Hi, I have one printer shared from Windows 2003 server. I would like to restrict certain users from being able to go in change the printing preferences to print in color. I have the everyone group in the security tab of the printer and it has only print checked off not manage documents or manage printers. When logging in as a user i can modify the printing preferences to whatever I want. I thought this would be greyed for users unless they had rights above just print. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

I have excluded some programs by putting them in the exclude list. When I remove them with remove button & apply settings they all re-appear when I close then re-enter. How do I remove items from the exclude list? This happens even if I hit apply & re-boot. I also tried to remove them in safe mode, they all just reappear upon close & re-open

I see 70+ pages of Gadgets, and before I go hunting wonder if anyone has encountered one that provides calendar-based event entry, then generates alarms at prescribed times. Is there such a thing? Thanks, Silvy

I had just resotred my registry form one in Spetember (due to unrelated problems) and when I tryed the update again, it INSTALLED! I have NO idea why??!!! I hope this helps someone out there to figure out this problem. Everyone seems to have it. Good Luck, all.

I've seen this with XP before but now I'm seeing it in Vista and I have yet to find a solution. When I play audio or video in media player and close out the window without hitting the stop button first the sound continues to play. If I look in task manager media player is not running. The only way for me to stop the sound at this point is to open another audio/video file in media player and hit the stop button before closing out the window. If I reboot the problem will go away for a few days but eventually comes back. I have all the latest drivers so I'm not sure what else to try.

Accidentally deleted from adds-remove a program that when deleted changed the computers icons, fonts, and windows display size. Displays are much smaller and need to be adjusted to larger settings (other than NORMAL setting) with only marginal success. Re-installed ATI driver but no change. Display is Dell E771a monitor on 16MB ATI Rage Ultra. System is Windows XP Home SP1, version 2002.

I've started noticing I can no longer explore my CD Drive from Windows Explorer. When I double click on the CD Drive nothing happens. When I right click on the CD Drive and choose Explore nothing happens. I'm still able to access the drive and it's content from the command prompt, and when I login as another user I can explore the drive from Windows Explorer. Only thing I can remember doing recently was cleaning up my startup programs but when I compare my startup programs with other users they are basically the same. jhavero@gmail.com

A few days ago I played a couple of MP3s that have been sitting on my hard drive for a long time--files I know are of pretty good quality. They sounded like absolute crap. Skipping, clicking noises every couple of seconds...just unbearable. I had backups on CDs, so I did a comparison using WinDiff--they turned out to be identical, so I figured there was no point in re-copying them over to my hard drive. I played the backups--they also sounded like crap, which was puzzling, because I *know* I've played them all before and they all sounded fine. For the hell of it just tried playing them again today (the files on my hard drive, that is)...it's been a couple o…

I am trying to help a young friend get his Dell laptop with XP Home into good order. At his home, he would be on a wireless network. My network is wired, but I am working on non network issues. I keep getting the popup that tells me that there is no connection to the network. I know that. Is there a place to suppress this message from popping up every time I make a move? I tell it I want to work offline, but it keeps reminding me anyhow. Thanks, Charlie

Hi all, I have a few users who use dialup to access RRAS and we have call back originating number set up on their AD properties. The RRAS server is stand alone and uses Windows Accounting and Authentication, both of which are monitored, however I cannot see a way of viewing the numbers which we are calling back??
