…

This doesn't happen every time I remote in, but sometimes it seems the desktop won't refresh. I am remoting in from both a laptop or a tower with xp on it to a vista machine. Once connected, if I click the start button or open a window and then close either the image stays on the desktop but unsuable. It seems to be happening with the laptop more then the tower. I do have to connect to the wireless network through a vpn and didn't know if that might be causing the problem. Hopefully this makes sense. Chad VanHorn

The latest Quick Heal Antivirus detects ntoskrnl.exe as a trojan and deletes it automatically for you. Once i rebooted, i realized that it is an operating system file and that windows requires it for it boot. To fix it, just put in your original XP CD, select "R" at the recovery console, and cd to the i386 folder of the XP cd. E:\i386\copy ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe this should fix it most probably. If it doesnt add another line. E:\i386\copy pci.sy_ c:\windows\system32\drivers\pci.sys Hope this helps -- AnAgile ------------------------------------------------------------------------ AnAgile's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/…

I have the following problem: we have a new Windows 2003R2 terminal server in our office. Our Windows 2000 and XP PC's can connect to this server normally, but our Windows 4.0 and 5.0 thin clients are unable to connect. The thin clients can still normally login to our older terminal servers running Windows 2003 and Windows 2000. This issue is weird, because there are no errors in the server's Eventlog. Can anybody help?

USATODAY.com - BURLINGTON, Vt. - There's a digital ax hanging over John Canning's head, but he doesn't much care. He's too busy surfing the Internet, perusing his e-mail, compiling driving directions and keeping track of the stock market - all on what amounts to a portable computer he cradles in the palm of his hand: his iPhone. Wow. I guess when you have more cash than taste you can afford to buy research reports that say all sorts of nice things about you. Open-source companies have to rely on things like products that please customers; Microsoft can afford to ramrod research down customers' throats. A great example, as Mary Jo notes on ZDNet, is two new Microsoft-commissioned research reports that (gasp!) find Microsoft Sharepoint is a better investment for systems integrators and that "Office Open XML (is) the format showing the most progressive adoption rates in the marketplace over the next 12 months." The research is of dubious value given that it's bought and paid for, but wha…

Good Day Everybody! I am looking to buy a new up to the minute PC and make the most of the cheap prices in the UK. I want to try to use my old PC ( a 3 1/2 year old 3.GHz Pentium 4 with 300GB HDDs (150GB SATA) and 1GB Ram) as a server because I can! Networked to this (wireless) will be my new PC - spec to be decided, and my laptop (1.GHz Celeron Mobile thingy with 500Mb Ram and 80GB HDD), via a Netgear router modem. The new PC will be used mainly for everyday work, not gaming, internet obviously, and downloading! I will be making a lot of DVDs from AVI files on the PC, and want to use the laptop for more casual browsing and office work. I mainly w…

Hi gang, I've been setting up my taskbar on the right side for years. I usually set up my environment with the "Windows Classic" desktop theme. I wanted to try the "Windows XP" theme and now I noticed that my taskbar gets smaller (aka thinner) on each log on. If I set the width to 4 QuickLaunch icons, I log out, log in and now I see only 3 icons. Yes, I've tried the "lock Taskbar" option, same behaviour. If i go back to the "Windows Classic" desktop theme, eveything is ok. Is this documentated anywhere and is there a fix ? Thanks !
