I am running on an Acer Aspire 5000 with AMD Turion 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD formatted as NTFS and XP Pro. When I run Explore, it opens fine. But when I then try to expand the "C" drive to see more detail (folders, etc.), it takes about 30 seconds before it expands ( the hour glass displays during this time). Once it expands, I can collapse and expand it instantly. If I close Explore, however, and re-open it. The same problem occurs. Tom

Hi, You know crappy old versions of COM+ rollup packages of XP creates weird "event viewer" application error logs, especially for start-up programs. What's the latest and most stable rollup COM+ hotfix of XP PRO SP2? Is it downloadable? Thanks.

My friend's machine was made by Sony The computer allows us to use iether Traditional Chinese or English, so we picked chinese (did I mention he's a Chinese) :P The problem starts here... After finish the installation with crapware Vista's "Windows Update" is in English... which I don't understand why... But the mayjor problem is... even we set the language option to load non uni-code program using simplified Chinese, the system can only load Traditional Chinese... (which lead to word gaps in the program) Windows Vista cannot load Simplified Chinese code for those buggy program which refuse code with Uni-code... What should I do?

  7. AP - At the center of a black hole there lies a point called a singularity where the laws of physics no longer make sense. In a similar way, according to futurists gathered Saturday for a weekend conference, information technology is hurtling toward a point where machines will become smarter than their makers. If that happens, it will alter what it means to be human in ways almost impossible to conceive, they say. Link To Original Article

I use Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6 and have just downloaded the classic version of Windows Live Hotmail. However, every time I now go into hotmail I have to change the encoding setting, from Unicode (UTF-8) to Western European (Windows) in order to be able to read the pages properly. Ticking Auto select makes no difference. I also have to do this when I move from one folder to the next. Any ideas? -- Caroline -- Caroline

Hi, I installed a modem in my dell 410 and downloaded the vista drivers from usRobotics. At start up, window security blocks the exe. programs from loading until I okay them to run. Vista does this eveytime at start-up. Does anyone know how identify these to windows security as being okay? Also, after I get by windows security, user acct. control stops the drivers from loading and asks for the admin. to okay the drivers loading. How can I get the modem drivers to load without all the hassle. Thanks, Terry

hello my laptop now doesn't notify me anymore about the state of the battery, both when it's critical or low. i already checked my power options advanced power setting, and ensure that the low battery notification is switched on, but the notification's still not working. can anyone suggest what should i do to make it notify me again? because it's annoying when my laptop suddenly hibernates without any warning. thank you.
