Hi, During the attempted Setup for Fax in XP pro SP2 the i386 folder that was prompted for, is missing. Neither the XP pro SP2 installation disk has it, which was suggested to use. However, I'd have access to XP SP2 Home i386 folder and it's files in it At where earlier the Fax Service setup was a success. Should/could I use these files for the Fax Service installation at the XP pro SP2? Thanks sjb

I am having problems ONLY with PDF files not being recognized by Briefcase, and not ALL PDF files; only some. It seems as though they are somehow flagged as 'do not include'. I get no errors or prompts, they just don't go... I posted here because XP is what I'm running on all my machines (3) and they all exhibit this peculiar behavior. I can provide copies of those files that work and those that don't... -- Bob H.

Hi all, I have continuous errors showing in the event logs on both our new server Win 2003 SBS, and all Win XP Pro desktops/laptops on the domain. From reviewing another posting and link listed below, I have noted that the syncing of system time apparently does not work on domains. http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support/browse_thread/thread/a047572a1a85b146/92693d77d9b13829?lnk=st&q=&rnum=1&hl=en#92693d77d9b13829 Is there anything I can do to stop these errors coming up in the system event logs for all computers on the domain? (eg a way to turn off the computers even looking for the service, not sure that ju…

Can anyone help me here? I have a DLink DNS 323 network storage server, connected over a local LAN (Linksys WRT54G router). The server maps to a local drive letter, and I can transfer files like lightning. However, if I drag the same bunch of files over to the FTP site that points to this server, it takes around 20 times as long - about 90 seconds to transfer 48MB (0.5 MB per second). Are FTP servers inherrently slow? I have checked that there is no band- width limit on the server setup. Thanks! Dean

Is anyone familiar with this adsl modem/router and it's NAT, ...and other settings. It's being distributed by TalkTalk ISP here in the UK. http://www.huawei.com/products/terminal/products/view.do?id=121&pageId=121_0 I rummaged through, and checked it's settings as best I could and NAT is on but, the rest of the settings look nothing like I've ever seen before, ...well I recognized most of them :-( Using Steve Gibsons port probing job at http://www.grc.com/default.htm the machine to which the above mentioned modem/router is connected got a "failed" on his Common Ports check. The results screen for the check on the common service ports responded with lots…

Dated Sept 7th., Microsoft released an update to its DirectX user runtimes. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=CB7397F3-0949-487B-9247-8FEE451BF952&displaylang=en This update is usually not required but, if some naughty game complaints about a missing dll then just go for it and install it. No reboot required. Game manufacturers should supply the updated dll's with their games but from time to time there is one that doesn't. I have found 2 cases so far and I am not an intensive gamer. Just a 60 megs download. Compatible with your favourite x64 Operating Systems. Carlos

Hello Forum! Help Please! - The voices of TV images are not synchronized with each other resulting in a few seconds of delay, and reading their lips really fouls it up. I do not know whether it is an operating system (Windows XP Home) problem or a TV Tuner card (ATI TV Wonder Pro PCI) problem, but suspect it is the former. It did happen once before long ago (before SP1 or SP2 upgrades) if I recall accurately, and it worked itself out somehow. I had no part in fixing the problem then, so the fix must have considered me part of the problem rather than part of the solution. I have updated my ATI drivers and my Creative Technology Live! sound card drivers in ca…

This post is based on information from my posts of the same name in the newsgroup 'microsoft.public.windowsupdate'. If you have any problems installing updates for Windows Vista then you can try activating the main Administrator account in Vista and running Windows Update from there. Note that the main Administrator account is not the same as a standard account with elevated privileges - it is a completely separate account which is normally hidden. I am not sure why this works - it could be that the main Administrator account allows updates to write to areas of the operating system that are inaccessible to standard accounts. Please see below for instruc…

Hi all, could anyone help me to understand the dns lookup sequence on xp? I have three dns server setup, while all three are up and functional all three get hit 'randomly'. In the old days, workstation always hit the first dns server. Only if the first does not response then goto second or third dns server. But I don't think XP works that way anymore. Any help is apreciated.

When I use the "new connection wizard" in XP I choose VPN, I put in the IP address and it works fine. It's pptp. I do this in Vista and nothing at all. It just sits there saying: Connecting to 91.97.93.154 No firewall is on Vista currently. Any ideas?

The "Windows Features" dialog box is empty in Windows Vista Premium Home Edition when I click Turn Windows Features on or off. I looked at article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931712 but my computer does not recognize reg delete HKLM\COMPONENTS /v StoreDirty. The reason I need to use the Windows Features is because I need to hook my laptop up to my college's downstairs cluster.

Good evening: I'm having a problem in my PC that is being registed by "Event Viewer" in this terms: "The Cardex service failed to start due to the following error: Cannot create a file when that file already exists. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp." This error had the following Event ID: 7000 This error hapend in my PC since 21 July but I'd never had any type of problems that can be caused by that. I'd only view this error then I'm searchig for another problem in the "Event Viewer". Thank you for your help. Regards. Pedro C.

In my case when I click on start computer it always defaulted to the "tiles view" no matter what view I set which is mediums icons. To fix this try:change view to what you prefer then Now when you go to close this window do this: Hold down the Ctrl (Control) key and while still holding it down, use the mouse to click on the X to close the window. This is telling Explorer to save the settings of this window. This solved my problem. Hope this helps others....
