by Guest John- 0 replies

Is there a fix for this problem? This is happening on XPSP2, Intel 82865G video chipset. This started happening after I installed the latest Google Earth. Only this screensaver is running sideways. Everything else is upright. The screensaver works correctly when I'm in the screensaver tab with little monitor showing the 3D Flying Objects with Windows Logo, this also happen when I choose Texture Flag as the object style. Thanks

by Guest Philippe - Swiss- 0 replies

Hello, When I attempt to boot up my PC with its Recovery-CD, my TFT Monitor will display a complete "blurred" (unrea- dable) screen with even the mouse cursor being displayed ....twice; ie. two arrows "side by side"! But needless to state, that no problem at all in this regard when the PC is being booted up "the normal way". So any valuable tip would be now highly appreciated... With best regards, Philippe

On shutdown: Connections Tray/Explorer fail to end...
by Guest fjpoblam- 0 replies

This began with latest XP maintenance. The laptop is an old IBM A31 Thinkpad 512M XP/SP2, AVG, Spybot, Adaware protected, plus Windows firewall...running DSL through covad via modem through Linksys router... On shutdown, now, we consistently get popups for Connections Tray and Explorer not responding and must End Program to proceed with shutdown. I've Googled alternatives: trimmed startup list to the bare minimum (per some suggestions), run extra virus/anti-spyware scans (including other products) per other suggestions...no luck. My last-ditch was to regedit and cut the times for killing apps at shutdown...but this isn't really a solution, just a convenien…

Vista problems with new server
by Guest Chuck_N- 0 replies

I am trying to build a new 2003 Server - Enterprise Edition server. I would like ot access the new server from my Vista Ultimate workstation. When I try to access the server from my workstation, access takes forever - but no errors show up on either computer. For some reason I have no problem accessing any other computer in the office, or accessing the new server from any other computer in the office. My workstation is the only Vista workstation. The problem seemed to show up after I updated the 2003 Server to SP2. I have no problem accessing our other 2003 Server or any other computers. Has something happened recently in security that would be …

COM port not behaving...
by Guest Erik- 0 replies

Hi all. (I had posted this message in the Hardware group earlier; but I see more activity here so I hope it's OK to put it here too, to increase my chances of finding a solution.) I seem to have a stubborn serial port. I just got a new motherboard, with one onboard serial port, and also have a PCI expansion card with two serial ports. After I installed the drivers for the expansion card I got an error message regarding COM1 (the onboard port). I blamed it on a silly driver conflict, forgot to write the exact error message down, rebooted the PC, and everything was fine. Or so I thought... Yesterday, when I started one of my programs that use all 3 COM …

Hi, bottomline: In Vista how do I turn off my external speakers when my headset is on? I listen to video casts on my vanpool ride into work and they are getting annoyed that I cannot turn off my external speakers in Vista. I listen with my headset and in XP this autmagically turns off my external speakers. With Vista both external speakers and headset speakers fire! How do I turn off my external speakers when I have my headset on in Vista? Thanks in Advance! Jim

Permon questions

I have setup Perfmon counter logging started the log with a max size of 100MB and with logging every 15 seconds I've been testing the log - and when I stop it even after 5 mins or 2 hours it is always the same size 128Kb, and it always says 'duration 1:40' and most importantly how do you know the time the server had an issue (if you see a counter peaking) as I can't see any time\date reference in the log when I replay is ?

Lanuage bar

Every once in a while (especially when I suspend/resume my laptop), the language bar disappears. I have to enter control panel, change options back and forth and then apply again in order to find the language bar and be able to change languahe. Alt+Shift doesn't work either when the bar is gone so I can't avoid this procedure. I believeit has to do with suspend.
