Hi, I've have been trying to install a Japanese game on my PC. Almost the whole installation goes without problems until the installer tries to read an .txt file which is in Japanese and Windows can't read it so I have to abort the installation. I've installed the files for East Asian languages. The thing is I still can't read the .txt (it does in Word), also there is a guy in my MSN list which has Japanese kanji in his name which I don't see 9.5 out of 10 times. When I try to select 'Japanese' as language for non-unicode programs I get the error "Setup was unable to install the chosen locale. Please contact your system administrator". I'm the admin on…

What a stupid idea to replace Vista with Windows 2008 Server, especially the beta version, on the desktop. Some people just don't get it. Just FYI. Brain damaged I think. HA HA

Hi , I usually have a dedicated drive for my pagefile. So I have Windows installed on C: with the recommended minimum (2048) pagefile on C: ( for system dump) and then I specify to have another pagefile on Drive E: (windows managed) I have seen when using the Disk Mgr snap in that on one drive E: actually says "pagefile" on it and on another server it does not it just says "E: basic healthy" So my question is ......IF I am doing pretty much the same setup on multiple servers......what makes Disk Manager actually tag one physical disk as "pagefile" and othe server setup the same way Diskmanager just says the drive is healthy ??

We were testing our internal software on a new server due to go live within a few weeks, when the server failed with a BSOD. A search of the errors online indicated probable driver problems, so I ran verifier.exe, as per KB article 244617. I selected "verify all drivers", which required a reboot. Now the server is stuck in an endless loop of detecting the memory and RAID controllers, prompting for a boot from a backup ROM or PXE, and then shutting down and starting over again. What is going on? Has anybody experienced problems like this with verifier? How do you get around it? Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm testing virtual server 2005 SP1. I'm told that you can use virtual server for bare metal backup/restore of our servers. However in reviewing the documentation I don't see any mention on how this is done. Using virtual server how do you backup and entire server, store it, and then perform a restore to a system with no OS on it? Can this even be done in Virtual Server 2005?

When I open an incoming mail, the message briefly shows up on my OE6 window for less than a second, and then the message automatically converts to an attachment with .eml file form. I have to read the message on internet explorer window by opening the .eml file. This situation occurrs only from one particular person, not all other person. Is this my e-mail option setting problem or sender's option problem? M.hahn

Hi, I'm developing an application in PERL that runs over w2003 servers in different languages (spanish, english and french, overall). Depending on the system language the application does different things. Does anybody know how can I guess the system language in a W2003 server?? Is there any record in the system registry with this information?? Does anybody know a function in PERL to get this information?? Thanks.

Is it possible to use remote assistance as remote control (i.e. initate a remote assistance session from a remote comnputer without havign to have someone on the other end "accept" the connection)? I have a number of comuters that are used as unmanned dispalys that I control using VNC, but would rather use the built-in remote control features in XP. Remote Desktop will not work since it will leave the computer "locked" upon disconnect and also does not keep the same diaply resolution settings. I have found GPO settings to allow unsolicated assistance, but it still requires the assistee to acknowledge the request.

I have a windows server 2003 machine that I can not use the keyboard. It is a USB keyboard plugged in and does not respond to the keyboard in safe mode either.... end result is I can not log in to the machine. I also can not Remote Desktop in either, I am guessing some service is preventing both of them, but I don't know how to go about fixing anything without a keyboard. The ksyboard does work will the machine is booting up... Thanks

Question on folder redirection. Under the domain gpo we have my documents to be redirected to the users home directory. I was trying to create a folder redirection gpo in a test environment and it always gives me an access denied message. It doesn't give me the message if I do it on the same gpo as the mydocs redirection. Is there a reason I can't do this?? I am logged in as the domain admin on a single domain organization.
