I have created a real problem for myself. I was moving a 4Gb folder to a remote PC and in the process of doing other things I forgot the folder was moving. I then held down the power button to force a shutdown due to another issue I was having. Of course I realized afterwards what I had done. When I restarted my laptop the folder was no longer there and it wasn't on the remote machine either. The files are still using up 4Gb of space on my hard drive but i have no way to retrieve them. Even file recovery software doesn't seem to find them, maybe because they are still being read somehow (used space). Either way I need to know how that I may eiteher delete these fi…

I noticed that recently windows will not ask to save passwords to new accounts. I have my internet options set to save them, but they won't fill in existing ones either.

About 1/3 of the time, the same icons don't show up on the taskbar. Reboots usually fix them immediately but still, next reboot, they may be gone. They show fine in startup and show up in task manager and their programs work. I just can't seem to keep them where they belong. I've also tried setting them so they don't auto hide which doesn't do anything. Any ideas? thanks

I'm usaing a Windows 2003 server SP2 as my print server for over 20 printers. Everything was going fine until today when my HP Color 4550n printer is showing that it is Offline even though the printer says that it it s ready. I can ping the IP address to the printer, my MAC users can print to it but my PC users cannot. I even changed the IP address and it still says that it is Offline. What can I do to bring this back online - not sure if this is a network issue or not? I did just install SP2 on this server over the weekend with no issues.

Anyone know of a decent website that outlines how to create basic performance monitor alerts via email? I'd like to be notified when the total processor time on my DC is above x% or available disk space on my Exchange box is getting low. That kind of thing. Doesn't have to be anything fancy. Thanks, JM

I've tried on several different websites to download files, one of which was a Microsoft download to try and fix an error with installing an update. It doesn't matter if I select to open or save the file - If I select open nothing happens, if I select save - it acts as if it is downloading but when I view the folder I saved the file in (and I've tried different locations) there is nothing there. Anyone have any clues as to what is going on? -- Theresa

I've just had to change my printer from a D68 to a D92. All works fine and I'm sharing it OK but when my son who is running Vista prints anything, the status monitor appears fine and shows the ink levels but then Vista compains it's not responding even though it's printing fine? Cancelling the message only causes it to repeat over and over again!! Daughter running XP Media Centre on a laptop is fine and my PC running Vista is also fine. So why does Vista complain when it uses a network shared Epson D92 printer? The message actually says the Epson Status Monitor 3 is not responding. cheers, Len

Hi friends! My computer was working fine but I need to replace the motherboard. I´ve tried to delete and copy from other computer the folder \system32\drivers\etc to overwrite Hosts and other related files, without sucess. ipconfig /flushdns --> no effect removing network dr…

I have a pc with Vista Ultimate that will no longer allow connection via Remote Desktop (using small bus server). The message I get says: Connectivity to the remote computer could not be established. Ensure the remote computer is on and connected to the Windows SBS network. It is connected. This worked fine up until about 2 weeks ago. Was there an Windows Update that broke this? Any ideas? -- Thanks, Joel WZ ___________________

Hello, I use NTbackup to backup my files and system state on the server I have at my home. I do a monthly normal backup to a file on an external hard disk connected to the server via usb. As any good server admin does I wanted to test that my backups were good so if my server ever caught on fire and I lost everything I would be fine. I downloaded Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and installed w2k3. Once installed I brought the server up to the current patch level via windows update. Next I connected the usb hard drive to the virtual server and tried to do a restore. When I tried to open the backup file on the external hard disk I recieved this error "the back…

Looks like a bunch of transparencies layered on top of each other...any help or suggestions of what might be causing this would be great... thanks
