I am trying to put a video in my website as a 9/11 memorial that I want to publish on this upcoming 9/11. When I preview the video in a browser, I can view it in Internet Explorer 7.0, but not only can't it play in FireFox 2.3, I can't even see the Windows Media Player interface. Does anyone know how I can get the video to play in both browsers? Thanks for any help. I'd like this done by Tuesday afternoon at the latest EST. Thanks

I have a Dell XPS 410 Desktop with Vista Home Premium. If I try to use Windows Update, Dells Update, or Microsoft Update I get an error that the file does not have an association set for it. I have installed a REGistry Fix to restore the registry and the exe shows to have an association set to it (msapps/wupdate or something like that) but I am still unable to update and get the same error. If I go to Microsofts update page the error still pops up. Any one have any ideas???

Feedback Wanted - Remotely Administering Windows Server 2008 DNS from Windows XP and Windows Server

Problem Statement: An interoperability bug in the current release of Windows Server 2008 prevents Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 computers from remotely administering Windows Server 2008 MS DNS Servers via DNSCMD, DNSMGMT.MSC or by using WMI. Specifically, attempts to remotely administer Windows Server 2008 MS DNS Servers from a pre-Vista client will fail with the error "access denied" when the 2008 MS DNS Server is referenced by its single-label hostname or short name. The administration of Windows Server 2003 MS DNS Servers from Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 computers is not impacted. Two workarounds exist for this condition 1. …

How does WDS display the pathname (location on windows explorer) column. When I right-click on the header row that is NOT one of the selectable columns. Seems that would be one of the most important. There are many selectable columns but not that. Am I overlooking something.

Creating very restrictive group policy for select users
by Guest mike- 0 replies

Hi, I'm trying to create a group policy that restricts all access on a domain machine with the exception of a few key applications, and I'm having trouble restricting access to the command shell (cmd.exe) as well as My Computer (to prevent file browsing). I've managed to remove all the icons I want from the Start Menu and network access is already limited as much as I want, but when it comes to really 'locking down' the machine for a very specific use I can't figure out where in group policy I need to make some changes. Does anyone know of some good references to use in creating a group policy like this? Is there an index out there that shows where i…

This one is baffling me. We have a fresh install of Server 2003 Enterprise edition with SP2 IE6 and cannot get a single web page to load. The Server has valid IP info and can get responses from websites via pings at the command prompt, so we know DNS and name resoluition is working. However you cann't access any page via its name or ip address in internet explorer. Just for kicks, I put the exact IP info into another server plugged into the same switch port, runniing win 2000 server and it connected to public web pages fine. Any ideas???? Is there a security setting in Server 2003 enterprise or IE that could be blocking me? Dave MCSA…

Running a Japanese program on a English version of XP

Hi, I've have been trying to install a Japanese game on my PC. Almost the whole installation goes without problems until the installer tries to read an .txt file which is in Japanese and Windows can't read it so I have to abort the installation. I've installed the files for East Asian languages. The thing is I still can't read the .txt (it does in Word), also there is a guy in my MSN list which has Japanese kanji in his name which I don't see 9.5 out of 10 times. When I try to select 'Japanese' as language for non-unicode programs I get the error "Setup was unable to install the chosen locale. Please contact your system administrator". I'm the admin on…

Disk Mgr and pagefile

Hi , I usually have a dedicated drive for my pagefile. So I have Windows installed on C: with the recommended minimum (2048) pagefile on C: ( for system dump) and then I specify to have another pagefile on Drive E: (windows managed) I have seen when using the Disk Mgr snap in that on one drive E: actually says "pagefile" on it and on another server it does not it just says "E: basic healthy" So my question is ......IF I am doing pretty much the same setup on multiple servers......what makes Disk Manager actually tag one physical disk as "pagefile" and othe server setup the same way Diskmanager just says the drive is healthy ??

Server will not boot after Driver Verifier enabled
by Guest David V- 0 replies
We were testing our internal software on a new server due to go live within a few weeks, when the server failed with a BSOD. A search of the errors online indicated probable driver problems, so I ran verifier.exe, as per KB article 244617. I selected "verify all drivers", which required a reboot. Now the server is stuck in an endless loop of detecting the memory and RAID controllers, prompting for a boot from a backup ROM or PXE, and then shutting down and starting over again. What is going on? Has anybody experienced problems like this with verifier? How do you get around it? Thanks in advance for any help.
