We recently made our new Kusto data connection available in public preview: Cosmos DB to Azure Data Explorer Synapse Link. Azure Cosmos DB is a fantastic transactional NoSQL database. It is able to scale to meet big data requirements, is multi-region capable (with multi-master), has very predictable low latency (with even an SLA on latency) and supports geospatial data. Azure Data Explorer (ADX) is a phenomenal big data analytics platform. It is able to scale to petabytes, is optimized for time series, supports structured, semi-structured (JSON) & unstructured (text) data and has great geo spatial capabilities. Those two technologies greatly co…

I like solutions that are both secure and user-friendly at the same. (Who doesn't?) I also know that it can be real hard to build such solutions on your own so I'm happy when the Azure AD teams provide the bits I need for implementing the authentication parts in a good way :) When I noticed a post about Certificate-Based Authentication (CBA) on mobile with YubiKeys I wanted to take things for a spin: Azure AD Certificate-based Authentication (CBA) on Mobile The blog post itself is just a teaser, but it provides links to the configuration docs so I thought I would follow those. Unfortunately I felt the instructions were missing a few details for doing a qu…

Key points: There is a need to give external customers access to data in a Power BI Embedded dashboard which is very common in SaaS and multitenant applications. Solution involves using a service principal and managed identities to authorize external users. Managed identities provide an automatically managed identity in Azure AD for applications to use when connecting to resources that support Azure AD authentication. Can be implemented using either a system-assigned or user-assigned managed identity. To implement the solution: Define a user-assigned managed identity (in a managed app). Authorize the user-assigned managed identity to have the necessary…

Synapse genie visual image @Rajeshdadi , @KranthiMedam, @ravitejabhalla @InnovatorsClub Synapse Genie Framework improves Spark pool utilization by executing multiple Synapse notebooks on the same Spark pool instance. It considers the sequence and dependencies between notebook activities in an ETL pipeline which results in higher usage of a full cluster for resources available in a Spark pool. When to use Genie utility? Synapse Genie is helpful when you have a set of related notebooks that are part of a Synapse pipeline. In any group of notebooks, the workload varies from small to large. By executing such varied workloads on a single Spark pool instance…

Uncompressed file uploads are slower than uploading the compressed file to the artifact when using the GitHub Workflow. The time taken for a sample Node application to Azure App Service was 50mins to an hour for completing the deployment, that was triggered using GitHub Action Workflow. The screenshot below shows the total duration for the task to complete using the default GitHub Action workflow: To help mitigate the problem for reducing the deployment time significantly I have added the following steps in the GitHub Action workflow. Please note as I am using the ubuntu-latest OS to run the GitHub Action so there might be different method for file co…

This is causing that all these operations (rebuild and update statistics) are taking more time that the maintenace windows that they have. I would like to share with you my findings how to reduce this time. I found we're updating too many statistics and we worked in two main operations: Avoiding to update statistics of are related to indexes: I saw that our customer is rebuilding the indexes and after it updating all statistics. Service Fabric Explorer (SFX) is an open-source tool for inspecting and managing Azure Service Fabric clusters. Service Fabric Explorer is a desktop application for Windows, macOS and Linux. To launch SFX in a web browser, browse to the cluster's HTTP management endpoint from any browser - for example https://clusterFQDN:19080. Service Fabric explorer may not load for numerous reasons. Most frequent reasons could be access denied while trying to access or unable to choose the right certificate. Following steps provide some useful insights on investigation steps and mitigations to be followed in such scenarios. 1. Check the status of the cluster and certificate that is …

Attack Simulation Training is an intelligent phish risk reduction tool that measures behavior change and automates the deployment of an integrated security awareness training program across an organization. It allows security teams to run intelligent simulations and measure users for a baseline awareness of phishing risk, provide actionable insights and recommendations to remediate risk with hyper-targeted training designed to change behavior, and then measure behavioral progress against that benchmark through repeated simulation. Today we are excited to announce that Attack Simulation Training now provides enhanced user telemetry in the simulation reports! This is…

Subdomain takeover vulnerabilities are, in most cases, the result of an organization using an external service and letting it expire. However, that expired subdomain is still a part of the organization's external attack surface, with domain DNS entries pointing to it. An attacker could then claim this subdomain and take control of it with little to no effort, a considerable blow to an organization's security posture. How does this happen? For example, a company might enlist a service desk provider, "FreshDesk.' It would point a subdomain like "support.mycompany.com" to FreshDesk and then claim this domain with the Freshdesk service to activate it. However, a proble…
