I want to put (resp. wrap) a directory into a CD image. The compressability of the directory files is high and I want to compress all the stuff as much as possible. Which format should I choose: IMG or ISO ? Are there tools which allow a higher compression (without creating a *.zip or *.rar or *.7z archive) ? Frank

Hi, My nice stable Windows XP setup has thrown a wobbly for the last couple of weeks and I haven't been able to find out why. I am connected to the internet via an adsl router - as are two other computers running XP. This computer has started to disconnect from the network connection every few hours for no apparent reason. The other computers don't do this - which means no router or internet problem. All three computers are running IE7. With this computer, if I haven't connected recently, when I try and open a web page, IE tells me that I am not on line and I have to click the Connect button for it to do so. My email client does likewise. I haven't know…

After using HP desktop w/out problem for 2 years, started having problem with monitor blacking out when computer went to sleep mode. Would not come back on when rebooted or restarted. Had to click monitor on and off to see screen, click on help utilities to restore to prior settings. Then monitor comes on. Heard it could be software problem but can't find it. Virus scan comes up negative. Hardware scan comes up negative. Can you help me figure out how to identify the problem? Thanks!

Hi, I've got a Canon LBP5200 laser printer. Since getting a new PC with Vista Home loaded I've had problems with the printer. Got the correct driver from Canon installed and the printer works but takes forever to spool & start printing. Checked with Canon support and all the printer configuration settings are as they recommend - they couldn't recreate the problem but suggested a firewall might be the cause. If I switch off Windows Firewall it works like lightning. I've tried adding the Cannon LBP5200 RPC server process to the exceptions list and this helps with some applications, but unfortunately there's still a problem printing from Office (Word…

The Clear Type setting on my computer keeps reverting back to default (not checked) each time I log off or the computer is rebooted. Is there something else I need to do make the system retain the setting?

Hello, I am working remote desktop to a terminal server (2003) on an internal network. Then I stop the session (I push the X in the upper screen). Later I want to start the same session again (it is still there in "Terminal Services Manager" on the server), I logon and get a new session. I use the same name and password. Is there a way to get the same session again ? Sometimes it works, but also sometimes not. Thanks, Marty

Copying files is the Achilles' heel of Windows Vista, "calculating time remaining." the blue screen of death equivalent. If anyone tells you Windows Vista isn't slow at copying files across the network, then they obviously haven't downloaded any DVDrips and tried to move it onto another computer. Local file copying has already been improved in the performance & reliability updates. It was anticipated Windows Vista Service Pack 1 would fix the network problem amongst other things. Article: After several months of silence, Microsoft last month finally revealed some concrete information about Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), which I translated into my Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Revealed showcase. If you haven't read that article, please do so now: This preview, which is based off of more recent beta code and an in-depth discussion with various people working on SP1 at Microsoft, builds off of that article, but provides more information and detail. Windows Vista SP1, finally, is a known quantity. Read the rest here>>>>> http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_sp1_inside.asp

When I ran iTunes diagnostic of my new 80G iPod, I got a red status for iPod connection. The iPod is working fine, but I noticed when I opened my computer (under XP Pro S2) that the iPod does not show up as a removable drive as my old iPod does. Any suggestions how to solve this would be appreciated. Silverback

When I open my video files in Cyberlink's Power Producer5 I get a message for each video file "Windows Host Porcess (Rundll32) has stopped working. Windows then offers a solution saying the problem was caused by a HP update and directs me to that site. When I run the download file (solution) it comes up with a message to say my computer's system is not compatible with the file even though it says it is a Vista fix. I am running a laptop with VistaHome Premium installed. Any suggestions? -- Thanks, MLC

Hello everyone, I'm seeking for a solution of unusual problem with Vista Ultimate 32. Storyline: Few days ago resinstalled my dual setup (Vista+XP) due to a necessity to re-mount my RAID0 setup. Vista installed well, + all updates including the optional ones. Problems started when I decided to update Intel's Chipset (INF 8.3.0.1013), which I downloaded from ASUS. As expected, during the install the keyboard and mouse got offline (I have a blue-tooth Logitech). Solution: attached a USB mouse, finished installation. Afterwards miracles started. 1. During normal startup: at the logon point (Welcome text with a circle) Vista hangs for 5 minutes (ju…

I have a HTPC (Shuttle SG33G5) running Vista Ultimate 32 Bit and JR Media Center 12 connected to a Yami V2700 using HDMI for sound and vision (and on to a Hitachi Plasma). All patched and up to date The problem is Vista Crashes & Reboots (or the JR MC app hangs) if I switch my AV Receiver from the HTPC to another source and back again if I am playing any content using DirectShow Filters. Typically the Vista Crash & Reboot is when I switch away and back while a DVB-T Channel is playing. Typically the JR MC hangs when playing a Video (eg when switching back to the HTPC you hear a Vista beep and the screen is displaying "MC12 has stopped respondin…

Hi, I uninstalled Office 2003, all the files related to Office 2007. I installed Office 2007. 12 updates were to be installed, I accepted them and they are installed on my laptop. What can I do or maybe is it normal? I got Microsoft Office Diagnostic run and I'm told that 2 versions of Office are on my laptop which is not true. I checked with Windows Install Clean Up and in the Add/Remove progr…
