Updates

A few nights ago when I clicked off the computer I was advised of some 12 upgrades were being installed. The computer then turned off. The next morning when I logged on a window appeared called UPDATE MANAGER. I clicked OK only to find it required a disc to instal (what I don't know). Then an error window popped up Error 1706. With this Update Manager running I couldn't reboot the computer and had to Ctl/Alt/Dlt to get rid of it. It happens every time I log on. I searched Error 1706 only to find I needed Microsoft Windows Installer. When I worked through that I re-installed Windows Explorer downloading version 7.0. It still didn't get rid of the Update Man…

I have MCE running on a VAIO AR31M. The remote control works through a built in IR reciever. When I attempt to setup TV signal from Sky box I get error message that blocks further progress. Can MCE be configured to recognise the internal reciever, or do I have to get a seperate USB device. -- derekJago ------------------------------------------------------------------------ derekJago's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=29622 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=803870 http://forums.techarena.in

I had a similar problem but finally got it to work, the pc850 works with a newer version of the widcomm bluetooth driver. (don't bother using windows built in bluetooth control panel, it will not work, i don't even think any hardware actually works with it unless it is shipped with your computer) I got this version to work with windows vista and my pc850 http://rapidshare.com/files/7270107/BTW_5.1.0.2700_x64.rar.html This is a newer version of the drivers that were included with your pc850 and what motrorola offers themselves on their support page. It worked like a charm, and my pc no longer freezes anymore whenever i plug in my dongle. There is an even…

IE 7 Runonce Operation Aborted and other errors.

I had a Home Premium machine that I think was hit by a virus. (The user click on a link in one of those e-cards.) I reset IE but the opening page (runonce.msn.com) either stays blank or I get an Operation Aborted error. AND...Mcafee's security center is blank. It all seems like to me something is broken is running scripts. At one time Vista told me it had the Renos virus too... I find precious little on how to remove it. I can't with McAfee. Any help?

Defender mayhem

I purchased a new desktop system from Dell a couple of weeks ago. I noticed that it came with some junk preinstalled, so I proceeded to delete the Roxio software, that had about 8 different entries in the installed software list. As soon as I finished doing it, things started to go wrong: -Everytime I turn on the computer, I get two error messages: "MSASCUI.exe-Bad Image C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpRTMon.DLL is either not desiged to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again"...etc. "WMI Provider Host stopped working and was closed". The second one is particularly insistent, and will pop up every so often. As a res…

Startup timing for Network
by Guest +Bob+- 0 replies

My network car (or connection) seems to start up very late in the login process. I have a program that runs out of the key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] It needs the network. Unfortunately, it beats the network card up from a cold boot. I can see that the tray icon for the network isn't even up yet but the program has already kicked off. Is there any way to get the network startup to run earlier in the startup process? Perhaps get it to the head of the list in the misc stuff that starts up in the tray ? Thanks,
