We have an IE7 only environment, all PCs running Windows XP Professional, all servers running Windows 2003 Server. When I use IE7 to configure our list of Local Intranet sites in a GPO (ref: User Configuration, Windows Settings, Internet Explorer Maintenance, Security, Security Zones and Content Ratings) the group policy editor can no longer display a report in the Settings tab and fails with the following error message: "An error occurred while generating report: An unknown error occurred while the HTML report was being generated." If I turn off the Security settings for IE within the GPO then the problem goes away. When I turn them back on again, the pr…

I keep getting a BSOD on startup and cannot read the message before the system restarts. My F8 advanced options menu does not include " Disable Automatic Restart", and I can not load "Safe Mode" , or "Safe Mode With Conmmand Prompt" or Normal startup. Is there another way to disable automatic restart? or is there another way to find the error code?

1. Emachines T5224 Vista Home premium installed on the machine when I bought it from store 2. Installed Toshiba USB external backup harddrive 3. The Toshiba backup software allowed me to make my backup files. 4. Then I deleted files under PROGRAM FILES. 5. Then I looked inside the Tosiba software, and the deleted files are still showing up as files I can save! But if I go to my computer's hard drive, I do not see the files there anymore. SO where in the world is the Toshiba software finding these supposedly deleted files? 6. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THESE DELETED FILES AS IT CAUSES CONFUSION. THESE FILES SHOW UP INSIDE THE TOSHIBA BACKUP SW EVEN WHEN I…

I tried to create a .pdf file and save it to the desktop in VISTA. That wasn't a good idea, now it keeps popping up telling me that Interactive Services Dialog Detection needs to show me a message. When I click to show the message it is the same save file window for the .pdf operation. If you cancel it shuts the window and returns to windows. If I select a folder and name for the file and click to save it, it shuts the window and returns to windows. Within 5 minutes the same ISDD window comes up again. Can this be shut off or stopped?

Is like flushing your head down the toilet. DO NOT DO IT.. Just because some blowhards do it here (We know who they are). DON'T DO IT. Install Ubuntu instead. Just FYI

I've been reading many of the posts regarding Vista's default folder views and icon troubles and I've not seen one that quite addresses my problem. Out of the box (new laptop), I fiddled with these folders like any veteran XP user, much to my dismay. What I've wound up with is this: There is an icon on my wife's desktop called Wife. (I'm assuming, like a moron, that this equals XP's My Documents folder). If I open it, it displays everything in C:\User\Wife. However, it includes two folders called Music. Both contain exactly the same thing (inclucing 14GB worth of iTunes music I can't afford that much HDD space). Two things I can't figure out are: 1) if I n…

When I print the monthly calendar from Windows Calendar, the times of my appointments do not print. Any ideas? It would be nice to know if my haircut is at 5 p.m. or 9 a.m. -- and unfortunately my memory isn't what it used to be!

Hello everyone. . . . I am really lost here. I already searched the entire internet but i couldnt find a solution. Maybe you can help me. I want to install the two OS on one HDD, which i partitioned already into 50/50 for XP and Vista. I took easy path and installed windows xp Professional (32bit) first. It runs fine. Now i wanted to install vista x64 on the other partition (on the same drive). The install works fine, all drives are detected and the files are copied. Then vista tells me that it needs to reboot (10secs). However then, it just starts XP. No boot-manager shows up. I already tried to point my boot.ini in xp to the 2nd partition on my drive…

I have a 15mbit cable line and 4 boxes on my home network. 3 wireless and one wired. My two XP boxes (1 pro and 1 home are running at about 12mbit down and 1mbit up. My Suse linux box is screaming along at about 14mbit/1mbit. My sons brand new laptop chugs along between 6mbit and 8mbit / 600kbps down running vista home premium. Seems to slow down the longer it is connected. The funny thing is that the other boxes dont even come close to the specs of this Vista lappy. I am beginning to think I would be better of scrapping Vista and either going with XP PRO or Some linux distro. What should I be checking to increase the internet speed with Vista?? …

I'm a web developer, and in the last month I've noticed gradual slowness in FTP connections to a couple of different w2k3 servers turn into a totally crippling inability to connect. While I have no problem whatsoever FTPing to a number of other servers -- including what is, I think, a W2k3 server running a third-party FTP server software -- these three Windows servers have a lot of trouble keeping a persistent connection. I get lots of PORT errors, listing errors, and the logs also show a lots of disconnects and reconnects. Is this an issue that's arisen because of a Windows update? Or some other factor that would hit three otherwise unrelated servers all at …

I have Vista Ultimate and am connected to Windows Small Business Server 2003 through a domain. I have two computers that this same issue is happening on. Both computers are identical. When I begin windows, the sidebar does not load properly. The space where the sidebar should be is slightly blurry and the plus symbol and left and right arrows at the top appear. After giving it a few seconds, I try to click on the sidebar and it says that the program is not responding and if I want to wait or close it. If I close it and try to reopen it, it does the same thing. In addition, Microsoft Word will not load on either computer. Excel works fine. Outlook …

Hi all, as the subject states...... I run Vista Ultimate x64 on my 4GB, Opteron185 (CnQ enabled) DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D system with a 8800GTX in it. All works great. I've applied all the interesting hotfixes, run the most current NVidia drivers for the chipset, sata, stuff and 8800GTX. Games and well, everything fly on this system, it's quiet and cool due to my CM Stacker case with loads of fans and CnQ. I'm very pleased with Vista...... except for one thing:) I can't use the Sleep function of Vista. When the system goed into Sleep mode the screen turns black, the power led blinks and my 8800GTX starts beeping. The beeping never stops, I can't g…

Hey I have 2 computers in my home network, one pc is a winXPpro+sp2, the other is a win2k3 machine on the win2k3 machine I've created a NFS share, using fs.msc.... The problem is that I'm unable to connect to this share from the winXP machine.... well, if I turn off firewall on both machines I'm able to connect, so I guess it is a firewall issue win2k3 machine is domain controller in this network, Active Directory installed These are the ports I've opened in win2k3 Windows FireWall: 111 - both TCP and UDP 1039 - both TCP and UDP 1047 - both TCP and UDP 1048 - both TCP and UDP 2049 - both TCP and UDP Haven't enabled the "File and printer share" on …
