When I copy a file (e.g. 21025891.txt) to scope path of the Catalog and run the following code immediately after that, index server did not provide me any result. computer adminstrator but no permission to run programs
by Guest Doug- 0 replies

The PC user is set a scomputer administrator but cannot execue any program. The message says no permission. Explorer lets me see the program on the C: drive, but it will not execute. The message is that windows cannot run. I've done a full spyware and virus check but found nothing. In Safe mode, Administrator can execute. Creating a new user with admin privileges, then reboot in normal mode, that user cannot execute any program either. What do I look for? -- Doug

Re: Lockups after installing Microsoft Updates on 8/9/05

I get constant lockups now after the last 2 weeks. I assume it is the driver updates. And yes it appears to be the networking updates. The only problem is that I downgraded the network driver (nforce 4 eth) to the previous version and still get the lockups. This is on Vista. event ID 1003 error code 100000d1
by Guest kgbaxter- 0 replies

I have had my windows xp home edition lock up lately. While using the machine, the mouse just freezes, and none of the keys work. Ctl-alt-del doesn't work, and I can't regain control of the machine --- so I just have to hold the off switch to kill the computer. When it restarts, I get the useful message that my machine has recovered from a serious error. I've gone into the "administrative tools" folder and looked at the error log, and what has been reported is: event ID 1003, error code 100000d1 When let the event viewer show me what this error is supposed to mean, none of the listed items seem to make any sense for my condition. I did not get a blue …

win xp pro 32-bit and win xp pro 64-bit
by Guest Allen Pardy- 0 replies

Hello. I have two computers: 32-bit xp pro and 64-bit xp pro. Both are set to share with folders, files and printer. Permissions are set properly. The 64-bit xp pro can see all the folders and files very well. The 32-bit xp pro can see the 64-bit in the network as well. I can see the shared folder but everytime I click the folder to access the files, it always ask me to log-in with password. The printer is attached to the 64-bit xp pro and is shared which I can't access too from the 32-bit xp pro. Do you think this might be because it uses 64-bit drivers. Those are my two problems: Cannot access the 64-bit xp pro files without logging in (which I do not have log-o…

Moving XP installation from laptop to desktop
by Guest John DeStefano- 0 replies

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows XP Home installed on it. The laptop has died (display is completely blank, and external monitors show a blank screen), but the hard drive is okay. I bought a USB external enclosure for the hard drive, and I hooked it up to my PC. My BIOS permits me to boot from the drive, but the XP installation itself complains about the hardware and won't boot. I wanted to then try a repair installation, but the XP disc that came with the laptop works only on the laptop hardware. So I tried to do a repair install with an XP Professional disc, but that complains that the XP Home disk does not contain an XP compatible partit…

imjpmig consuming excessive CPU cycles has been reported at this and other communities previously > http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support&tid=a0e335b4-09f7-40f9-95fb-558284e476d8&cat=en-us-ms-winxp&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us&m=1&p=1 > Recommendations range from removing the non-english language support or deselecting the imjpmig.exe from running. FYI: the relevant registry entry is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run!IMJPMIG8.1 I think those two options are as extreme as recommending a decapitation or a lobotomy as solu…

How to Install W2K on a Modern System (Lessons Learned the Hard Way)
by Guest W. Watson- 0 replies

Rev. Aug. 18, 2007 I've learned a bit more about this, and it's reflected in this revision post. [start of an Aside on How This Got Started] Learned from various sources including the thread I started here, "Can W2K Be Installed on SATA Drives?" Let me start with an explanation of "the Hard Way". I have a P5NSLI ASUS motherboard that supports both IDE and SATA controllers. The key word is "both". I wanted to install W2K on the STATA HD, a 320G WS SATA drive. I had some fun trying to get to a point where the OS install asked how I wanted to partition the drive. I was stumped by this window that came up in the install: ============================== 76294…

IE and Firefox missing background/layout graphics on website

Alright this has me stumped. I'm fixing a clients computer and noticed that when he goes onto websites its missing the layout/ background defined that are defined in the CSS document for the site. Regular html defined images still show. The websites display normally in Opera however and if I logon to Windows under a different profile name it works in IE and Firefox. So the problem is specific to that Windows profile. I've disabled all 3rd party virus, spyware, firewalls...after I ran a full scan of course(nothing too serious). Nothing in Hijackthis out of the ordinary. For IE has yahoo toolbar installed, and Firefox has google toolbar. My next option w…
