If I try to display the Folders pane from My Computer when logged in as a standard user, it closes down. If I am logged in as an administrator, the Folders pane displays, but flashes as if refreshing very frequently. The cause of the problem seems to be a folder called 'Image Folder'. As an administrator, if I click on this folder, the flashing stops. If logged in as a standard user, the 'Folders' pane is ok if the 'Image Folder' is not visible (for example, if I go in to 'My Documents', the Folders pane is ok until I expand the My Computer node). Any ideas how I can get the folders pane to display properly?

someone said that you have to download the english MUI extra first so you can get the dreamscene (video wallpaper) . Is this true? Because I tried windows update the dreamscene was not available .. although I think it should be... bilocker was there of course as well as the MUI for various languages... I set the computer to install the ENG MUI and left.... normally after it will be installed I should see the dreamscene? right? They said you have to download it only, you dont have to switch the interface to english to get the other Extras... thanks

Hi All, We are using LookupAccountNameW to get first size and later SID for groups where a user is memberof. If user is member of a group(let's call it TestGroup) where 'Pre-Windows 2000' name is different from 'Group Name', then mapping between sids and group's names has became somehow broken. At least LookupAccountNameW cannot any more found appropriate SID even for other groups, for example for group "Domain Users". If I change the name of TestGroup group so that names in 'Pre-Windows 2000' became the same as 'Group Name' mapping works ok for all groups. The same trouble happens if group "Domain Users" is added to "Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access"…

My fax software starts (on boot up) and complains that the (USB) modem is already in use. The hardware / software has worked OK for some time and has only recently shown this error. I am not aware of any hardware / software change (although, obviously, something has changed). I get round the problem by booting up with the USB modem disconnected. When re-connected the fax software recognises it and everything is OK. This is not much of a problem but I would like to be able to avoid this fiddle. Any suggestions please? Thanks. Bill Ridgeway

I am interested in building a new PC and would like to build it on a motherboard that has a TPM 1.2 module so that I can enable BitLocker with a TPM. I am having difficulting identifying desktop motherboards that have onboard TPMs. Can anyone point me to a list of motherboards that have TPMs and are recommended for use with Vista Ultimate? My current PC is built on the ASUS A8V-E Deluxe motherboard. Being familir with ASUS motherboards, I did search the ASUS site and identified some TPM "ready" motherboards, which state that the TPM must be purchased separately. It is not obvious how/where I would be able to purchase the TPM module and how I would ensur…

Can anyone help with the following system error reported in Event Viewer? I am running Windows XP SP2. Windows is not properly loading cdr4_xp.sys which I believe is making my system unstable -- I sometimes get an unexpected Windows stop error, otherwise known as a "blue screen system crash." Even though Windows reports the driver is not loaded, Windows is still able to recognize the CD-ROM device. I already checked to make sure the system file is located in the path "C:\windows\system32\drivers" and it is there and the file is fine (not corrupt and no hidden virus). Microsoft does not have any knowledge base articles about this problem but it is well documen…

A number of times during the day the IUSR_ account locks itself. I'm pretty sure it is related to the password policy that we propagated throughout the domain, requiring password complexity and expiration after 90 days. The day after we applied this policy, Outlook Web Access stopped running and I found, after some searching, that IUSR_ was locked out. Can I just reset that password to whatever I like as long as it matches the password in the Default Site in IIS? Thanks, JM

I'm planning on updating my computer, and want some opinions and/or suggestions. Note that I am an Intel/ATI person, although considering how AMD bought ATI you might be able to convince me to choose nVidia (although I didn't leave Google even though they partnered with AOL <.<). Currently I am on: 2.6 GHz Pentum 4 1.5 GB DDR RAM (I think it's 400 MHz) 256 MB ATI RADEON 9550 AGP video card http://beatme101.com/images/xblade.jpg An old, but still quite good 17 inch Compaq FS740 monitor that maxes at 1280*1024*32@60. I have 3 hard drives, which I plan to transfer to the new rig. They're fast drives (all 7200 RPM), 2 IDE and 1 SATA. ~740 GB (40 + 300…

I know this has nothing to do with Windoze, but I really don't know where to post this. There are two places I frequent that sure could use translate software. One is IJJI.com which is a free online chess game site, and WinMx which is a P2P program. Both have chat features and both attract people from around the world. I can only imagine that as the Internet grows so will the need for a translate one the fly program. I was thinking that Yahoo Messenger or MSN would be a hit for something like this. Thoughts?
