Hi can some one help me in debugging the follwing script. I'm a new Vista user and I'm trying to get used to it. I fear I might have hosed something. I must have installed something bad and was getting BSODs early in the boot process. I had to do a system restore to yesterday and the BSODs appear to be gone. I thought (not 100% sure) that previously when I was running as a standard user, then when I went into regedit, I got a couple of UAC popups and I was able to edit the registry (say the HKLM/Run key). Now, as a standard user, I open regedit, it just opens up immediately and I'm unable to edit keys in HKLM. I *think* I may have answers to your questions: Q1: Why the names of some of the fonts in MS-Word and other apps begin with "@" but the Fonts folder in \Windows has no file with the same name? A1: I guess the "@***" fonts show up because they're encoded differently than the "***" fonts. Q2: Why some fonts cannot be deleted from the \Windows folder, although they don't seem to be particularly essential to Windows (e.g. batang, dotum, gulim,...)? A2: "\Windows" you say? Or you mean "\Windows\Fonts"? Maybe they cannot be deleted because they are Read-Only or Vista denies access to the "\Windows" folder. I don't know exactly. Q3: If …

Why can't I have the "Place Volume Icon in the Taskbar" checkbox stay checked from within the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box? Each time I boot, I have to open that dialog, check the box again, click Apply, click OK, then go on with my Windows session. Is there a way to make that setting permanent? When I create a shortcut to my desktop of a url the default url icon Vista uses seems corrupt ie it should just be an internet explorer shortcut on my desktop. I can change the icon to another icon found in this file:%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll but the default ie shortcut url is corrupt. All I want is for the shortcut to look like the default url/internet explorer shortcut icon ie XP. It appears that this setting is in the registry. Somehow something changed with my Win2000 with SP4 where I can no longer set hard drive folders as web content. That option is grayed out and cannot be set. If I click on set default a folder changes somewhat but if I get out and go back to that folder its back to classic mode. Also for the taskbar, before I could right click anywhere on it and get to task monitor or to make changes for toolbar. Now I can only get this popup is to right click far right where time is, I can now click for task manager but toolbar functions are grayed out. What got changed and how to fix it. Thanks

Can't run DVD, can't do ROM burning (with exceptions), horrendously slow for internet use, etc. I use castoff computers in the 500MHz range, but the 350MHz I have in the basement (IBM) would be consigned to be an MP3 player jukebox and maybe for a photo archive (duplicate set). If your community garbage haulers have a day for spring cleaning where they don't charge for disposal of tires and junk computers, you could trade up to a 1GHz or better.
