I've got 5 computers networked on a server all work great except one of the computers (wireless-linksys-N series) that when you go and start the program it will open the program but the data fields sitting on the server are not there(can't see the server drive). If I first go to my computer and double click on the mapped drive where the data resides (y)on the server it comes up without problems. then I close the my computer and start the program and the data is now there..It seems that the server is sleeping but the other programs (word etc..) start fine. I've checked and have all settings on do not shutdown (only the monitor) any ideas? all other computers o…

MPEG Display Issue in Windows XP Home Edition
by Guest Dave- 0 replies

Hi, I have an issue when trying to play a 30 minute MPEG, I believe its MPEG1 because not all MPEGs have this issue. When trying to play a 30 minute video clip, any player shows its only 20 seconds long and it will only play those 20 seconds of video, but the audio will continue to play. I've tried reinstalling/updating drivers, reinstalled DirectX 9.0 and it doesn't seem to work. The only thing that works is I can convert it to AVI format and this solves the issue. I have a P4 3.0 Ghz with 1.5gig of Ram and an ATI Radeon 9250 video card My second PC plays them correctly. Anyone ever seen this issue? Thanks Dave

Hi, I have WindowsXP MCE, all latest updates from Microsoft. Yesterday I connected to my computer using RDP from work, when I got back I found that my Media Center has a black screen, nevertheless the MC application itself is visible when I launch it using a green button on remote. In case of all other application I can see only black screen and lonely mouse cursor. During computer restart the screen become blank momentary after Windows boot screen, that mean I cannot see login dialog box. The remote access application are working without any problem, I still can access the computer by RDP or VNC. Any ideas? Thank you in advance, Leonid

KB938829 causes stop: C0000221
by Guest Biggles- 0 replies

Hi, An office PC running XP Professional had KB938829 installed and after rebooting got a blue screen stop:C0000221 with checksum error on gdi32.dll CHKDSK found nothing wrong when the system was booted from another partition, so I overwrote the c:/windows/system32/gdi32.dll dated 19.6.2007 with one from another update from August and the stop went away. Reloaded KB938829 again and the blue screen stop came back. The 19.6.2007 gdi32.dll was back. Repeated the fix and the problem went away again - it seems like this is a bad fix at least for one HP system, and a google search brings up 2 other similar cases from the last 24 hours - unfortunately writte…

Can MSI Installer 3.1 Be Reinstalled On XPSP2
by Guest Rene- 0 replies

Hi, When I try and open certain programs, the MSI Installer insists on reinstalling my Microsoft Word 2000. Event ID 1001. This has been going on since I had a bit of problems with my machine. I had to use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove a program that would not uninstall, and it did a job on my machine. I was able to put it back together 99.9% except for this little glitch. I checked the registry to see if the permissions for installer were set correctly, and I think I might have found the problem. In the MS support page Titled: "Windows Installer-related event IDs are logged in the Application log when you start an Office program" it explains h…

The disappearing problems

Suppose you had problems which disappeared after some time. Situation 1 I boot partition G, which has Wxp, and eventually I try, repeatedly, to run an app, which has run many times before, but it just starts-up then the desktop appears. I shutdown then boot partition F where I work for a while then shutdown F and boot G. I then try to run the app and discover that it runs just fine. Situation 2 I try to boot partition H, which has Vista and has booted many times before, but the boot process only reaches the Microsoft "moving indicator". I tryed booting in safe mode. I tryed booting using last known good configuration. But the results were failure. I then …

I am experiencing a weird problem with RDP... when I minimize a session from the Connection Bar, it insists upon maximizing on its own about every five minutes forcing me to reminimize. Anyone know what could be causing this (no other application behaves this way)?

Inbound connections fail, outbound connections are fine - firewall shut off, very strange
by Guest wwworldwideweb@gmail.com- 0 replies

This is a strange one. I have a XP Pro machine in a domain. It's working fine up to a point. It can access file shares on a server, it can access a mailbox on the Exchange Server via Outlook. The internet works fine, it can access other computers in the domain...everything looks fine. The trouble comes when I try to connect to it from the server or another computer in the domain. I get the "network path not found" error message. I can't even ping the computer. It shows up in the domain list but can't be connect to. The Windows firewall is turned off and no other firewall is installed... This is really strange, any thoughts or ideas? I thought maybe the caus…
