Hi everyone I know this question has been asked before, but I have failed to find a solution. I would be very grateful to anyone who'd help me solve this! I have updated my system with all possible updates from Microsoft and I have also tried uninstalling my devices and have vista re-install them. Everything works fine in safe mode! The problem is as follows: All of a sudden Vista decided that no Mass Storage Drives, like my DVD-player AND any external USB hard drives will appear with a red circle in Explorer. When I try to expand the drives, I get absolutely no files. When I press "properties" and the "security tab", I am told "You don not have …

In word, excel and when inserting attachments into emails when I try to save or insert files the screen says that the function is not responding. With multiple clicks it will eventually let me move ahead to the next level and then at the next level it hangs-up again until I use multple clicks again. This generally uses up to 5 minutes of time depending how far down I go looking for a specific directory. Is there a solution to this problem?

Sooo I've read several posts on here about the KB9 situation and have followed several of the ideas here that others have found helpful (like uninstalling KB927978...which I don't have...and another which I can't remember off the top of my head....and then to install KB941833 which was also a bust because I got an error message). I am at my wits end. To add to my frustration, when I did one of the suggestive articles, it found that I needed to install Office XP Service Pack 3....I have VISTA and when I go to install this "update" it tells me that I need to insert the CD that the update is on....I need help please....I've tried everything and I cannot seem…

Following the Oct 13 Windows Automatic Updates, I can no longer access any data files or programs. I'm using a Dell XPS 1330 laptop with Vista Home Premium. I'm able to boot to Windows, I can "Search" for files and see a list but when I try to open a file I get the message ""can't open the file because it might have been deleted or is in a location that is not available." If I right click on a file to view its properties, It show the first directory below user\account, but the file name is garbled and file size is reported as zero. If I try to do a directory listing from the command prompt, it can not find any files, although the free disk space tha…

I've a LAN with 4 XP-Pro and a a Server 2003 SE SP2. They are in a workgroup, not a domain and the server is just a file server. All the PCs have a static IP address, C class, 192.168.1.x and a flag in the Wins menu "Use NetBios on TCP/IP". Since few days ago, all the PCs report in the event viewer: Event Type: Error Event Source: NetBT Event ID: 4307 Description: Initialization failed because the transport refused to open initial Addresses However, the LAN PCs works fine except a client that sometimes is not able to connect to the LAN e, sometimes freezes: no keybord, no mouse, no ctrl-alt-canc. Any idea to solve the problem? Thanks. -- ricc

Matt, Try this: Start>Run then type "mmc" with out the quotes. You will probably get a UAC prompt - give it permission. If you have never worked in the console you will have nothing but an empty screen for now. Go to File>Add/Remove Snap-In and select that. Find the snap in called Local Users and Groups and select it and then Add it to the box on the right. You should get a prompt to verify you want to use accounts on the local computer - choose local. Then once your in the console click on the Local Users and Groups and then select the Users folder. Find your username there and right click to select Properties. Put a check mark in …

This is pretty trivial, but I rely on the network tray icons activity to diagnose network issues...activity or not and when. For some reason, the internet icon is not showing activity when there is activity. It is a nuisance and shouldn't be happening. I rely on it to help diagnose internet connection issues such as connect drops. Any ideas how to get this activity fixed?? Thanx Henry
