my laptop running xppro with 2gig of memory and a way fast cpu runs very well and response in most all programs is instanteous. However when I am trying to save as or doing an insert file dialog it is oh sooo slow. For instance, save as always defaults to My Documents which comes up immediately. But when I hit the dropdown, to show the drives, it sometimes takes more than 30 seconds. Then when I double click on a directory, it might take another 30 seconds. What can I do to fix this? -- Regards, Gary Blakely Dean Blakely & Associates http://www.deanblakely.com

I noticed when installing remote access clients for BackupExec 9.1 that on one of my domain controllers the System State was listed separately within the file structure and on the other it was listed within the Shadow Copy Components. Both DCs are running WinServer2003 SP2. The only difference is that one of the servers is the Global Catalog (the one on which the system state is listed separately). Shadow copy is disabled on both systems. How should the directory structure properly appear? -- "I enjoyed my youth so much that I decided to bring it along with me." -G.C.

I need to be able to track all RDC connections to our Windows 2003 servers. I've been trying to find a way to narrow down an event log -ID- that will allow me to do that. I've tried Security - information - 552, which gives me what I need -connection/time/userID/source workstation , but it also reports a lot of system acitivty. We have Vendors with access, but need to document all of their connections. Is anyone currently doing this or anything similar, by filtering the event logs? If so can you tell me what log IDs you're having success with. We do have a server monitoring software - but it has limited filtering capabilites. Log- source - category and Event…

How can i determine a user's last logoff time? I can use the Shell command - Net User UserID \domain - to see when the last login time was, but what about log off time? Also, Net User only seems to be able to find user's when they are actually logged onto the domain.

this is the weirdest problem i've ever seen. We have a user who's first print job from her RDC session always hangs every day. Then when she logs off the server and back on to clear her virtual print queue mapped to the network printer installed on her local computer, she can then print. I've tried deleting her profile from the server, reinstalling the printer on her local computer, no such luck. Any ideas of what could I could possibly try next???? She use mstsc to connect to the 2000 SP4 server. Even cancelling the job in her virtual print queue doesn't work, it just sits at Deleting forever until she logs off. Is there some sort of logging I can …

Hi, I have a user with Vista Ultimate with all patches. If Free Cell is open in the background, the computer sometimes enters hibernation. If she is playing Free Cell (while on hold, waiting for a client download, etc.) hibernation may occur in the midst of the Free Cell activity. Apart from this, the patches have resolved the other hibernation issues she was seeing. Can anyone help? Thanks. -- 0pter0n 1944

  23. Office 2007 (Credit: news.com) Quite a bit of talk has arisen today over two of Microsoft's competitors (Google and IBM) offering free office suites in an attempt to supplant Microsoft as the office king. And now that this is happened, some are wondering if Microsoft will finally face reality and offer its own Office product for free so it can compete.
