I have redirected the My documents folder of all my laptop clients (XP SP2) to a share on 2003 Server. These folders are set up to be available offline. When my laptop users leave the office for longer than a day, the cached copy of the My documents folder disappears. They then cannot see any data. They do connect to the office network over a normal VPN and the folder does try to sync but gets cancelled or fails due to the link. When they get back the office, it syncs up again fine. Does anyone know why the cached copy would disappear? Does it have anything to do with a failed synchronisation attempt? Also, can anyone tell me a recommended setting fo…

The TV signal arrives from a digital set-top box to the PC through an S-Video cable. The Vista Media Center setup wizard recognizes the signal, but there is no option to finish and save the setup without a remote control, which I don't have. Solution?

In searching for the solution to the woes of my USB Mass Storage Devices not being installed, I noticed a great DEAL of people had the problem. So, I'm inclined to spread the solution: 'Vista Driver Problems installing a USB Media Reader - A solution! « Teknobabble’s Weblog' (http://teknobabble.wordpress.com/2007/08/18/vista-driver-problems-installing-a-usb-media-reader-a-solution/) Works great! It seems vista will accidentally remove the driver at times. *shrug* -- Michichael

I have a new computer with Windows Vista and am digitizing audio files from cassette tapes. When adding titles and artists to several files, a number of times now, the computer will start to alphebetize the list before I am finished, then starts to erase all of the data that i have entered. I still have the files though. I reboot the computer, and can then save a few entries, then have to reboot again to save a few more entries. Is There any solution to this kind of problem??

Our original harddrive died and it was replaced, but...when it was replaced, the technician replaced our Windows XP Home Edition with Windows XP Professional (which I hate and wish I could get rid of and reinstall Home Edition if we hadn't lost the Partition drive in the crash) Not only did we lose Photo Impression 4, RecordNow and many other programs, but, we seem to have lost the function where when you open My Documents and you have a webpage saved, it used to show up in Thumbnail view as a small preview of what the page looked like when it was saved. That no longer works, all I see when I open my folder and switch to Thumbnail view is a whole lot of littl…

From a Vista Business system, in Windows Explorer, I want to be able to access shared folders on other systems. I find that I can't do this if Outbound connections are blocked in the Local Security Policy. It seems like it should be enough to set all the exceptions for File and Printer Sharing, but in practice, this doesn't help. Oddly enough, everything works OK if Outbound connections are Not Configured in the Local Security Policy, but Blocked in the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Does the Local Security Policy not allow for exceptions or something? -- Joseph

Hi, I'd like to block, in the GUI of explorer, the ability to delete a subtree in one click. For example if you have a tree Root |_dir1 |_dir2 Suppose dir1 and dir2 each have a few documents in each. I want the user to be able to delete the documents in dir1 and dir2 one-by-one or even by using Select All and delete but they should not be able to right click the Root, or dir1 or dir2 and delete the entire Subtree of Root or even dir1's and dir2's subtree. I tried to do this by giving Modify rights Applied Onto Files Only at Root (perms adavnce dialog)--and Read/Write on subfolders. But what happened is: you *can* right click Root and choose Del…

I have a folder on many PC's located here... \\do010201\c$\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Application Data\PCHealth\ErrorRep\qsignoff. Permissions is QSignoff has Administrator and System with full control. Nobody else is listed. So any user with a roaming profile will get access denied on the copy. I can fix this for each PC by inheriting the permissions from above. However, how do I fix this on a global scale and prevent it from happening? Thanks, Jim -- Jim Haynie Wakefield Public Schools

To modify Local Group membership via command-line, for multiple machines is "dsmod" the tool of choice, or is there something better (e.g. GPO, etc) ? Thanks in advance.

MS has updated its Intellipoint drivers from v6.1 to v6.2 for Vista x64. http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/Download.mspx I have not found the changelog so I cannot say what they fixed, added, spoiled with this new release. :) Direct download link for the English (US) version: http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/0/b/70b4d86f-08b5-45fc-ae16-5a3470f1b008/IP64Eng6.20.182.0.exe Carlos
