I think the software has been corrupted for my XP CD burner support. It may have been corrupted when I had to uninstall the latest Internet Explorer & back up to an older system restore point. I can set up files to burn to the drive and I get the "files are ready to be wriiten to CD" message but when I click on the drive's "Write these files to CD" option it doesn't recognize that I have a blank CD in the drive. I can read CDs & DVDs with this drive and the blank CDs work in another computer. Another symptom of the possible corruption is that the CD drive Properties Menu has learned Italian. The Recording, Autoplay, Hardware & Sharing (The Enable…

Hello, Ever since I switched to Vista I am having a problem when opening files. If I select, for example, 5 MSWord files, right click, open, the files will open in 5 separate instances of MSWord instead of opening 1 instance of MSWord with 5 windows. This is the same for Excel, PaintShop and any other files that I try to open more than 1 at a time of the same file type. Can anybody tell me how to set Vista to open multiple files of the same type in 1 instance of the appropriate program? Thank you in advance for any help! Best Regards, Ben

I have posted some problems i am having with my HP Pavilion Media Center m7763w (Vista Home Premium, AMD 64 live +4600, 2GB RAM, 400GB HD, etc), regarding the TV card (it is a Hauppauge HVR-1600): 1) MC does not recognize it, then every time I turn on my computer I must to restart the service (Windows Media Center ...) in the Administrator option. All I have tried did not initialize it automatically. Doing this the MC works. 2) FM is ok, but the broadcasting TV shows a line horizontally below of mid screen. All drivers are updated (video and HVR-1600 cards)! I guess it could be a compatible problem, like a PAL-M incompatible system. I was not able t…

Hi, My installation of vista 32-bit still fails without erroring (ie just doesnt copy/move the file, and no error is presented) when copying/moving files over the network. I have applied to "performance and reliability" updates and the "copying large files over the network" patches (931770, 938194, 938979) - but to no avail. Does anone have other suggestions of what may fix this?

I'm hoping someone can help. We have a relatively new computer with Vista. Old computer had XP. Additionally, we utilize Maxtor Personal Storage 3100 for an external drive. We figured this would be an easy way to transfer data files from old to new. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case - at least not yet. New computer recognizes external drive BUT it doesn't display any files or folders that were created / modified after 2005. Odd that it shows everything from 2003 - 205. Went back to the old computer and everything displays as expected. Obviously, this seriously impacts the ability to transfer data files. I've been trying everything I can think of - and s…

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501, AMD 3500, 1.8 GHz, 446MB memory laptop running Windows Vista Home edition. Every time I get a hyperlinked email using Outlook 2003, the browser (IE7) open to a hanging blank page, and nothing happens. I have searched these Treads and the Internet for a solution to this problem. I have use various suggestions posted without any luck. I had tried: Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types. However, there is no “File Types†tab in Vista. I have also tried the Control Panel, but after making the association using the default programs, it did not worked. I also tried running regsvr32 urlmon.dll …

I want to record a voice wav file. Using XP I've plugged in a USB Logitech Microphone. I think the new hardware has been recognized. But when I go to Start - All Prog - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound Recorder and the recorder appears, it's missing the lower portion where the control panel and record button (red) should appear. Clicking on New does not bring up the controls and the red control button. Help! L

Hi there I am having a problem with the playback of system sounds and also sounds from the internet such as embeded music and video. The problem only started a few day ago and there was now definite cause. Music and video play normally through all other programs such as media center. I have updated all audio drivers and also uninstalled cleaned and reinstalled them. The correct audio device is set as default and all volumes are set to an acceptable level. The OS is Vista Home Premium. Thank you

Win XP Home + SP2 + updates In a limited user account, no recently used program is ever listed. (The admin account does not have this problem.) Right click Start. Click Properties. Start Menu tab. Click Customize. "Number of programs on Start menu: 9". But it never shows any, let alone 9. What do I do to make it show recently used apps? Thanks.

i read through all the previous posts and tried all of the suggestions. my only problem is that my computer will not allow me to change to run as an administrator. the check box and wording is gray to where choosing it is not an option. i also cannot pull up internet options. i get a box saying "C:\Windows\system32\ADVPACK.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error.", thus i cannot delete my temp internet files and my defrag won't work. i'm thinking my computer has some serious windows issues at this time. if anyone can help me figure out how to fix at least one problem, i would be grateful! thanks!

Hello! As things stand, I can watch TV on the snazzy Media Center, but I cannot change the channels with the MC channel guide, or with the MC remote. Despite wading through the set-up a bajillion times, in every possible permutation... nope. Can't change the channels other than using the Comcast STB remote to change the channels on the STB... that is, I use the Comcast remote and STB's guide, and bypass the MC channel guide/remote entirely... which is a drag, and not what I want to do, clearly. So the channel I'm watching, and the channel the MC guide says I'm watching have nothing to do with each other. I can change the MC guide to any channel, but it …

Since installing the Service Pack 2 Update, I have been unable to connect to my wireless router when it is secure. I obviously have the WEP key, but Windows refuses to communicate with the router. When I turn disable the security, I am able to connect just fine. I still have this problem when I turn the windows firewall off. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks.

I have automatic updates turned on and set to install the updates early in the morning. Automatic updates checks for updates every hour and this tends to slow down my computer. I would like to change this so that automatic update checks for updates once a day which is really all that is needed since I only install the updates once a day.

I have Windows Vista Starter Edition and trying to configure a Internet Connection thrue Wi-Fi USB adapter (with vista driver), the only way that I can get access to INternet is configure the Wi-Fi as open If I try to configure the encription with WEP or WAP or someting else, I can not make it. Using my laptop with Windows XP Pro I can configure the Wi-Fi with WEP or WAP encryption without problem. The Question is, Is this an issue with Vista Starter Edition? or a General issue with Vista? Does any one else had or have this issue? Thanks and Regards
