Cannot run executables on servers! Please help.

Ok, I've seen this all over usenet with no real answer but here's my problem with all that I can find on it. Got 3 servers (DC, Exchange, App Server) all running Windows2k3 Standard. I have about 50 systems running WinXP SP2. Just last week I went to install the client for an application when the client executable file came up with the generic executable icon (the blue/white one) and when I tried to run the application it popped back the error, "only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed". Troubleshooting done so far: 1. tested on various machines- approximately 10. Through network mapped drives the error occurs 2. tested via…

It's really hard to be a monopolist these days. That's what Microsoft found when Monday the European Union slapped down its appeal to an antitrust decision made several years ago. Apparently there are a few places on earth where money can't buy Microsoft happiness. I'm glad that one of them happens to be an enormous market like Europe. According to a story on Vnunet.com: Microsoft is now facing a record 497 million Euros fine as well as having to pay 80 percent of the legal costs of the case. The software giant will also have to assist its rivals with third-party integration through documentation and support, and strip its media player software from a versio…

Setup Error
by Guest JANapoli135@comcast.net- 0 replies
- 109 views
An unexplained error has suddenly occurred. When in Windows I receive a caution notice in a Setup dialog box. "This MSI must be launched through setup." The only option is "OK". When I click ok, it clears but comes right back. I have no idea what caused this or how to resolve it. I also recently see a dialog box: "Please wait while Windows configures ccCommon". This is new as well and I have no idea how to resolve it either. I received this when I was trying to open a .pps file and also when I was opening Outlook. The only change to my system in recent days has been an upgrade to WMP11. Prior to that all appeared to be working fine. I do not know if any…

Customized Logon Screen

In Windows 2000 there is a registry key called LogonPrompt (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon\LogonPrompt) where a message text is displayed in the logon window. Same key under Vista is not working as expected. (I don't want to use the GPO setting "Interactive logon: Message title for users attempting to log on") Any idea?

Driver Signing & Vista Updates
by Guest Frank- 0 replies

Certain Vista Updates seem to be 'sneaking' in KB's that are disabling the option to turn off driver integrity checking. Yet there are no warnings of this when receiving them. I'm just curious to know why the hell MS is attempting to force this on its users. The more this happens, it makes reinstalling XP64 and 600GB of software seem less of a task. Also, one other question Some Vista Updates are not installing, the updater shows a success and no reports are within the Event Viewer. When they complete, they just reappear in the updater to be installed again, and again, and again.... ? Could this be associated to my first question? - Loo…

Moving start menu item fails
by Guest ReMeE- 0 replies

I have a problem when moving an item within the startmenu from one map to another. It just won't move! I also tried to move/copy the item when draging with the right mouse button and clicking 'copy here' or 'move here' in the popup menu. I did a fresh installation (the problems don't occur) and after that I install all the updates from windows update (than the problems occur) so one of the updates seems to create this problem. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Error 0x80070005 at Windows Update!
by Guest WinTech- 0 replies

Don't know if it applies to other incidents since ACCESS_DENIED is a very generic error code, but we had the same problem on a XP Pro machine (Windows Update failed downloading with 0x80070005, exact same error messages in WindowsUpdate.log). In our case we found that the particular machine had an EFS encrypted CAT file in %WinDir%\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}. The CAT file belonged to a Cisco WLAN driver, but I guess this is secondary. Removing encryption with the CAT file fixed the problem. Windows update now downloads and installs updates as usual.
