Is there a way to find out if there are any 16-bit drivers on your computer? All of my programs are two years old or less. The only exception is Works 2002. Thanks; David

I have an HP Officejet 7310 on Vista Business. After installing the latest software from HP everything works fine. After a few days, the printer disappears both from the printers list and from Imaging devices in the devices section and so, it cannot be managed any longer by its software utilities. I believe that this gets worse if I suspend/resume my laptop instead of shutdown.

Hi all hoping someone can help, the problem I've got is when switching from one user to another the new on won't load properly, it goes as far as loading the desktop but freezes when loading the task bar. Was working okay till recently , if I remove my daughters user will the files be saved anywhere ? so that I can get them back if I create her user again, also is it worth having multiple users ? got 4 kids all wanting their own accounts but will this slow the computer down ? not worried about the security side as I have programs to monitor them...sorry its long winded but thanx for any help.........

Hello I have only initialized the TPM from Windows since I like to backup the TPM owner information to Active Directory. However 1) Is it possible to initialize the TPM from the computers BIOS? 2) Is it possible to backup the TPM owner information to Active Directory after the TPM has been initialized? Thanks! /Ragnar

Wesley, I was directed to search this newsgroup for IP/RPC search by Steve Winograd from the Networking newsgroup. What I found here from you was the exact fix I needed for my issue of the ipconfig/renew error message I was getting: RPC server unavailable. I t5hink it was this hint that worked; Do the same for DHCP Client. This was the only one of the three jhints you highlighted here that was set to manual. After setting it to auto and starting it that the cable modem started up. Thank you so very much for your help. I had this problem, and I tried the "remove this KB and that KB" approach with no luck. So I downloaded the full "Update Rollup 2" installer (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e5daf37e-e243-4410-bc51-81cf2b56fe6e) and gave that a go. It failed, too. BUT... I was then able to go through the "MCSetup.log" file it created, and I discovered that it was actually the KB895572 package which was spitting out the 0x643 error code. And when I looked at the "KB895572.log", I found the reason - which makes absolutely no sense, of course: KB895572 is an update for Window Media Player 10, and if you attempt to install it silently onto a syste…

Is there an event that is logged to identify a switch to battery power? I have enabled "kernal-power" but can't find a specific event that identifies this. I would like to shut down a NAS by using this event to trigger a scheduled task. the software that comes w/ my UPS doesn't have this capability. Any help is appreciated - thank you

I cannot find a reference to this anywhere, but hopefully someone else has a clue as to where to start looking. Standalone CA running on 2k3 Ent. Clicking on "install this CA certificate chain" as a local admin of the box works just fine (you get the "this site may not be trusted" but that is all). If you are anything lower than a local admin, you get an Error! popup box with no details at all in it, just a yes or no button. Clicking yes installs the cert just as it should, no doesn't. Nothing in the event logs anywhere. Anyone else seen this and know what is happening, or can point me in the direction to start looking? thanks, erik

I've been trying to get rid of the 9.41 drivers as the mouse is acting weird and it looks like a driver problem - the only REAL problem is once I uninstall and reboot, the mouse and keyboard are gone. I can put a USB (the K/B and mouse are PS/2) on it and at least get THAT working, but there is - suddenly - a conflict (exclamation point) on the keyboard is an error 9 registry corrupted. The ONLY thing that repairs it - is an image replacement - am trying just a registry files restore now. Any ideas would be GREATLY welcome.

I have been using a new Vista business 64-bit desktop for a month or so. I use Remote Desktop all the time, mostly to Windows XP x32, 2003 Server x32, and 2000 Server x32 machines without a hitch. However, we just installed a new server with Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 (these are all on the same domain, in the same rack, by the way) ... when I remote desktop to that server from the Vista 64 desktop, remote desktop performance is abysmal -- so SLOW it is unusable. I couldn't find anything on the MS site regarding this issue, but the following link: http://www.vistax64.com/vista-networking-sharing/79317-fixed-remote-desktop-connection-rdc-slow-no-connecti…
