I have a Windows XP Pro sp2 desktop (desktop A) that logs into a domain network. This user does not have access to private folders on the server but is able to access them. I check on permission on the server and this user has no permissions at all. I login as this user on a different Windows XP desktop (desktop B) and that user is not able to connect to those private folders. I login as a different user on (desktop A) and could not access those private folders. I also ran virus scan and spy ware on the desktop and found nothing. Any type of help would be helpful.

Wanted to share this, maybe it helps someone out there. Affected: * Windows 2000 Advanced Server with SP4 * The Server is multihomed (2 nics with different subnet) * DNS Server is running on it * DNS Optiions : enable round robin = OFF, enable netmask ordering = ON Cause: Update KB935666 replaces DNS.EXE to version 5.0.2195.7135 (13/4/2007) Effect: The enable round option has been enabled after the reboot. After manually disabling again there are still issues with incorrect resolving. It seems that the enable netmask ordering option does not work at all anymore. When clients connect they get the first name record in the DNS database. This should not be.…

{...reposting...I think I might have triggered a word filter on the Microsoft servers, never saw it arrive there...} Account lockout is a poor substitute for good passwords -- and is one of the most expensive security features you can use. Let's think about this by considering the threat. What threat does account lockout (attempt to) mitigate? Password guessing. How can you make password guessing attacks become useless for an attacker? Two ways: implement lockouts or use good (meaning long) passwords. Consider the first choice, account lockouts. The typical cost to an organization to reset locked accounts is US$75 per help desk call. In a medium or l…

I recently got a computer virus. Pretty sure the system is clean now, but I think the virus did some damage. When I go to run command prompt (go to start, run, type cmd), the window pops up for a split second and then closes again. No error message or anything, it just closes. I've tried using the XP discs repair function but it shows my windows as being on the E drive when it's really on the C drive so I'm a bit concerned that it might mess my whole system up if I use it. I'm also having problems with windows installer, I tried installing Norton AV 2007, and it says it can't validate the windows installer, tried dling the installer from MS, but it says it can'…

I have one machine that has a problem when it begins to boot: there's a blue screen that says something like that: Stop: C000021a Fatal system error The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x0000000) The system has been shutdown There's no virus or spyware (I checked twice) and I don't see anything about an msgina.dll in the registry. The only thing that I think that can be the problem is that this machine once had installed the LogMeIn. I deleted all the references in the registry but there's not enough. Any ideas. Thanks for all your help

I'm running Vista Business on a Dell Inspiron laptop. Actually I have 3 identical machines. Each has a second external monitor on the left (because of the furniture configuration). We also have several older Dell Inspiron laptops running XP SP2 with a second external monitor on the left. The XP machines all work fine but all of the Vista machines do not. Each of the Vista machines was purchased after Feb 1, 2007, and were configured with Vista at the time of purchase by Dell. We reported the problem to Dell, but Dell says it is a Vista problem and is therefore a "non-issue" for them, because they say it will be fixed in SP1. The Vista machines use NVi…
