Is each user account supposed to have its own private My Documents folder? I thought this was the case, but when I created a new user account, it displayed the same files in My Documents and had the same privileges to those files as the original user account. Also, the other computers in our office have a certain drive letter mapped to a shared folder on a WinXP computer. Mapping of the drive letter required supplying the username and password of the computer with the shared folder. We have a multitide of Physical and Virtual servers that take 5 minutes to display properties of remote folders specifically on our 2000 servers. This does not effect anything other than servers we have applied SP2. I have reviewed a number of articles relating to performance (firewall, RSS etc) and tried following each but thus far none have resolved this. Any assistance is most welcome, it's a daunting task roling back 100+ servers to SP1 :-) Thank you in advance - Ronnie

I am using XP with all the relevant updates, however windows it crashing when closing or changing web pages. ie if I have one or more pages open, and wish to close one, they all crash at same time. I then lose the taskbar for a second or two, and then it's back to 'normal'. It occurs when opening pages singularly and with the tabbed format. I have run various spyware/virus checks and program updates, and still get the following error each time: Application Error Faulting application iexplorer.exe Event ID 1000 Name - faultrep.dll Version - version 5.1.2600.2180 Below is the description of the error. After building up a "2003" server, I updated IE to V7 via Windows Update. However, I found an application (McAfee update "puller") that did not work properly using IE7, so I uninstalled IE7 to revert back to IE6. Now, the offending application works OK but IE6 isn't working well otherwise. Boiling down a problem to the simplest, single issue – my XP professional installation is not correctly installed and is not working correctly. The causes of this situation are faulty tech support, multiple repairs and fixes – almost all made thing worse. This keeps happening to this computer. Sound stops. Device manager shows yellow ! and the device error states: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39). I cannot stop this problem. Please help... I have lost all sound twice now in the last two months. I did the fix below both times and it worked. Hi, I am really frustrated right now. I just upgraded my OS from XP Media Center to Home Premium. I am using my default Admin account and I can't even download any files from the Internet. After finishing downloads, suddenly the window closes without saying anything and the file is not there. Instead of saving, chose the "Run" option and still same thing. Anyway I copied some zip files into a directory. Unzipping it, everything is empty! Doesn't seem like it likes to unzip. In Yahoo Finance, I have no frames or headings at the top. I can hold my mouse on the spot where they are suppose to be and get the information. I also don't have any frames in my rental program reports. When I send a message in yahoo messenger, it types in color but doesn't appear when I send it. I have bit defender disabled and would like to know if there is a way to disable downloading defender updates from windows update? Vista Home Basic.

Every time I start up the computer Windows Desktop Search has to re-"scan" 30000-50000 items. This can keep the disk active for 20 to 30 minutes. Is this normal? It makes me question whether WDS is worth it or not. I tried researching the problem but couldn't find anything. I did find that I am unable to determine the version of WDS that I have installed. I thought that maybe a later version might improve things. Anybody know how to find the version? I have Google's answer to WDS (or was it the other way around) installed on my laptop (also XP). It gives just as good results without the excess disk activity.

When my computer wakes up from Sleep mode, I can't send or receive messages in Outlook unless I reboot the computer. Closing and re-opening Outlook doesn't help. This was working fine until yesterday. I moved my .pst file to a Public folder so I could share it with another computer (it wouldn't let me share it from its original location -- that's a separate discussion topic...) I don't know why that would cause this problem, though.
