I have Windows set to "notify me to download and install new updates" when checking for updates automatically. I have recently noted that such setting does not work itself unless I check Windows Update manually. I appreciate it much if anyone, who has encountered such problem, will soon give me any technical advice.

It does test for validation of real microsoft, no problem. I have called microsoft, they no less than me. No error, just failed to download. Anyone have the answer? wts msaccess & unc
by Guest patti- 0 replies

I am a confused newbie on wts. I am trying to automate some imports in access. My db is on server "a". The batch file i use to call import macros (which call vba mods) has been loaded onto a wts which has access installed. The wts isn't configured to handle unc. The batch file resides on the wts so that it can be run independent of an individual's pc. The db meanwhile calls on many files on many different servers. I will be conferring w/ it guy - but would like to better informed on the subject of unc & mapped drives w/ access & wts. In particular, what is the security issue of unc w/ wts? any help, links, examples, experiences greatly appr…

I enabled Dr. Watson in order to be able to get copies of the log and memory dump that was normally sent in by WER. I would like to switch back to using the standard WER now. To switch to Dr. Watson I simply typed drwtsn32 -i from a command line. Please let me know what I need to do to restore WER. Thanks, Matthew Laney

I think the problem started after this past Tuesday's Window's Vista automatic updates. I can receive e-mails, I can see the e-mails and have also access to the Newsgroups (like this one), and I can see and connect to webisites, cut I cannot print my received messages. I can print using my other programs, so it only happens with MSN dialup, it appears. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Unable to Print from Java Application
by Guest mmv- 0 replies

Greeting! I'm unable to use the PRINT from a Java application. As soon as I print it kicks me right out of the app, and generates this long error message (which I will only put part of it): An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM. Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) occurred at PC=0x77F49183 Function=EngQueryEMFInfo+0x2C5 Library=C:\WINDOWS\system32\GDI32.dll Current Java thread: at sun.awt.windows.WToolkit.eventLoop(Native Method) at sun.awt.windows.WToolkit.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) Sometimes it allows me to print and most of the time it kicks me right out. …

Hi All... I have tried every fix listed and then some on two different computers. I sent the following to I have been working on this issue (searching KB, Blogs etc) trying suggested "Fixes" for three days and still have NO RESOLUTION. I have four other workstations here at work with the same issue and need to get a fix as soon as possible. I also do not want to go through three days of trial and error for each of the remaining workstations. I have ran the clean up tool, tried suggestions at http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320112 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824643, ran the Dial-a-fix and the update still fails. Since I provide technical…

Causes for failure of return from hibernation
by Guest Jeff- 0 replies

I'm wondering what are the common causes for the failures of return from hibernation in XP SP2. I have a one year old notebook that runs XP MCE and I have it set up to hibernate when I close the lid. Despite hearing of people having problems with hibernation in XP, I have rarely had problems with the PC restoring itself from hibernation - till recently. As of a month or so, it has become not uncommon for the notebook to try to restore itself and after reading the file (progress meter goes to the end) asks me to delete the saved file and restart Windows. I would not complain except that this is a change for my system and I therefore wonder why the hibernation…

Using search companion with advanced option 'Search hidden files and folders' plus a date. However when I save the search and re-open at a later date, the 'Search hidden files and folders' option is no longer checked. Any suggestions as to how I can get the saved search to keep all parameters? Thanks.

When I set up a Windows XP system, the computer is connected to our network and recieves it's IP address information through a DHCP server. This includes the IP address of our Primary WINS server. The system is only placed on our network to activate Windows. After completing activation, a static IP address and network are assigned, the system is shut down and shipped to our clients. When the systems are powered up at the client site and put on their network, the entry for our Primary WINS server still exists if they run 'ipconfig /all'. There is no WINS server on this network.
