I have noticed recently that although I have my folder organization set to Name (alphabetical), when I open the "Open" dialog box in programs and set them to view my folder, they are set in "Modified" (by date) view. The folder is a non-C: drive holding data. My current view is List, and the explorer window itself displays the files in Name order. I recently deleted some hidden files I thought associated with a folder "tweaking" program (change color, background, etc.) do to an unsatisfactory result and noticable folder lag, and now I have encountered this problem. Prior to deleting the files, I did have the folder set to "Modified" by earliest to late…

Hi, Thanks in advance for the opportunity to ask for assistance. When I repaired XP sp2 after a problem with Trend MicroCillin 2007 the Windows installer started to play up. I ended up uninstalling MS office 2003 after having installer popping up every time I tried to open Office progs. When I tried to reinstall MSO 03 but got the following error message: 'Error 1311 source file not found c:\msocache\allusers\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\E3561406.cab' I tried Windows install cleanup to remove the installer problem then installed Windows Installer 3.1 also tried a full file upgrade of Office sp3. This is more for others to read, if you sync a PDA or phone to the computer look on the setup disk for that. That's where I found outret.msi, it's used for the outlook setup for the sync. Hi: To all respective forum readers, please take notice: 1) First of all, my apologies for such a wide off-topic cross- posting. It's unusual, and very frowned upon. But I deem it necessary in lieu of recent events. You can just disregard if you will. 2) There is a user on the net who has impersonated "Don Klipstein", me, as well as other respectable Usenet posters. He/she is using our names, email addresses, and profiles to post nonsense on Usenet newsgroups. If you had to leave a port on Vista open to the world (no IP limitations allowed), would you leave VPN or RDP open? The other computer will be XP SP2 so the Network Level Authentication can be thrown out. And please don't ask why I am using a Vista machine for a VPN/RDP endpoint... this what they want.

I'm having trouble with my wireless internet connection similar to problems I and others described in this newsgroup several months ago. Sometimes the connection will drop out completely. Sometimes it will downgrade itself to "local only." This started happening sometime after the last update, a couple of Tuesdays ago. Now, it could be my router is going bad, though it's not that old. Or it could be the result of a heavy storm that passed through here several nights ago (seems like the problems started after that). I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed a CHANGE in their internet or network behavior since the last update. I hate to go sp…

Hi, I am trying to find a way that I can type in Chinese Traditional Language in MS Word 2000. I understand I'll need to install MS Global IME first. However, I am running Windows XP with Word 2000. And when I tried to instlal 5.02 version, it said it cannot be installed in my version of Windows since it is basically for Windows 2000 or earlier only. So what is my option? I have already installed the Chinese Language from Regional and Language Options and I do have the Language Bar on my Desktop with Chinese (Taiwan) option on it (I followed all the instructions on how to Set up for Chinese Word Processing on Window XP). However when I switch to the Chinese (…

Windows XP has the sysoc.inf file that could be edited to unhide applications so they could be removed with the add/remove Windows features. Is there anything similar in Vista? There's tons of crap I'd like to remove but I can't find out how to do it other than the long, slow manual method... -- XS11E, Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://blinkynet.net/comp/uip5.html

I tried to reinstall XP but got a blue-screen error STOP 0xC2 midway through the reinstall. Whenever I try to reboot, I am stuck in "setup is being restarted". The PC will not start up in safe mode, or any other "F8" advance startup option. The whole blue-screen error is STOP: 0x000000C2 (0x00000007, ...). The recommended fix is to run the Kernel Debugging tool. Any advise??? How can I get out of the loop of "setup is being restarted", so I can run the Kernel Debugging Tool? THANK YOU!!!

Howdie, Strange one, we've deployed 45 identical servers all running Win 2003 R2 SP1. IIS in installed & running on all. For some reason 6 of the servers don't have the MicrosoftIISv2 namespace in the WMI database (checked with scriptomatic). Is there a MOF or any other way (without reinstalling IIS) to reimport the IIS stuff back into WMI? I know I can blow away the system32\wbem\repository folder & let Windows rebuild the DB, but there has to be another way... Thanks in advance Craig

I'm running XP SP2 on a Dell Laptop. I connect to the Internet via Cable and an encrypted D-Link Router. Up until several weeks ago, My connection was automatic. All of a sudden, my wireless will not connect automatically. but does detect a wireless source. When I go to the Wireless Network Connection screen, I'm told that the connection requires my entering a WEP key. When I enter the appropriate 10 digit number, it connects with no problem. I've checked everything I can, and the appropriate WEP Key is stored, but I'm still asked to enter it manually each time. I never had to do this in the past. Any help would be appreciated.

The error messages are as follows: 1. Security Update For Microsoft XML Core Service 4.0 Service Pack2 (kb936181 or kb916281) not installed. 2.
