I'm having issues with XP and Vista seeing each other on my network. Sometimes one system can see the other, but usually they cannot. Even when they can see each other, once they were able to transfer files but since then (without changing settings) the access is denied. I tried the suggestions offered here: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.mspx?pg=3&lang=en&cr=US&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.networking_sharing&fltr= but am not having any luck. In the past, I had two systems on my network: XP (SP 2) and Windows 98 (SE) and they were fine for sharing stuff. Having removed …

Hi there, I just recently purchased a Microsoft Wireless Entertainment 700 package that includes a 7000 seris Bluetooth Wireless keyboard and an 8000 series Bluetooth Laser Mouse. I have installed it without a hitch, however I have noticed some peculiar things that have been happening with my PC ever since I installed the software and drivers. If I start Media Center or try to load even a 3d screensaver, my machine is brought to it's knees. If I unplug the Bluetooth tranceiver, everything is fine once again. There was an update fix for the bluetooth driver which I did install and am still having these weird issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated. PC s…

I have one Vista station and some XP ones. I want to use SETX to set some variables, and it works fine in Vista. I installed the latest support tools from Msoft on an XP station to use SETX there, but no luck. Specifically, if I open a CMD window on the XP station and type SETX test "just a test"<Enter> the cursor moves to the following line without a prompt as if HUNG. After 10 minutes, I closed the CMD window. Checking the event viewer, I see nothing. Disabling Symantec AV makes no difference. Hmmmmm Any ideas? Is there a service that might be stopped that I need to check? Matt

Am having problems with pc that rolls back installation of any program at about the time it completes normally. Has anyone else experienced this and what can you do about it? -- belair919 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ belair919's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=31730 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=828021 http://forums.techarena.in

My problem is that the idle disconnect feature does not work for me under Vista Premium. I get traffic every so often from the internet, and that seems to reset the timeout. If I go into the "network connections folder" -> "properties" on my modem connection -> "options tab" ... I can see a box labeled "idle threshold" but it is greyed out. Ideally I would like to find a idle timeout that is after the firewall has processed the traffic, so that external traffic that is blocked would not be counted. or I would like to know what I need to do to un-grey that box and then be able to set the threshold higher. Ideas please. Other Information:…

In case you missed it, please take a look at my earlier post entitled, "Problem Opening Folder - No Luck Yet". I responded in a thread from yesterday. Several good suggestions have been made, but so far, no solution, and I only have the computer for the day. My daughter just confessed to messing around with the computer when the problem started, but she cannot remember what she did, of course. Any help provided is sincerely appreciated!!

I too can't get by password in safe mode. I have a simple work around. Go to users in the control panel and remove the password. Now you can get into safe mode to do what you want. When done go back to users and recreate the password(same one if you wish). -- Grampy Pete "Linda" wrote: > While I was switching users everything that I had entered reguarding my > Administrater account was either mixed up or lost. We have a standard windows 2003 (SP1) server with exchange 2003 (SP2) installed. It is running some software called Neverfail which basically replicated this server to another one thus providing fault tollarance. We have received an error in the system log which i have never seen before and searching the internet hasn't brought up anything. Is this something I should be worried about?

Hi Here's what I'm trying to do: Create a scheduled task that will be installed via group policy as a computer startup script, that will run at a certain time a day and interact with the currently logged on user. The task creation and such works fine, but I'm stuck in that the task runs with local SYSTEM privileges and thus the user never sees the interface (actually, an HTA html application pop up). I've tried messing around with /U and /RU switches with "schtasks / create" to no avail. If I specify the user, then it prompts for that user's password - and the problem with that anyway is that if User A puts in their password, but User B happens to be th…

I'm using a custom power profile (though this issue occurs regardless of what power plan I have selected), I have my notebook set to sleep after 10 minutes when on battery and 30 minutes when plugged in. It never goes to sleep when idling any more. I know about the media sharing issue and I've changed both of those settings to allow sleep when sharing media. This issue does seem to coincide with when I hooked up a media extender (XBox 360) to my home network. I don't know if they're causally related. Hooking that up created an "away mode" that I'm not using either. Yesterday when I was running on batteries, I forgot about the computer and it just kept …

As Windows has always not taken long to become slow and messy in the background, I have to keep rebuilding my machine to keep it usable. I eventually created a restore image using the symantec deploycenter so I could press F10 and boot straight into a rebuild process to restore the Xp pro build. Having done all this it tested ok, but when I tried moving the restore image files (rebuild.pqi, 001, 002, 003, ect) I now keep getting "Access denied, file is in use" whilst either renaming, re-associating, moving or deleting these files. Symantec have nothing on the App to support me and Microsoft website does not find anything related to the app or the problem (Unless …

It was not what a prospective buyer normally says--unless of course you're aiming to drive down the sales price.
