Schedule task “Wake computer†won’t stay awake…

Schedule task “Wake computer†won’t stay awake… Since our friends at Microsoft decided to remove a functional backup solution from the workstation OS, I’m forced to use robocopy as a file backup solution… I have my PC set to stand bye after 1 hour. I set my robocopy script as a scheduled task, and selected the option to “wake computer to run this task†When the task is scheduled to run, it wakes the PC, then, about 5 min later, it puts the PC back to sleep… Two problems, 1) the robocopy is not complete yet. Since I never had to use robocopy in the past (windows has had a decent backup solution installed for the past 7 years) I

This time the references are to 0x77605794 and memory at 0x8002801c. This occurs at startup. I cannot run several Microsoft Management Console functions such as System Restore, Device Manager, Services.MSC, Internet Explorer 7 favourite/history window. If I try to get the history or favourites IE closed. I have run Chkdsk, SFC /Scannow, SpyDoctor, Worm Checkers etc. Also I am short of Hard Drive Space. At one point my space was disappearing faster than I could delete files and clear the recycle bin. Then when th esystem seemed to be 'normal' disk space was 9Gb out of 19Gb. After the next boot it was back at less than 1Gb. I have run System Restore…

Web Services and Scheduled Tasks

Hello. I am attempting to use a Web Service to create scheduled tasks. This works locally, on a workstation running XP, but when I move the web service, or a standalone application to a W2003 server, and attempt to create Scheduled Tasks, nothing happens. I have been researching. I ran across a reference to Action Control Lists and Web Services, dealing with the Microsoft Commerce Service. Specifically, granting full control with the cacls command. cacls tasks /e /g <data_domain_name>\MarketingWebSvc:f, Also, looking on some MSDN pages, it appears that the Web Services are by default created with least privilges, so as to avoid exploitation.

So I am trying to manage my system and a wireless router using a remote desktop connection only to find that when I try to connect to any wireless network Remote Desktop immediately forgets what interface it was started on and refuses to accept new remote desktop requests until the wireless host it was connecting to forcefully disconnects it (via unplugging, or other means). Why does Remote Desktop forget what interface it is on and immediately bind to the WLAN interface? I have configured windows to give preference to LAN connections over WLAN connections (Network Connections -> Advanced Settings), and there is no indication that the original LAN conn…

Screen Zooms in with External Monitor on Laptop

With Windows XP home: My laptop is powered up and I connect an external monitor and press F8 (CRT/LCD) to get the video displayed on the monitor. Open up Word or Excel and the screen zooms to a huge % number so that arial 10 font fills the screen. Similarly when Mozilla Firefox is started, the display shrinks to nearly nothing at all. The same happens on the laptop screen when I disconnect the external monitor. I have to log off and back on again to get the displays working properly again. Any ideas ?? Ian S

Can see additional network

In my DHCP I have an additional route added to everyone who get an IP address handed out by the DHCP. Everyone is able to see the network segement they are on along with the new sgement that I added via the route using DHCP. I should say everyone EXCEPT any Vista users on our network. Does anyone know if I have to do something special on the Vista PCs to get them to communication with this new network segement. By the way when I do a Route Print I can see that the addition route was added to all the Vista PCs just when I ping I get no response back from anything on that segement. Steve

screen saver

The screen saver time out in the registry if changed doesn't take effect until the person log's off and back on again. I know this is normal by design. I would like to know if anyone has been able to find a workaround from having to log-off and back on to the change stick. For instance I open regedit and manually edit the key HKCU\control panel\desktop key and edit the screensavetimeout setting to from 1 minute to 2 minutes and exit regedit. The screen saver will still engage at 1 minute mark. If I then use the desktop properties tool it still shows 1 minute. If I just exit the desktop tool the tool resets the registry key back to 1 minute. But, If I…

[SOLUTION] shaderapidx9.dll related crashes on Vista
by Guest brinkk- 0 replies

I've seen plenty of posts around here asking for help with games crashing on Windows Vista and shaderapidx9.dll being cited as the cause. I had the same problems myself, and none of the fixes i found worked (Steam's FAQ page, the resolution tricks, etc). So I went around and googled. The problem has to do with a WMI problem in Vista. It seems to be caused after installing certain versions of AIM and other IM programs from what I've seen. This happened to me after I installed the newest "classic" version of AIM. It seems that valve knows the problem has to do with WMI, but looking at their support page for it, they dont have the solution. Anyway, I c…

print job with long path name fails
by Guest Mark Warbeck- 0 replies

Hi all, I have a Windows 2003 Active Directory domain. When people print a PDF from a web browser, the path to the file as seen in the print queue is quite long (C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temporary internet files\<random_folder_name\file.pdf). These jobs stick in the queue and the status says "printing-printing error". The printer (print device in MS jargon) shows no activity, no data light). Usually someone else tries to print and jobs back up. If I cancel the offending job, all the others print. The printer is connected to the server via LPR ports and a 10BaseT network. It happens on a number of printers, most recently an HP…

I can log onto the internet fine at home with my own wireless network but there are some public places(coffee shops) that I am unable to connect with. The symbol at the bottom shows a local connection but no internet connection. These are places that I have previously been able to get onto the internet fine with the same computer and running vista. Has anyone encountered this problem? I'm not understanding why I'm getting the local connection but no internet connection the wireless networks do show up and seem to connect fine. Is this how Solution Center should work or i found a bug?
by Guest Bistey Csaba- 0 replies

Hello Everybody! Not sure if this is a good place to report bugs (tried to search connect.microsoft.com for Vista feedback without success). So the problem happens when an executable fails to load (for eg. because of missing dll) or freeze and has specific name like a.exe or b.exe Vista starts looking for solution and telling me "Microsoft detected the (depends on filename) Virus on your Computer". I think it is a bug, as in normal case these systems signature based, and not just working with filenames as a.exe can be a totally normal application (which freeze or fail to load). Here is a short movie, when i try to compile a c program which only add …
