For solving a problem regarding (i.e., replacing) a corrupted profile (e.g., see http://groups.google.ca/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support/browse_thread/thread/11fe45bb7d8259a6?hl=en ....) it has been suggested I transfer to a new profile (i.e., see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/en-us ...) One problem I see with this approach is maintaining ownership of many of my files that would be located in a directory, other than "my documents" ... e.g., 'c:\share\dir_name\'. For the last few year or so I've been noticing a lot of folders being created on my hard disk automatically by the system. The folders have a very long name such as "17c362e648ec4aa3e30187024666a5c3" and under that folder there is another folder called "update". Inside "update folder", there is a file called "update". The update file looks like an executable file. The file description says things like: "Windows Service Pack Setup Microsoft Corporation File Version: 6.2.29.0 Size: 699 KB" Some I can delete, some I can't. I want them all gone... or autosaved to another location in the future. PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!

Bonjour a tous. je viens de formater ma clé USB. et juste apres le formatage, je vois déja l'existance d'un fichier de type application dont le nom est Ahmed application (schant que ma clé s'appelleahmed) l'icone de cette application est comme l'icone d'un dossier. mais quand je double clique rien ne se passe, et si je supprime le fichier il se recrée de nouveau. s'agit il d'un virus par hasard ? I posted this on the SSB group, but I thought I'd try here also. I've read a few how-to docs on installing Remote Installation Service (RIS) on Windows Server 2003; they all seem to say go to Add/Remove Programs> Windows Components and select "Remote Installation Service". I looked on my server, however, and the option isn't listed there at all. I'm sure the server is Windows Server 2003 SP1, is there any reason why the feature would be absent?

Good day.. and don't we just love this error. I am getting this error when attempting to run an app that requres .net 2.0. I have tried the following: Removed and reinstalled .net 2.0, checked the rights of the local users, and checked the os compatibility of the executable, which was blank. Oh, and also deleted mscoree.dll from C:\windows... None of these fixes work. Does anyone have another option that has worked for them in the past? Thanks.. Christopher.

This problem only seems to be when i'm in the remote session window.. i have no other problems with other servers on my network.. The task manager shows very little cpu utilization, very low network utilization.. This is an almost bare installation too. Basically.. if i click with the mouse.. it will sortof "pause" for about 5-10 seconds before moving on.. if i press a key on the keyboard it forces things along. I dont see this behavior when logged in directly.. Anyone ever run into this? Thanks

Question: I want a printer deployed with my GPO, set this up and added the per user, and added, said was successful. I also used the pushprinterconnections.exe in the start up script. I am not seeing the printer when I log in as the user. Have I missed something? -- Thanks,, Kim

I have taken some backup using NTBackup utility that consumes 4 tapes and checked the media lable was found for the backup job. After 15 days (yesterday) I wanted to restore some files from the backup and checked the media lable was not found. I thought somebody could have deleted the media lable. I inserted the first tape into the tape drive and added the media to the existing catalog. After that it shows the media as "offline". We have a customer with Vista Home Premium on an HP laptop that cannot get the Security Center service to start. When going into services.msc and going to the properties of the service and it says: Configuration Manager: The Specified device instance handle does not correspond to a present device. Click ok on that box and it allows you to go to the properties but if you try to start it it says: Windows could not start the Security Center service on Local Computer. However, now i am getting the message (The update does not apply to your system). I have downloaded the x64 versions (as im on ultimate x64) and have not got them installed, ive checked. Hi All, Not sure if this is a DNS / DFS Question, I imagine its more of an IIS Question. Anyway, I have DFS running on our network. SBS2003 R1 PDC, and Server 2003 R2 File Servers hosting Namespaces etc. All working fine. The namespaces are as follows \\domain.local\companydocs \\domain.local\finance etc. However, when a user goes to the top level of the domain tree (\\domain.local), all they get is the SBS2003 Shared Folders and can't get back to the DFS tree. So, i've developed a web page to help users navigate to the correct parts of the DFS tree / file servers. Question: How can I make this web page appear when the user tries to go to …
