I'm having an irritating problem where my computer locks-up during a Firefox session; mouse is locked, keyboard unresponsive (ctrl-alt-del does nothing) and I have to hit reset. Thought it was a video driver problem - I installed the latest driver but it's still happening. It could be a Firefox bug and I may try reinstalling it. I noticed when I inserted a DVD both the DVD-writer and HD lights came on for a few seconds. I tried inserting the WinXP install disk, the lights flashed but nothing happened. My question: Is there a way to create a CD/DVD that would force the system to bring up the task manager, or reboot the system, without having to hit reset? -- B…

OS Windows XP Pro, SP2. Unintentionally I installed the East Asian Fonts on my PC and now when I am in some of my graphic programmes choosing a font to use, when I stand on one of these fonts it causes my pc to freeze and I have to go out of the programme I am in. When I look at these fonts through a font viewer I see that they have a @ sign in front of their name? I would like to uninstall/delete these fonts but haven't found a way to do so since they don't appear in the Windows Font file. Can anybody help me here, it's driving me crazy? Thanks so much.

I have been used the normal windows update site located at http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us to update my Windows XP Professional SP2 and noticed that even on a clean DSL link that is normally around 1.6 mbps, that this takes about 3-4 mins just to let me know if any updates are available. Is this normal these days ? Seemed that it was far faster before. Time does not seem to vary based on time of day or amount of updates that it has. Thanks !

Apparently I, logged in as administrator don't have the authority to copy and paste files from one hard drive to another locally on my computer. I have a dual boot system with vista home premium 64 on c: and xp home on E: and I use D: for data files. I have 3 wd raptors in a raid 0 array partitioned roughly in half with vista on one and xp on the other and a separate hd for the data. Vista bsod'd and crashed and corrupted ntldr and xp will no longer boot up. I had my email set up on xp. Lots of email. From vista I tried to copy and paste the email data from where it is stored on the partition with xp on it to my data drive to no avail. PERMISSION DENIED.…

I have brand new Laptop with Vista. My Office 2K Professional does not run on Vista so I bought Home and Student Office for our PC's on our home intranet. So, I have no Outlook, but others still have Ourlook 2000. I can not afford to buy the latest Outlook for all. I have Windows Calender and latest version of MS Works Calendar that came with laptop. When you export or publish, both give the option of using the iCalendar (.ics) format. However if you try to import iCalendar from each other the Import Result error of "could not import calendar" message comes up referring to file versions, etc.. I opened both export .ics files using notepad from each app…

I am running Home Premium as a Standard User, and have set Windows Update to "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" I have found that Windows Update does automatically check for updates, but it doesn't notify me of new updates as it does when I am logged in as an Administrator. I would like to know if this behavior is by design, and if not, what do I need to do to get it to work correctly.

Hi All, I have a customer with XP-Pro,sp2 that gets a print spooler error and looses all her printers from her control panel, printers window. To fix her problem, I erased all the files (they were considerable) from her C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS directory. Then, restarted the print spooler in services. Problem: worked from two days, now she is back to her spooler errors again. (Sorry, I don't remember the error, just that it was something about the print spooler being crashed.) Anyone have any suggestions as to how to permanently fix her problem? I was thinking of erasing her spool cache again and reinstalling here print driver. Any o…
