I am having a problem using a shared printer connected to a Vista PC. I have 2 XP system on the same network. One of them uses the shared printer with no problem. The other sends the file to the printer but it sits there in "Printing" status until I restart the Vista PC. As soon as that PC gets to the point where it asks me which user wants to signon it prints the file. Any files sent to that printer after the one form the problem PC also don't print until that point. Anyone know a reason why this happens and how to correct it. Thanks,

I have exactly the same problem where I cannot install, update or deinstall anything which uses the Windows Installer ( cannot even update Windows itself...). If a program or a game is updating through its own system (like Nod32) it updates perfectly. If I try to deinstall those programs in belief that I can update them by downloading the newest available software, it says there is an error in Windows Installer and that I need to contact further customer support (which I have done now thrice in vain). I have so far downloaded 2 different Windows Installer versions and over three different Windows XP patches and updates either related to XP Home Edition …

Earlier this week, Advanced Micro Devices finally introduced the first true quad-core microprocessor in the PC market, code-named "Barcelona" and launched as part of AMD's Opteron line. David Kanter provided an excellent technical analysis of Barcelona on his Real World Technologies site. At the Barcelona launch, AMD played up its statistics on integer performance. (Credit: Tom Krazit/CNET Networks) Barcelona is not the absolutely fastest processor on the market. For single-core performance, both IBM and Intel offer faster chips. With multiple cores working, Intel and Sun can claim higher performance per socket--Intel because it can put two high-frequency dual-…

Hey everybody, I've been noticing some annoying behaviour on our Windows XP clients recently. They all seem to be continually updating the drivers for our network printers. The event ID in the System log is '20; and the Source is 'Print'. We have a mixture of HP printers and Canon printer/copiers. I did a search on eventid.net but the advice there doesn't seem to apply. We run a 2003 AD environment and all clients are XP SP2 and are more or less up to date patch wise. Network printers are added at logon via a vb logon script. If anyone can offer some advice or pointers then I would greatly appreciate it. Best wishes, Steven.

Dear all, I am troubleshooting an server with high nonpaged memory pool usage. It is an HP Proliant DL380 G5 server with 4 GB of physical RAM. I am running the Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, therefore I am have to run under /3GB boot.ini switch. So I am limited do ~125 MB of nonpaged memory pool maximum. I am running at about 105 MB of used nonpaged memory pool, I worry about the stability. When I start the PoolMon, it shows that 40 MB of nonpaged pool is using the MmCm tag, which belongs to the nt!mm driver and "Calls made to MmAllocateContiguousMemory". This is the biggest usage, all others are about 1-2 MB. How can I determine, which driver(s) is allocat…
