Hello, i have a problem with my taskbar in Vista. When I start a remote connection from a XP Prof. Client to my Vista (Ultimate) PC, the connection works, but my taskbar disappears. I can only see (and use) the round Vista-Start-Button at the bottom of the screen. When I close the connection and log on locally the taskbar is still away. It only returns after a reboot or a complete logging of and on again. Is there a problem with my graphiccarddriver? I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT. Drivers are from Dec. 2006. I am unable to uninstall or repair any software installed using MS Installer. I now noticed that Windows\Installer is empty and many icons like PDF, PSP files have changed to icon usually assigned to unknown document types. Moreover software program icons have changed to DOS Exe files though clicking on them launches the program. I found that I was not alone with the above problem when trying to re-install the Volume Shadow Copy Service. There were many articles with instruction on how to re-install / repair it, however they all said essentially the same thing and I noticed that many people were having trouble getting swprv.dll to register during the process. Unfortunately, there was no working solution offered by anyone to this problem, other than to re-install windows. I WILL NOW DESCRIBE THE SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME!! I have an F3JP Asus notebook with an X1700 ATI mobility video card. Vista seems to have DX10 pre-installed but the card is a DX9 card if im not mistaken. Is Vista / DX10 automatically compatabile with DX9 or will I need to somehow download and install DX9 ? The reason I am asking is twofold, firstly : Notebook gpu seems to be overheating after about ten to twenty minutes of playing any 3d type game from WOW to Half Life 2 to the latest Unreal Tournament demo. Hi all, I'm working on a server system that uses NTP/w32tm to synchronize its clock. That part works fine for me. The problem is that I need to log, in my application, when a time-sync is done and the current offset. I also would like to log the wait time. My solution to that was to turn on the debug log and parse that file every time something new is added. I can then search for the strings a need to log in my application. This thing is that I can't parse the file in my application. When a open it in notepad it's ok. It seems to be in Unicode. But when a try to read it with fgetws/fgets and some Unicode conversion it will just be foobar. So my question. …

Thank you soo much! I have been searching for 3 hours for the hot keys to fix this. I know because I received the e-mail years ago with the hot key code but could not remember it. Got to hitting keys and switched my screen and couldn't remember how to get it back. Thanks. I would like to know if you need to have RRAS services installed and/ or a configured routing table on a multihomed Windows Server 2003 server. Is it possible to just use 2 or more network adapters on the server without the server having to be configured as a router? Any help or links to documents about this would be most appreciated.

After i install office on my vista, I find a program named IMSCMig.exe(Microsoft Pinyin IME Installer) runs each time system starts. But this program need run as admin user. What does this program do? Can i remove it form currentVersion\run(i need use Pinyin IME), and can i run it as admin user at startup time?

Ran Microsoft Update today, installed teh desktop search tool. Then started getting errors from Outlook Express that the store file was not opened, the disk was full. The clue was I'd done two Windows XP computers today and both had the same proble, The program was removed using the Control Panel/add-remove [you have to reboot to see the application for removal]. Operation returned to normal after removal. Suggest not installing the optional program. Follow-ups will go to microsoft.public.windowsupdate

We are looking to set up a few print servers with as many queues as possible - we expect light utilization of most of the printers (a few documents an hour maybe). According to what I've read in Microsoft's "Print Server Scalability and Sizing Technical Overview" document, having upwards of 1,500 (or even 2,000) queues on a server should not be a problem. I'm thinking about using a VMWare virtual server instance to perform this function, and I have not been able to locate much on the internet regarding the relationship between VMWare and high-utilization print servers. hello hibernation is not part of my vista power options, googled for "enable hibernation in vista" and all solutions i got said, i shd go to the command prompt as administrator and type "powercfg -h on" it will enable it, but it is not working for me, does anyone has any other method i can use to enable hibernation. thanx

Everytime I click on "Adjust Display Settings", it will take me the Media Center 2005 home page instead of letting me set anything. Also, TV signal (via S-Video) on MyTV gets squeezed into the letterbox size, so, the image is very thin. Can someone please help?

I had two computers running on Vista for 5 months and had many problems, every time something and not giving up, putting all my good time in it. But Vista is off the computers and peace is back in the shop. On one channel I have my OS running on a mirrored RAID 0 (2x 36GB) On the second channel I have a RAID 5 striped set (5x73 GB) that includes a hot spare. I've just added a new drive to my RAID 5 array and need to extend the primary partition. I do not want to use the new drive as an extended partition. hi, i keep getting this message all the time so I asked my computer to run chkdsk. It tells me I can't do it while the C drive is in use and that I have to schedule it for the next time I reboot. Ok, fair enough so I do this and chkdsk runs process 1/3 fine, process 2/3 gets to 22% complete and then windows kicks in and I get the same message again! Help!!??

I updated with windows updates, & uninstalled Google Desktop then restarted. I can log all the way in but nothing is on the desktop, I can use task manager & get into most things. I have tried the task bar fix from Kellys-Korner, nothing. I have looked & all of the profiles are there. It does tell me when I start up that something didn't start but I can not go to the event viewer to find out what it is. I'm useing windows 2003 server any ideas what happened, I even tried to look for a way to restore it but can not find anything like that to help. Thanks
