I have XP of course, and my User account shows "my realname" as one account as administrator and a "guest" account. When I open up Windows Explorer it shows most of my files being saved under "user." In the file tree under Documents and Settings it shows accounts for "Administrator" "All Users" "Default user" and "user" It doesn't show my "my realname" account. (i.e. johndoe) Anyway it seems that no matter if I am logged on "my realname" there are for instance, in Rules and Alerts of Outlook, a message that comes at times that I am not allowed to set those types of rules because of my permissions? Why? It says I'm administrator in the User Account area? Also,…

This seems to be a common problem but I haven't found a solution after I googled, browsed thru ms support pages, newsgroups and forums. 4 out of 5 times I encounter this error. Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) says synchronizing but it never completes and the the status bar is 1/10th full for like 2 hours! When I check the sync results I get 3-5 server busy error messages. No error codes or numbers. I either lose patience and disconnect or WMDC just cuts the connection by itself. This is really bugging me because I just upgraded to Vista and sync with my device is so critical. Please help. Thanks PC and Device info: PC OS: Windows Vista for Bus…

Hi, after a recent round of WSUS updates, users are reporting that their CD/DVD drives won't show the contents of data CD's made with apps like Nero. If I create a CD using windows drag and drop it can see the files fine on the burnt CD. If iuse a proper commercial CD, like Office, it can read that too. Just homemade Data CD's do not display any content and show as being empty, despite using some of the CD space. I've been through the KB, tried various ASPI, UDF readers etc but to no avail, changed the DMA settings etc. Anyone got any ideas as to how I can get back to being able to view previously made CD-ROMs... Regards Jonathan

In windows vista (Home Premium) I cannot "pin icons" to the start menu. I go through the process but there are no progams there when I click on start. I am also not able to unlock the task bar either - not sure if the two are connected. I can create short cuts on the desk top without any problems. Its a new computer and I have full adminstrator rights. Any ideas anyone?

Unable to play videos in web pages. When I go to Tools, Internet Options, Multimedia there is not a check box to tick (or the actual heading) to Play Videos in Web Pages. I have contacted HP Help by email, and have done all they suggested to resolve the problem. They now recommend System restore. Instead of doing System restore, If I UPGRADED from Windows XP to Vista would it be likely that I would still have the same problem?

Since having problems getting rid of my emails from the deleted folder of Windows Mail in Vista Business, I was told to download the new Microsoft Live Mail Beta. I cannot download this (or any other ms exe file) on my machine or my vista home laptop, although they download fine on my xp pro machines. The error doesn't help as it's a page not found that I get. Once I have downloaded the file on another machine, I have transferred it to my vista machine and tried to run it - this fails too. I have run the same file on my xp pro machine and installed the new microsoft live mail beta fine. I don't have any problems with downloading any other exe from…

After a recent clean install of Win XP home, I am trying to set a password for the screen saver. I get the option of "on resume, password protect", but when the screen saver activates, a mouse-move will bring the desktop back - without a password or log-on prompt. There is only 1 user, and I use a password to logon. The windows key & L works to lock the system, but the screen saver won't. What am I doing wrong? I apologize in advance if I missed the answer in hunting thru the other posts. Thanks, Richard.
