Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium PC: Dell Dimension 8400 I am unable to install the Update for Windows Vista KB939159. The installation fails every time with error code 80070002. I have also tried running the standalone installation file from the Microsoft download centre (Windows6.0-KB939159-x86.msu), but the installation also fails I have tried to solve the error using the below articles, but the first one did not work and the second one I got an error message "access denied" when attempting to run "ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp" http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/c5f4d9e0-3eb6-426b-8118-0cedf489a75f1033.mspx#EQ h…

Hi: To all respective forum readers, please take notice: 1) First of all, my apologies for such a wide off-topic cross- posting. It's unusual, and very frowned upon. But I deem it necessary in lieu of recent events. You can just disregard if you will. 2) There is a user on the net who has impersonated "Don Klipstein", me, as well as other respectable Usenet posters. He/she is using our names, email addresses, and profiles to post nonsense on Usenet newsgroups. This impersonator seems to be located either in Burma or Korea and has the IP address of 208.142.141.177. 3) Doing a WHOIS checkup on 208.142.141.177 locates the source to be in Seoul, Korea: …

Windows Update App (wuapp.exe) shows 0KB and is not valid
by Guest IanBadeer- 0 replies

My computer hadn't updated itself in over two weeks and I started getting suspicious I went and ran windows update only to receive this error. C:\Windows\System32\wuapp.exe is not a valid Win32 application. I went to the folder to discover that the file exists but the file size is 0KB. The date modified is the same as the other files so I'm not sure if it is a hacked file or not. I most likely need to replace the file, but I have not found this error anywhere else on the web, can anyone help me replace the file or fix the issue? Thanks, ~Ian Lincoln, NE Windows Vista Business 32-Bit

Winsock ftp client stopped working
by Guest Dennis- 0 replies
I use Cute ftp (v 2.8 - yes, it's old but it has always worked fine). I was using it this morning - connected to two different sites - ftp'd files and then quit. About 1/2 hour later I tried to re-open it and now I get this "winsock ftp client has stopped working" and the only option I have is to "close program." The error code in the log is 1000 - anyone have any similar experience or know what the solution is to this one? I've had Vista for several months now and have not had a problem with Cute ftp until today (and no updates were installed while I was working this morning so that's not the problem/solution). Please e-mail me at dennish130@verizon.net i…

Vista Resume / Logon Screen
by Guest cummings77@gmail.com- 0 replies

Is there any way to have vista, upon resume, to display all users rather than having to switch users? On my PC I have multiple users and I have it setup so that on resume, the logon screen is displayed. This is what I want, however it only displays the last user (locked) and often my wife simply clicks my Username because it is easier than clicking Switch User, and then her own Username.

Hi, this problem just began for me last night, I didn't notice it at first until I opened up Internet explorer and realized there was no sound from anything. Not from streaming video, clicking buttons, anything. Then I realized I had no sound from my desktop, no sound from error messages, or clicking things. I did though have sound from playing music in Media Player 11. I use Logitech USB headphones, and Dell Speakers with Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card. I have checked for updates, none. Device manager says their working fine. Nothing is muted and the volume level is fine because I can get sound from music and video playing in WMP. Any suggest…

Using WMC with an antenna and cable connection
by Guest tony772- 0 replies
I have a Pinnacle PCTV 800e USB tuner that I'd like to use with WMC. I have both an antenna and cable feed (no set top box, it's straight from the wall) connected to a switch which is then connected to the 800e. So I can get HD stations from the antenna and SD feeds from cable by flipping the switch. My question is, is there any way to manually set up the channels in WMC so that I don't have to re-configure WMC every time I want to switch between an HD station and a SD one?

I keep a small number of short video clips in a file. With thumbnail views, some show a picture from the clip in the thumbnail, some don't. There seems to be no difference in the file types concerned. About half the thumbnails are just black squares. Is there a reason, please?

Hi, I connected a PC from workgroup to a domain. Its a big network and i am sure that there is no problem in the server side as we are using around 1000 PCs in a single domain. Also, the pc i connected in the domain is a new installed windows XP SP2. After connecting to a domain i tried to add a domain user in the administrators group in that PC through Local User and Groups by Right clicking the My Computer and clicking the Manage button. When i opened the Administrators group in the Local User and Groups and clicked add button, it shows only the local PC name in the Locations tab. Idea: Driver Manager inside Task Manager.
by Guest Skybuck Flying- 0 replies

Hello, I think the cpu usage of drivers and the drivers themselfes don't show up in the task manager. So the user is getting only a "half" picture of the system. The idea is to include a driver manager as well which shows all drivers loaded and possibly there cpu and memory, and bandwidth usage and such. Even task manager could be improved by showing bandwidth usage per application ) This would give the user more insight in the system, know what's load and might help to track down bad drivers. Bye, Skybuck.

Vista Home Premium and wireless networking
by Guest Neil Gould- 0 replies

We have more than one wireless access point (WP) in our network. Initially, I set up Vista to use any of them, but after realizing that we had no control over which one it uses on boot-up, I "removed" all but one of the WPs from Vista's list of network connections. At least, I thought I did. For some reason Vista reconnects to a "removed" WP whenever it reboots. * If I disconnect from "removed" WPs, Vista will not re-connect to it. * On boot-up, it reconnects to the "removed" WP. * When an "automatic update" is performed, Vista reconnects to the "removed" WP. I haven't seen anything like this since Windows ME, which I tolerated for a whole week before s…
