Every time I manually start up any program my computer starts loading, in many cases it will do so for many minutes. During this time you are unable to do anything but waiting. This occured after an automatic update from windowsupdate of: Validationtool Windows Genuine Advantage (KB892130) and Update for Windows XP (KB936021). I am currectly running Windows XP Home Edition. Any help would be appreciated.

I did have a problem installing this update but I have now managed to get it to install after recreating all my moved 'c:\users' folders as described in other earlier threads. Obviously I now what to confirm that it was actually installed correctly. However, when I look at the list of file names & versions listed for the update in the KB article to confirm it was installed correctly I get confused! Taking a look at the first file on the list 'Aithui.dll': ....in my system32 folder I get v6.0.6000.16513 which doesn't seem to be the one mentioned in the KB article. However I do have the correct version listed in: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Do…

After an auto update from MS my PC started to act up. When I rebooted I get a message stating that it was unable to load Library wxfw.dll. and then error code: 126. Atleast 1/2 or more of my desk top shortcuts are missing as well as there are no programs listed when I click on the "All Programs" in the start menu... I've tried to restore to an earlier date but it will not let me, Only says restoration incomplete, no changes made to your PC. Somebody please help me out here. :-) -- "There is no right way to do a wrong deed..."

Hi, How do I create an account for use by another PC on a home network? We have XP Pro, XP Home, and Vista Premium PCs that need to read from and write to files on other PCs. Currently, I get privilege violations when I try to read on some folders and can read some folders but not write to them. Sharing appears to be set up the same on all folders. (Privileges and user accounts differ. Not sure why.) As I understand it I need an user account to set privileges for access over the home network. Gary

Is it possible to change the default folder icon from the Vista vertical style to the traditional XP horizontal style? I realize one can change the icon for individual folders, but is there a way to edit the registry to change the icon default? Thanks in advance. Gary

Problem I used to be able to display an Email, select 'Forward', then add to the upper part of the Email, and send. I now get an MS error message, and Outlook Express 6 gets 'cancelled' (the screen clears to the desktop). Previous Operating systems/or Outlooks I was able to find an entry in Control Panel, Add/Remove, Select the outlook express, click remove, then got a choice Remove or Repair. Present System I cannot find an entry in Add/Remove that will let me do this. Can you suggest how I should proceed. Please

nor can I even boot if the card is installed (the first item on the boot list in CMOS is the hard drive, followed by the DVD drive). I wanted the 2 GB card for Readyboost use. A 1 GB micro SD card works fine, as does a 1 GB SD card. IF i boot windows and then pop in the 2 GB card, explorer won't show it, nor does the dialog box pop up for what action to take. The only visual item that indicates a device has been installed is the Safely Remove Hardware icon. I have another laptop which works fine with the 2 GB cards. BTW, I tried 2 2GB cards, in case one was faulty. Both 2 GB cards work fine elsewhere. Anyone ever heard of this issue? Dunno if its…

I don't think there's any silver bullet out there, but I thought I'd ask.... My WD2500 gets a "pass" on the quick data lifeguard diagnostics, reports as healthy by the OS (XP), has the correct size, but it's blank where it should say "NTFS". And chkdsk returns the "unable to determine volume..." message. I'm trying not to reformat and loose the data. After reading quite a few usenet posts like mine, I see a few "you might try software X", but no one is saying "software X worked for me", which is why I think I might be hosed. But if someone has an approach to get the data back, I'd like to hear it. Thanks. --Dale-- PS: Here are the symptoms I saw th…

I had to reinstall my Windows XP recently due to a critical malfunction. The reinstalled XP was activated without any trouble. But attempt to activate the reinstalled Office 2003, by internet, failed with an error mesage saying that maximum number of activation has been done! This may indeed be the case, but it never occurred to me that reactivation would be difficult on the same machine. I then tried telephone activation. Now, I was given a set of two 11-digit numbers, which obviously did not match the set of nine 6-digit numbers required by the Activation Wizard. I was therefore left quite confused! To complicate matters, I have not backed up the entire syste…
